Report: Gay NFL Player Considering Coming Out

According to a report from Mike Freeman of CBS Sports, the NFL might soon have its first openly-gay player.

Freeman reports: “Based on interviews over the past several weeks with current and former players, I’m told that a current gay NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months — and after doing so, the player would attempt to continue his career.â€
Freeman, who said he’s not even sure who the player is, reports the player isn’t concerned with the reaction from his locker room, but he’s afraid of the fan reaction.

“This player’s true concern, I’m told, is not the reaction inside an NFL locker room but outside of it,†Freeman reports. “The player fears he will suffer serious harm from homophobic fans, and that is the only thing preventing him from coming out.â€

First homosexual player, the word gay in the dictionary means happy. We in this country is so into some being a homosexual.

If he is a top-level player, I don't think the fans would really care as much as he thinks they will.

I agree, keep it to yourself, but once it gets like Sandusky at Penn State or Pokey Chapman at LSU, then there's a problem.

Shut up fool you know damn well you don't want to know either...or do you!

Hey, why not? I think it would be a good thing for the NFL, pro sports in general and society at-large. A gay player coming out would dispel many misnomers surrounding this lifestyle and change the perception of gay male athletes, especially football players.

Besides, NFL teams are inquiring whether draftees like women.

Got Damn America I promise you I don't have to know every got damn thing...Jesus Christ keep me near the Cross!

I am going to have to agree with DCG on this one. There are just some things I just don't need or want to know. Damn!!! Keep that sh!t to yourself.

FREAKIN COSIGN!!! If your ass is GAY so be it. Go ahead and continue to be you, BUT we don't have to know you are gay. And feeling the need to "come out" is not about you being gay, it's about using your "gayness" to draw attention to you. Just shut the hell up and play football gott dammit!

Mane, we living in a world where folks can't wait to post all sorts of personal stuff (pictures of themselves, their babies, their food and their boo) on social media. Shoot, Tiger Woods posted photos of his new blonde main squeeze last week. Cats out here can't wait to show how masculine they are. We have no problem with images of hyper-masculinity thrown in our faces. But we don't want a closeted gay person in a high profile industry that goes out of its way to define, and measure what a man is and how he's supposed to think and function?

Gay people can post pictures of their loved one too. All I am saying is you don't have to TELL us you are gay.

Money grab .... person is thinking of opportunities. Otherwise, why do we give a f**** if you like to take stick? All I care is if you can block, run, pass, or catch.

That doesn't make any sense. What do you think is going to happen when this players starts posting pics of himself with his lover? Do you think people will just shrug and say "oh how nice"? He was in the closet for a reason. Coming out of the closet is a big process. You act as if this is the first time someone has announced they're gay.

Co-Signing DCG. I don't need to know about these athletes and their sexual preference. That's their business. America is gott dayum nosey. LOL.

There is no need for an announcement that you are thinking about announcing who you love. Just live your life and let folks see what they see. Same with folks who came out in the past. Hell everyone knew Ellen was gay when she came out. So what?

Folks know anyway. I mean come on now. We all knew Tommy was Tammy from childhood birth. :emlaugh: We just didn't say nothing because as long as you kool with us its all good.

A gay NFL player coming out during their career is a big deal. Stop acting like it isn't. Gays, unfortunately, don't have the option of just living their life. A few years ago being gay was still a crime in some states. And just the mere speculation of being a gay pro athlete is almost enough to drive your career into the tubes. Ask Kordell Stewart.

Who cares if he is gay. Not going to change my impression of him one way or another. Just play football.

I remember a few years ago while working in the CIO-G6 and the discussion of how to draft a new policy on don't ask don't tell. One of the Colonels said "I don't give a damn who they have sex with just be able to follow orders and achieve the mission. Folks think gay people want to sex the world and on the flip side gay folks want to stick their chest out to be proud that they are homosexuals."

Shit football is a job like any other job....why does a person have to admit they are a homosexual.

I'm really tired of this "I'm homosexual and proud stuff." Ok you're homosexual....so what...

Or like the old folks say CeeDog..."y'all know he is touched." :lmao:

A crime? I guess no one told the ones who use to prostitute on the corner of Ashby St and Fair St back in the 70's. No one told the folks in San Fran and Atlanta.
