Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Not.

They could have taken all of their scholarships, fined them $600M, with 10 years of probation and it would not have been worse than the death penalty.

SMU still hasn't gotten over the death penalty.

Teams like USC, Miami and Alabama were given pretty stiff scholarship redutions, and came right back to win or be in contention for National Championships.

I won't even get into the embarrassment, and stigma the Death Peanalty would have caused.

Trust me, this ain't even close to being a death penalty.

Actually SMU wouldn't have been as good as thy were without that pay-for-play program they had, so in reality, this may be where SMU is supposed to be athletically anyway.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

I'm thinking probably 50-60% of the team will transfer out. That will open up a number of scholarships for those roster spots. I wonder can the coaches give those scholarships out to new kids who may be on campus, or may have been walk-ons last year or would they be counted as new "initial counters" and be subject to the 15 scholarship penalty?

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Why do we fail to mention that John Gagliardi has 471 wins and is still coaching? He is the winningest football coach in college football history.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

So the NCAA President is now just like Roger Goodell? No due process? No investigatgion? The NCAA NOT following it's own bylaws? The people who committed the allegations are all GONE? Now whose being punished?
Certainly not the ones who committed the acts. And people claim this is justice by punishing innocent bystanders?

Kill the due process argument. Penn State agreed to everything and signed a consent decree.

They had to. It's all about image. Defending a situation of a culture where a man can rape boys is not a good look.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

There is word that the Big 10 is also having a news conference today and they may level further sanctions (i.e. no appearances on the Big 10 Network for the next so many years). This would hurt Penn State even further as a lot of their money is made from the Big 10 network.

I understand that part but it still violated it's own bylaws. Where's the punishment of the actual perpetrators? They're all gone, so whose being punished? It makes no sense at all.

The school is responsible for the people it hires.

They're all charged criminally.

No they didn't. The NCAA more than likely threatened them with the death penalty in a take it or leave it agreement.

Innocent folks at Penn State will now be penalized multiple times for the offenses of others who are now being investigated by the judicial system and law enforcement. That's akin to double, triple, quadruple jeopardy.

First the NCAA, now the Big Ten, then civil lawsuits, then the state courts, then the DOE, then federal. Where and when will it end. This is a witch hunt that's going to involve mostly innocent people.

It's too bad the Catholic church and it's priests aren't going through such harsh treatment, and many more of them are actually guilty.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

with that "logic", no school should ever be punished by the NCAA. Only individuals. :smh:

So how do you call it a "just" system when they can't even punish the actual perpetrators? But this Emmert guy is talking about morality and ethics?! Hahahahahaha!!!!

Two wrongs don't make a right. Folks just giving unelected systems unlimited power to punish innocent folks.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

For once, I'm agreeing with Stephen A Smith. Penn State is getting what they deserve. And Joe Pa had many chances to come out and do something about it and didn't. And Sandusky was once a 2 time Defensive Coordinator of the year, he retires? He still has access to everything on campus. And if he was so great, why didn't he accept a position at another school?

And some are forgetting the kid that reported what he saw in the shower was offered a coaching position with the team!!!!!
