Southern Football Notes pt2: 2007

Hey, I dont mind getting whooped on by some old lady. Just as long as she dont go outside and cut my brake lines afterwards. I mean, it would be a sad day after my team drags you all up and down the field, for me to get into a fight and have my brake lines cut by the same assailant.

Nah she'll get her grandson to do that. But yall won't have to worry about all that. Yall will lose anyway. :D

Dude, I didnt even think you still posted over here. I thought after that butt whoopin we put on you all last fall sent you somewhere else. Glad to see you back! It must be the "beginning" of football season around here.

Beans, I really feel for any JSU fan that starts that chant in Mumford. If they got their arse kicked then you would say we were wrong. I never disrespect anywhere we go to play. We win, I leave. JSU fans act like SU fans have done something to them in Jackson. Outside of normal isht talking and bringing a large crowd. Why is it imperative that you say Go Home? Hell the worse I have seen SU on the road is at FAMU when them fools ran on to the field. LOL. But hey if yall feel brave enough to chant that isht. Go right ahead. JR will say a prayer that some old lady don't whoop you like one almost did GR.:swink:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: True! What about the Goal Post?

Wouldn't it be kinda stupid for JSU fans would tell yall to go home, when yall will already BE at home?!! duuuuhhhhh!!!

Uh Jay Rob, ask your fellow JSU folks about that. I was only answering Beans. Not to mention some JSU folks have said they are going to say Go Home in Mumford to us.

Did you not read Beans post?

....but to hear it any way, before, during and after we calmly, methodically and systematically dismantle su's team, that would be priceless and so funny, while the BOOM's marching out to "Get Ready"!!:emlaugh:

I heard that the track in Mumford will not be there anymore once construction start. That sketch they made of the stadium won't be done like that because of that track so they are thinking of building over it or take it from there and build it so that's why the dates kept getting pushed back and they will move some seats up to where the track was but not that close to the sidelines and look for Mumford to seat around 35,000-40,000.

Jag-Br - where is the morning advocate report?

Schiefelbein: Henderson?s hard work paying off

By JOSEPH SCHIEFELBEIN

Nobody appreciates being a Southern wide receiver more than Mark Henderson.

He?s made that journey from the bottom to a place where he?s counted on to be a contributor. Twice.

This is the power of wanting it. And this is the power of doing what it takes to make that want come true.

Henderson was a skinny walk-on in 2005. Try 150 or so pounds stretched over a 6-foot-1 frame.

These days, he?s a lean, strong 170-175 pounds thanks to intense workouts at school and at a local YMCA and is starting to put polish to his game, as the starter at the ?Z? position, where he can use his speed.

What needs to be realized is Southern U. is usually stacked, as the Jaguars are again this season, with plenty of scholarship receivers.

Walk-ons don?t make this kind of climb often.

?He?s one of those exceptions, but he?s a kid that wants it,? said wide receivers coach Eric Dooley, who said Kentrell Plain, who started in 2001 and ?02, compares. ?When you want something and you go after it, the sky is the limit. It?s a tribute to his work ethic.?

Henderson had seven catches for 56 yards in the first four games last season and then had his breakthrough, five catches for 74 yards in the Bayou Classic.

That was supposed to be the start of big things, right?

Well, no and then yes.

No, because Henderson was held out of spring practice by the coaching staff.

Yes, because Henderson re-doubled his efforts in the wake of the situation.

?I believe everything happens for a reason,? Henderson said. ?For that to happen, I think it was a good thing because it made me a better player and a better person and made me understand more real-life situations."

Richardson?s last hurrah?

Southern coach Pete Richardson: ?I want to coach. It?s not the idea I have to prove to anybody I can coach.?

SU taking wait-and-see approach on coach?s contract

Southern University football coach Pete Richardson?s three-year contract ends Dec. 31.

That could be the last day Richardson, the second-most successful coach in SU history, is an employee of the school.

The school wants to see if Richardson can still win, after two straight losing seasons since in January 2005 he signed a deal paying him $200,000 annually.

?I think coach Richardson knows he has to deliver,? said Tony Clayton, the chairman of the Southern University Board of Supervisors? athletic committee.

Richardson, who will turn 62 on Oct. 7, said he?d like to stay at Southern. He also said he?s already shown what he can do.

?I was told they were going to make an assessment at the end of the season. ? Just to sit back and wait on the discretion of somebody else. I?m not going to do that,? Richardson said. ?If that?s the game you want to play, then fine.

Dec maybe to late..........

BTW,,,,,,,,Darren Clark in less than a full season was been sent up from rookie ball to a-ball....

Re: Richardson

This is a shame that a coach of Pete Richardson?s caliber has to prove that he can coach. He?s done more than any other coach in the SWAC for the last 15 years has. Clayton is one of the main reasons why black colleges and hbcu athletics in particular, is in the state that it is in today. Administrators don?t know a damn thing about pretty much anything, but they make all the decisions.
Who?s evaluating the board for all the bungling decisions that they have made. Where is the check and balance system for them. It?s obvious they have dropped the ball numerous times on the renovation projects. But the potentially worst decision they could have made was hiking up the ticket prices. Everyone knows that most of the Jaguar Nation ?truly? consists of black Baton Rougeans and others from surrounding areas whom may or may not have graduated or may or may not have attended SU. But because our administrators think that we are ?better? than that crowd, we out-priced them and now no one shows up for the games and now athletics is in a budget crunch. There couldn?t have been a marketing study done to figure out who spends money with SU. If it was done then, surely the powers that be would not have made such a half cocked move to cripple the football program, which would in turn cripple the athletics department. And if they did see a study reveal that the fan base which supports SU would not be able to support SU for an increased ticket price, then that?s all the more reason to question their competence.
Let?s be honest, SU?s ticket prices are comparable to LSU. Why pay the same price to see SU vs. PVU when you can see No. 2 LSU vs. No. 9 V-Tech. True football fans would rather see the better talent. Diehard jaguars should be treated better than that.
Southern was laughable at best before Pete arrived. Sure Casem, Otis Washington and even Kimble had talented players, but who remembers their records or better yet who wants to remember those days.
Talk about black on black crime. It would be criminal to fire the man that was responsible for polishing up the diamond in the rough program, and making it the top gem of the SWAC jewelry store.

What's up Coach Rich? Nice try but we'll deal with you in December:pimp:

Re: Richardson

Why does he have that same look on his face that he had when he was holding the helmet?

LOL. That's the look of anxiety that he is feeling on the bluff. The Nation will do that to you. It is the look all SU coaches have when their time has come.:goof:

Re: Richardson

Now that's ashame.
It shole is.

JR,
Yall can learn something from that school in your hometown. You see what happened to them when they threw JW out with the wash water. And he hadn't won anything remotely close to what Pete has. (even though JW did give 25 years of loyal draws washing)

food for thought

Legion

SU has made many many mistakes. Your first mistake was over paying a coach while your athletic buildings are falling down. GR could go on and on, but you guys would say GR is smacking. The funny thing is, GR always seems to be right. The situation is sad and may get sadder.

Or even a smalltime college in S. Alabama that treated their previous coaches worst. (Ex. Cole, Coe "who's now coaching in the NFL", etc.......)

Re: Richardson

Don't count Pete out... he has afavorable schedule this year with a lot of home (or neutral site) games to start the season off. His only tough road game this year will be UAPB... The "political" bosses at SU will be happy with wins over FAMU, TnSTATE, JSU and Alcorn cuz those are the games where they get to play "big time" host in the Pressbox that the ticket increase paid to have built.
