Mega-Churches facing forclosure....

I attend a large church in the MD area who proclaims the gospel in and out the church.. does community service projects, provide awareness, etc.... so I wonder where do you get your info from to make that statement..

First off, if you go back and read my post, I said most churches not all. But to share my OPINION with you, it is of my opinion that the best way a church can serve God, is by allowing its member to grow within the church. Most of these large churches are huge sanctuaries (cash cows) that serve their members for a few hours on Sunday. I personally experience the growth of a large Black church in my hometown. When they increased their sanctuary to accommodate its members, not one of their members participated in the design and construction of the church. I know this because I worked for the Consultant Engineering firm who did all their site work and structural engineering and not one employee of that firm was a member of that church, with 90% of the employees being white. When a church is that big, they should have the necessary resources within the church to grow. Not only this help in the development of the church, but it also provide a means for its members to grow while they are doing God's works, which empowers them to spread out in the community with the Godly talents the church has provided them. I guess that's why Jewish Communities are so successful. What they practice in their synagogues and their faith in God are their means to sharpen their skills to take into the world. I see a lot of mega church putting out fake Christian Soldiers.

That's your opinion, but I've seen tons of churches only established for the sole purpose to make money. And a lot of these churches believe that they should show off the wealth they consider God has granted them. Fred Price is always bragging about his nice suits, cars, and watches, because he feel God gave it to him.

Come on Jag89, you've "seen tons of churches" established just to make $$$? Okay make it easy.... list only the top 10 worst, by name. Be specific with facts about their start up that show they were established just to make $$$ (unless you were just assuming or hating).

Please, no more then 10 with proof.

Lets be real, if you were to compare what YOU do monthly, to what these mega churches do in the community monthly, how would YOU measure up? What do YOU do?

Tell me what proof you want. If I just tell you, you won't believe me. If I show you the website, you won't believe IT.

Read my reply to LAPanther and you'll see what I'm talking about. Maybe your church is doing those things, but most of them I have seen are not.

Instead of listing the top 10 worst, because I really don't know which ones are the worst, I can at least say this, there are a few in every major city in this country. And if you want specifies, I gave LAPanther one, which is not allowing its members to sharpen their skills while they are doing God's work. And what do I do, since I was once a deacon, making others aware of the problem is the first building block to up righting the ship.

So... you gave your opinion about 1 out of the "tons" you've personally seen? Hmmm. Right.

So again, what do YOU do monthly for your community that allows you to criticize, make assumptions, hate on others? List your (jag89) top 5 monthly ministries, projects, etc. Naw, just do 3...

You ask such easy questions, but I'll be glad to answer.

1. Awareness training
2. Tutorial Lessons
3. Spending time listening to others

Not one of those I listed requires money, it's the skillful training I have acquired that I enjoy sharing with others.

Now can you list three things you do without saying the amount of money you or church spent in helping others?

IMHO, most churches have lost site on teaching their congregation on how to fish. They rather give them a fish and call it a SUNDAY.

I am not a holy roller by any means, but I always find it funny how people can find reasons not to put money in the collection plate while they trick off funds elsewhere. I can understand that everyone may not agree with tithing for whatever reason. However, every church has a collection plate regardless of the denomination or the size of the sanctuary. If a person doesn't want to attend a "megachurch", then there are plenty of smaller churches out there that could use committed Christians.

I have seen and heard some things from some churches that would lead me not to attend those churches. However, that doesn't stop me from attending the church of my choice and supporting as needed (either financially or through service). I can't stand Fred Price and Creflo Dollar, but instead of sitting back and complaining about them I simply do not attend their churches or support their activities. What they are doing doesn't affect what I choose to do. Likewise, what's going on in some congregations shouldn't affect your own walk with God.

All in all, although a person may not wish to give their time, talent, and finances to a "megachurch", that shouldn't stop them from giving their time, talent, and finances somewhere.

Wow! That list, especially #3, really allows you to criticize others? :retard:

Look, it's good that you are doing something, but multiply what you do times 1000 and apply it to other states, other countries, etc and that's what a lot of big ministries do.

Example:
1. Awareness training? Mega churches do this for the world via TV, radio, etc. They give awareness to people in India, Africa, etc the name of Jesus and bible teaching and build christian schools (lakewood).

2. Tutorial Lessons? Mega churches with $$$ do this on a MUCH bigger scale than individuals with no $$$ through mulitiple ministries. Here's a few examples from my church which touches 90 million people around the world: http://lakewood.cc/pages/ministries/events.aspx

3. Spending time listening to others? No comment....

The fact that these churches do what you do (above), and 1000 times more, doesn't give them the right to judge you, BUT you also can't make non factual assumptions about them.
Not that it matters for this conversation but since you asked this is what I do TheKidsCharity.com. You'll find 3 things there. I've been a part of ministries that people have unjustly judged so it's hard for me to judge others now.

hey, we all have a viewpoint. I was raised in the church but will tell folks quick, I'm "allergic" to organized religion and go because they don't have a piano player. Other may not go from an experience in church or a dedicated member that practices "churchanity" instead of true christianity.

All churches aren't bad, but we you see a recurring theme in many of them, its easy to lump them together. I'm not interested in joining the argument, just hope we all find how to get what we need spiritually from whatever sources.

Peace out.

Oh, and yes, I do do something. I tithe, participate esp with the youth, do missionary with my home church as well as others that ask, etc.

I guess the only person we have to answer to now is God. Even Jesus didn't like it when his followers decided to do things on a much bigger scale by worshipping money. Maybe Mega-Church Christians need to start learning how to remove money out of the equation in some of the thing they do, because money sure clouds a person vision, which lead to corruption.

You still haven't provide me information on what you are doing as an individual. And are you saying listening to others is not a Christian thing to do, because there were moments when Jesus spent time talking and listening to His followers. Somehow I see your Christian values are based on some grand scale ideal that requires a lot of money.

Wow, Ebenezer is a big player in the area.

True! I used to be a member of Metropolitan Baptist in D.C. They sold their church while building a new church. They ended up not being able to continue with the construction of the new church because of the economy. Banks had stopped giving out loans. Now they have church at a high school.

This might be slightly off the topic, but I know Booker T. Washington is turning over in his grave. Churches are so depended on others that they have no means of doing things for themselves. Mainly large churches should be Christian micro cosmopolitan with all the necessary resources to function indepently, which is one of the reason why they are tax exempt. There should be skillful members that should be able to finance the construction of a church. Also, there should be members that should be able to construct the church. Even Jesus was a carpenter. Somehow I do not see a lot of churches empowering its member with the necessary tools to make this happen.
