Willie's a special talent. However, I think how he's used will first be determined by how healthy Menard is. If Menard's healthy, then that frees us up offensively to move Willie around more. If Menard's not healthy, who do you line up in Menard's spot in the offense?

He's back. Been back. Remember seeing IG videos of him running routes in December.

It's going to be hard for any new WR to earn a position, but dude is fast as hell lol. Mike Jones fast. Plus we redshirted that kid from WSJ that transfered from Baylor also.
 
Secondary is pretty much locked. I like our depth plus starters there.

Linebackers, im not sure what we have. DL, we are loaded. I just need to see more pressure on QBs this year. We need speed and more push from our DT.

Real talk, the shenanigans of last season were a blessing in disguise for Southern. A lot of young players (mainly defensively) came in and got serious PT while the school sorted out the details on the academic side. So this year, the team is still relatively young but is more experienced than last year's team.

We do get a couple of guys back from the foolishness last season along with returning players that got serious PT, but we also lose some key guys on the O-line. So the O-line, IMO, is the key area of concern.

We do get our starting OL from 13 back who didn't play. He was All SWAC. We just lose Zach and Dwayne really. Everybody else return.

Man!! Go on youtube and look at that run for touchdown that Tyre did. Man that guy is explosive and quick! Its the last run of the highlight of the game against Northwestern State. Plus injuries hurt Trye.
 
The Defense returns 7 Starters from last year, There won't be a battle, We will be filling in holes!

The WR Corps are solid but their positions are open except for #81 and (Fosselman) ? We are waiting of FHill grad ( J Mabry) R Shumake to see if they can catch the ball!

The QB position is not open but I dont think Ivy will be starting the 1st game. ( C Jackson is going to be very cautious ) I think we will see Jarin more 1st game unless Ivy is HOT from the door. (not a battle at that position) JSU signed another QB and will be known by Fall Camp.

Runnings Backs are set but I think if Robert Johnson or Moore don't get it going, we have a list of backs, that position is still open!
 
Every position Lol. Lee doesn't play favorites but I doubt anyone replaces Jav on dline. LB and DT have a battle. Safety is not secure either, DB has two starters. RB is complete. WR is pretty much done. I don't see frosh pushing our seniors mckenzie, moll, fosselman. Ollie, Shumake, Hill, Gohlston are sleepers, also we'll see what benjy does. OL is set at Center but nobody else's job is safe. Kickers are complete. QB is partially complete, we're bringing in a transfer plus morikawa to "push" ivy. I still think he's our guy and we'll see all three play vs mtsu but I doubt a transfer will catch up in the play book in time to seriously threaten ivy. Only morikawa has a shot really.

Dude, nothing about your defense has been good the last two years. Unless you all have changed a LOT, don't expect too much.

Cool. I am calling the AAMU QB battle the most intense position battle the SWAC has seen in a while. I think so because both kids showed that they are capable of running the pistol and making plays.

Ballard rushed for 753 yards at Southwest and has that extra confidence boost because of his collegiate experience. I watched his highlights at SMCC and he seems to have "great" field awareness. That kid can run on on side of the field under heat and still find an open slot reciver who broke his route to get open.
He doesn't throw a pretty ball, but it does have some zip on it. He is a strong and has a true division I QB frame.

I know I picked May to win the battle, but I won't be shocked if Spady went with Ballard. Spady is the type of coach who believes in the defense setting the offense up to score. I haven't seen May aside froma spring game clip, but he doesn't need to hit the weight room.

Who will win the Bulldog QB battle?

Yea LT21 did his thang last year. Now if we could have landed his understudy from McKinley named Tyrone Scott Jr,(Freshman at Nicholls St) MAN, that crowded backfield would have been "ignant." Scott is a little shifter than Tillery.

Interesting to see how you guys will do with a new staff.

Seriously, yall got a helluva player that came from The Lab named Joseph McWilliams. Dude can play. I would put him at FS before CB. And he's a return specialist. Look for him to make some noise, except for the last game in November in New Orleans. lol

"Like last season, our quarterback will not have played a down at the Division I level," Spady said. "We've got four quarterbacks … we'll just throw the ball out there and let them play."

Spady did say that junior college De'Angelo Ballard has a slight lead over redshirt freshman Damion May, with freshman P.J. Garrett and redshirt freshman Cody Lui-Yuen also in the mix.

Lui-Yuen has height on his side, but his running ability is questionable. He *might* be a darkhorse for 2nd string, but it's a long shot. Unless he shocks the world in fall camp.

The thing about Spady...he's not gonna play favorites like Jones did. He's gonna go with who he thinks is the best option.

Man, we know PV offense will have any issue at all unless Simmons just decides to change everything. Offense I expect PV to be really good unless the kids don't pick up on the new terminology from their new coaches. But I highly doubt that Simmons messes that offense up. He may make it more balanced which will keep your defense off the field.

Cool. Ballard has great awareness, but May has the best overall tools. If he goes with Ballard, Lui-Yuen is going to most likely transfer because he won't beat out May for the 2nd man.
