Because they would have made a lot more money than the buyout if Southern had shown up. A record crowd. Great entertainment. It would have been a good day for them.
The whining and crying is about money for McNeese, plain and simple. Not about "honor". It's about McNeese looking out for themselves and expecting Southern to not do the same.
Hypocritical, don't you think?
Actually, no...there's no way for Southern to set a record crowd at McNeese...our current record of 27,000 will stand unless we expand the stadium. When we put aluminum bleachers up, that changed the seating dynamic and we can no longer put overflow crowds on the hill like we used to be able to. The State Fire Marshall stopped that....
While you'd definitely bring a nice crowd, there's no way for you to set a record, so you can stop spouting that nonsense right now...
It's absolutely about honor...We went to your place, in good faith...after the hurricane, when it came time to straighten the schedules out and re-up, you guys tried everything, including invoking Force Majure to get out of paying the buy-out. EVERY Other school who was impacted by the hurricane agreed to try to reschedule and worked honorably to honor the contracts. Heck, Texas Southern was in the same boat as everybody else and they agreed to an impromptu game at the last minute. It worked for them, it worked for us...it wasn't about money. Northwestern let us use their field to play on, as did USL. As much as I dislike USL, I gotta give them their props for doing something classy. Northwestern's our biggest rival and not only did they let us use their field, their band practiced for a week to learn how to do our fightsong and came to the game and played for us.....THAT's honor. It's about more than the almighty dollar...
I understand the issues with Katrina. I got to New Orleans four days after the storm and stayed there, working in the Lower 9th and in St. Bernard parish for damn near two years. There's not a damn thing you can tell me bout Katrina that I don't already know...
And there's not a damn thing you can tell me about how the contract was handled. Eventually, you sacked up and the buyout got paid. If ESPN paid it instead of Southern, that's not exactly surprising, I guess....kinda sad, actually...
You can try to make it about money, but it's not. You know this...you just have no legitimate response, so you dissemble and deflect.
Sometimes you just gotta go with your strengths, even if they're not really strengths...talking isht and trying to pretend that you're smooth money making wheeler dealers only makes you look foolish. If that's what you think college football's about, it's no wonder you've always been in Grambling's shadow...
You and I both know I've made my point

So, on that note, I'm done. You guys can carry on.
This week will be an interesting test for both of you ;
