Jerry Mack is a serious candidate for the Southern Miss head coaching position, according to Pete Nakos. He is currently serving as the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. As head coach of NCCU, Mack guided the Eagles to the 2016 Celebration Bowl before losing to Grambling State, 10-9.

Interesting, Jerry Mack has been OC and AHC there before. I hope he gets a shot if he wants it, but I can't see leaving the NFL for Rice.
I was thinking the same thing. Rice could offer Jerry Mack atleast $1M a year. That would be more than what he makes in the NFL.

While Coach Hilliard did not have a single winning season in his three years as the head football coach of Elizabeth City State University, I hope the AD and the new head football coach will continue on with some of the improvements Coach Hilliard had a hand in:

Football Camps for local Middle and High School players
A standard number of coaches that are actually paid a living wage

I will be looking forward to see who the next Head Football Coach of ECSU will be and hopefully they can put the Mighty back into the Mighty Vikings of Elizabeth City State.

Being an NC Promise school has been a blessing for ECSU and allows people to get an education at more responsible price. $500 per semester for instate students and $2500 per semester for out of state students. ECSU out of state cap was increase to allow up to 50 percent of the overall enrollment to come from out of state students (as historical ECSU has connection to eastern North Carolina and tidewater area of Virginia).

A downside of being a NC Promise school was the 75 percent cut in athletic funding that came with being a NC Promise school because of either a reduction in the athletic fee that was charge to students or the removal of the athletic fee all together. The AD, President, and others (like the majority black city council) have worked hard in finding other funding sources and ECSU athletic department will be getting 1 million a year from the state because of sport betting (this was the first year that NC public colleges\universities getting this money). The new dorm should be online in 2025/2026 along with the new cafeteria. Hopefully we can get the hotel built, as the administration has said that some of the revenue from that would be used to support athletics (as one of the pain point for alumni and others is the price gouging by hotels during homecoming).

ECSU recruiting budget is only $350 though, so that is going to be challenge for any new head coach.

ECU has also fired a coach

Indeed and now they are on winning streak and are more than likely going to a bowl game. I have heard Coach Willie Simmons named being mention as possible hire for ECU and Kennesaw State. While I think he would be great fit for ECU, there are some names ahead of Coach Simmons that have a connection with the school and/or the area.

If Coach Simmons some how gets the job, I know the Black Alumni Association will support similar to how they support Coach Ruffin. I might personally even go the extra mile and pay to attend one of those booster dinners in Greenville (they are reasonably price compared to other universities).

$350 ? WOW like $350.00 . That's crazy.

Yes, 350.00. I am hoping that got increase because of the gambling money, but the new budget numbers will not be released into 2025. It is too bad that ECSU does not have an account to donated just to the football recruiting budget.

What is funny is that every time I give to ECSU athletes they think I am someone else because of my first and last name (there are 5 of us that have the same first and last name in my family that I know of, but it is not a surprise that they maybe others given how big the family is).

I kind of figure this was going to happen because the AD wants to bring his guy in. Tough for Bubba I have ton of respect for him.
