There's some generalization going on there. Yet, I understand your frustration. We have cops that post on this page and are they considered part of these cops you are referring to?

Don't get me wrong I support Black Lives Matter 100%....yet generalizing should NOT(sorry about the typo) be part of the movement. An across the board view of police officers should not be the case.

Where did the notion that black people don't care about black on black crime come from.? I'm puzzled. Please help me out? Does this go along with we don't care if our kids get an education? Does this go along with black people don't work?

Pretty much.

Idk what's worse, blacks saying "all lives matter "or "what about black on black crime" Shit is disgusting.

And absolutely lazy and reckless at the same damned time.

BLM protests and rallies — since the Dream Defenders in Florida really got energized after Trayvon Martin — have been aimed at voter registration, health screenings, addressing food deserts, income inequality, police brutality, etc. However, smaller groups have been tackling those issues for years. It's just that these groups are starting to work together, for the most part, under the BLM banner.

However, I think the BLM movement using the decentralized "no leadership" model of the Occupy Wall Street movement is going to hurt the message. Gotta be unified if you're going to win.

Journalist makes a great point here. Yes this thread is all over the place with valid statements on all 5 sides of this discussion. The decentralized nature of BLM will attract people with many different views and thought processes. Some of those views and processes are not focused on protecting lives as much as threatening other lives. Hell in a hand basket is inevitable but what direction collectively in the mean time is a 300 million _____ question.

If it scares white folks I am for it. White folks in America need to be scared. Its their time mofo's. Get scared because the rooster is crowing!!!!

Looks like we have people Outraged because people like Stephen A and Richard Sherman don't think like them..
That is far from the truth. The problem is black folks do care about black on black crime. That lie needs to stop. The problem is just like white people, black people judge our whole race on Pookie and Qutia. We appease white people to make them feel correct. Go read the yahoo comments. The same white people turned around and said and I quote " I now see Sherman different. Before I thought he was just a useless thug. I now see him different ". They only see him different because he is supporting their racist views at this moment. This is no different then white people saying they weren't racist until Obama became president. Ha!

Sherman's teammate, Michael Bennett, had a response to the comments.

I think it's great these cats can debate an issue like this respectfully. And I think it's great that the Seahawks allow for such discourse to take place:

"Oh yes, I was reading Richard Sherman’s quotes yesterday. I would like to say I disagree with some of the things that he said yesterday. I think when people talk about the black lives matter thing, I think he’s misinterpreting it, that black people kill black people, white people kill white people. People kill people every day.

I think the black lives thing is more about the social injustice, not so much the injustice of people killing within the community, it’s about the social injustice of the people that is supposed to protect them, and building the community through the black community. Not just black people too, because you see a lot of people within the Black Lives Matters organization that are white, Spanish, they are all dealing with the same type of hardships that are going on around the world.

I think sometimes people don’t take the time to look into what things really believe, or what’s really going on in the world, and I think when you say something and are in the position he is in, I think sometimes people take it and run with it. I think there are a lot of murders in a lot of communities, but a lot of time it deals with the segregation within the communities around the world. You look around, there is a white neighborhood, a black neighborhood, a Spanish neighborhood, instead of just calling them all American neighborhoods, or American communities. I think a lot of times people just get intertwined with different people and they don’t understand about what is going on in the world.

I think black lives matter a lot, and I agree with the Black Lives Matter movement. And I think a lot of times of people just don’t understand the movement or things that are going on, and it’s all about education and things like that too.

(inaudible question)

Well we had a conversation about it. His opinion is different from mine. My opinion is, I believe in the things that people are trying to do. There’s a lot of social injustice that’s been going on for awhile.

One of my favorite people that I read about all the time is Dick Gregory. I go back checking out his books, and you see what’s going on within the community and the world. Now people are starting to see people for who they are, and not just their color. There is still a small amount of people that want people to see people for their color and not their character’s that they have or the person that they come with or the person who they are or how they were raised. People are too worried about if he’s Spanish or if he’s black or if he’s Chinese, and not just talking to them and saying we’re all just people at the end of the day."

You've read or watched Joy DeGruy haven't you? We denigrate our own so white folk will feel comfortable. I remember the joke Richard Pryor told about Leon Spinks. He said white people be like don't you think he (Leon) is ignorant. Rich says his mind immediately went to, "what is this m_____fu___r gonna think about me if I agree with him?". As long as we make white folk feel comfortable in their bigotry things are never going to change.

You know where it comes from.

Not True. DC had 400 Murders in the late 80s/90s. To this day, many of those murders remain unsolved and will remain in the Cold Case Files for eternity.

...And the Police Departments of Miami and New Orleans were corrupt in the 80s/90s until things got so bad it the FBI had no choice but to intervene. Where was the outrage then?

See, #BlacksLiveMatter is quick to brush off crime against our own. Basically, #BlackLivesMatter is telling me as a Black Person it's ok for me to rob and kill my own. That is stupid.

Is it fair to say that the Miami and New Orleans Department of the late 80s/90s were most MINORITY DEPARTMENT? You do know Cops extorted Drug Dealers right? And the Drug a Dealers themselves obliged because the cops protected them.

You say some of the most asinine things I have had the displeasure of reading. You have to realize that the saying "Black Lives Matter" focuses on the behavior by the media, by politicians, and by police departments that marginalize those black lives. When you look at anecdotal evidence such as the situations with black celebrities being arrested or profiled, unarmed blacks being assaulted, shot, and killed, or even just plain harassment by police, the black lives matter movement is focused on: why it happens, who it happens to, preventing it from happening in the future, and justice for when it happens. To say it is anything else is just plain wrong.

Now, to the accusation of black on black crime being "important" in regards to the BLM movement. I love my people, I hate that we commit violence against each other. However, to take a long at that behavior without looking at the socioeconomic reasons for that behavior is unfair and unscientific. If you consider scarcity as important to behavior and economics, you will realize that there are false created scarcities to encourage certain behavior. If you look at certain laws that are passed or certain "business" decisions that are made, there are ulterior motives. I really want to say more, but I am exhausted with this entire debate. There are higher levels of incest, child pornography, child abduction, acts of domestic terrorism, insurance fraud, and mass murder among WHITES in the US. If BLM was calling for a race war (as WHITES are) then yes, they would and should be called problematic. But as that is not what they stand for and that is not what they are saying, you have no point, you have no intellectual leg to stand on, and the entire black race would be well served if you politely shut what we refer to as "the f*ck up"...

Until the "good" cops consistently and reliably call out and assist with the eradication of "bad" cops.. they are all the damn same. When there was legislation for dog breeds passed, we knew ALL pit bulls were not to blame, but the species had issues where if they were not properly trained and socialized they would behave in a dangerous manner.... the conceptualization seems familiar to me

I won't say all are the same but I understand your point. I believe if you see someone doing wrong and you do nothing about it then you approve of it and is just as bad as the one who did it. Actually you are worse.

now this is sad ...texas southern isn't an HBCU now is it? no black person in sight ...if I was black I would transfer

Of course we are don't be silly. We are still extremely majority black. Furthermore, how can you no longer be a "Historically" Black College/University?

That video was made 3 years ago to use as a recruitment piece at non black high school we recruit from.

well someone needs to explain this to the current txsu students so they will stop including this video as one of their concerns....

I basically the same thing in a Facebook discussion with some White and Hispanic people. When Blacks challenge the status quo and hold people accountable, it makes Whites nervouse. If you look at what other say about the BLM movement, it has a striking resemblance to what people said about the Civil Rights Movement. THAT makes me happy.

From a missions perspective, it would be ideal for BLM to organize and establish a hierarchy of responsibility, but that set up also lents to beauracracy which could eventually deter the organization from its main objective. So you really have to take it for what it's worth as it is now.

Why does a black person have to be a c**n because they don't agree with the BLM movement?

The spirit of which he used to marginalize BLM will be (and is) praised by white supremacists who KNOW this is a noble movement. Sherman, Ray Lewis, etc are not criticizing BLM out of love. They're doing it to get in good graces with white folks. If a black person with a spotlight has a legit issue with BLM and "the cause" in general, they need to take that up in private and STFU in public. Period. Otherwise, you will be ostracized and labeled as a c**n or a suspected white supremacist.

The right to an opinion does not come with a right to be free of consequence of the opinion.

Still inexcusable. Are you all trying to dupe people into thinking that there are no Blacks at TxSU? Any student that attends our schools need to understand that these are HBCU's first and foremost. Promise them that they will get a good education and be treated with dignity and respect, but this IS and will always be an HBCU.
