@JAG89 JSU is focused on increasing out of state enrollment. They know now Mississippi's declining population is no longer good enough to keep them afloat. They basically waived all out of state fees starting this past fall to increase out of state enrollment ... they recruit heavy in Texas and Georgia.
@JAGSC Facilities are part of recruitment. You think when students tour campus that doesn't play a factor in them attending LOL? NCAT has a large non-African American population largely due to the fact it offers unique programs not available at nearby public colleges. For example, NCAT is the only public engineering and architecture institution in the northern region of NC. But also NCAT campus is really nice so that can't be ignored.
@JAG89 BR is majority black but the economic power is all-white. BR doesn't have a powerful enough black community that can make things happen economically without pandering to white folks. White people won't invest heavily in North BR period. Why you think there's not even a hospital to serve the NBR community? And do you know of anything close to a thriving black business district in BR b/c I don't know of any. Even the Asians have one and they been in BR for a shorter period of time. Also it doesn't help most educated black folks in BR don't want anything to do with NBR outside of SU, they reside and send their kids to schools outside the area. TSU got lucky b/c we're near UH and Downtown/Midtown so enough powerful white people come our way for them be invested in helping us revitalize the community we reside in.
@jag4life I'm pretty sure that plan ain't going anywhere. I read about so many plans for YEARS about them revitalizing NBR that fall apart. The black leaders are going to have to think of something amazing and damn near perfect for the face of NBR to change which is highly unlikely so don't get yo hopes up. The best idea is for black leaders to form a strategic partnership with the leaders of BTR airport to get something going ... for people flying into BR, NBR is the first impression of the city so it's important it looks good right?
