It's absurd. Ed Reed said that HBCU'S have "broken mentalities" & he may have been on to something considering some are still considering hiring him & some fans actually want him after his open disrespect for HBCU'S. Not only are they passing up quality grads they are trying to give jobs to arrogant ex NFL players who thought hbcus were beneath them. The SWAC / MEAC has hired numerous ex NFL players & they are not some panacea to a program.

That is the one advantage of hiring a former NFL star. The financial part isn't high on the priority list as much as having your own D1 program

Coach Scott of Howard turned down Saban & Alabama because he liked being a HC & not a position coach at the whim of another Head Coach. Makes no sense to remain dedicated to hbcus though when they are randomly pursuing ex NFL players over those who've dedicated their lives to this. It's near insulting.
 
Deion and Eddie George got everyone thinking this is the move. Could turn out great... could turn out terrible. NSU hired Vick when the Peta HQ is in Norfolk. DAHILL mentioned it and folks dismissed it but those folks up there already protesting. At the least, Vick is from that area and should be able to recruit well there. Desean Jackson... I just dunno about that one. Main thing I saw all in the comments was that Hitler comment. As much as folks want it to, that ain't going away.
 
I'll be the first to say I wanted Tremaine Jackson. I think most of the SWAC did. lol We lost out so I hope we just go with a winner. I'm tired of being HBCU good. I want us to beat OOC games not just show up. I think Jackson was the coach to do that. So now I hope we get whoever else is able to do it regardless of where he comes from. I think Shade will be a good coach and could win the SWAC. I don't know about OOC on this level but he'd be a good coach.
