You dumb kcuf, they did NOT try to make it into a classic. It was just moved to New Orleans. To make it a true classic, you would have to add all the sponsors, pageantry and side shows. it was just a football game in the dome.

Accept it.....nobody cares about you but you and the only reason you're getting on ESPNU is because of your Classic sponsorts and sideshows and "Classic" name. If it was just You vs. them.....ESPNU wouldn't give a siht about you. Believe that.

Bamas wanna be up there with the big 3 so bad that you'll try anything and any excuse but sorry.....nobody cares. Have fun being on ESPNU.....nobody will be watching because your 100k fans will be in the stands.

Dumb statement from a dum-my!

I've attended several MCC's BEFORE 1999 and SINCE 1999.
When I first attended, AAMU was still in the SIAC. But I recall
it always being a really nice crowd and fun atmosphere up in Legion Field.

NOT TO MENTION..... that MAGIC CITY CLASSIC PARADE
was always off the hook, too!!! Parade would still be going on or
just ending after the game had started. :jump:

So, what's the point of this thread? I'm just curious.....

I heard about the MCC at the end of 89, but that's only because one of my classmate's (like quite a few New Orleanians, never made the connection though) went to ASU. The odd thing though (and don't take this the wrong way), as big as the MCC is/was, they talked more about the Turkey Day Classic.

Lewis, makes a good point though, a lot of interstate rivalries are huge in state, and their rivalries are heated, but on a national scale, those games don't seem big at all. It's just another game that's played during the 2 rivalry weeks in college football.

This is by no means a way to discredit the MCC, because that's not my intent, but I know in New Orleans, a lot of people didn't (when I was in school) know about, or have never heard about the MCC. I say that because high schoolers in the NO are/were very knowledgeable about BCF, if for no other reasons than the bands, the halftime shows, and step shows.

Truthfully, there wasn't a lot of people flocking to AAMU (and that's not a knock on AAMU), but again, on the flip side quite a few went to ASU, and a helluva lot of them went to Tuskegee. There just wasn't a big AAMU presence in the city at the time, especially at the college fairs every year, ASU, and Skeegee did a good job of marketing their schools in NO.

Again, I ain't trying to knock the MCC, but in New Orleans more than likely if you didn't know anybody that went to ASU, or AAMU chances are you didn't know about it, because it wasn't publicized, or there wasn't a big exodus to the game on that weekend, like there was for other big games.

If it's of any consolation though, nobody in New Orleans knew much, or anything about Pine Bluff, or the Gateway Classic until they came into the SWAC.

NICE

Our point to the Bamas is, the JSU/SU game draws a huge crowd...mainly in Jackson because the stadium is bigger without having to have a CLassic name attached to it. We're trying to tell them, that if they didn't have "MCC" attached to the game and all the sponsored parage, pageantry and side shows, then this game wouldn't draw all the hype nor fans in the stands. Their fan base isn't even big enough by itself to draw that type of crowd without it being dubbed the MCC. Basically, they need the "MCC" title to get noticed. Go around the country and nobody knows who the h-ll AAMU is. maybe John Stallworth.

Don't get all bitter and get your panties in a bunch just because nobody has sponsor the JSU/SU game. I doubt they ever will after hearing of all the events that have taken place espcially after the NCCU game.

if, if, if,if if if if if if if if if

heck,
the case could easily be made that without Eddie Robinson's legacy and Grambling's name recognition, the BC "wouldn't draw all the hype"

:scared:

That's the point.....we don't NEED a sponsor for a regular Saturday football game for it to be big. YOU DO. what's your average attendance......huh? About 7 or 8000?

Make up your mind on what you are going to discuss! The MCC is topic over here. We don't need a sponsor but damn shole aint gonna turn it down when it's obvious its what the people want to see

You DO need a sponsor to draw a big crowd because your other games DON'T draw a big crowd. I asked for numbers earlier but it's funny that none of you country boys give show me any? You scared to show 'em.?

I think I saw where bluedog just turned 50. And he actually started this thread and said he hadn't heard of the MCC til 99. :smh:

Too bad he aint got the good sense (thanks rob) to realize just how small it makes his knowledge of bcf seem.

I mean, it's one thing that these misinformed youngsters who just got to college (or not even there yet  ) to get on here and think it's "something" to say they hadn't heard of it, but for someone of bluedog's age. :smh::smh:

damn!

but then again, he did just tell that outrageous lie that the JSU/SU game "always brings 60,000 when both schools are in the hunt and 50,000 when they're not."

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well that was posted just a couple of days ago and you can't actually be sure that you remeber that, so why would you think I'd know something about a D2 school that has "NEVER" been shown is this area until the new millennium?

Now neither you or any bama alum can show proof of your statement that the game has been nationally televised since 89 or that it has had an attendance of 60k plus since it's inception but your statement is suppose to be truth.

Again I don't care and nobody here cares how many people go to the game. The question is how many SWAC Alums (non-bama) knew of this game before both bama schools became members of the SWAC.

Now having said that, at the looks of thing at this point with 66 votes in it appears that 64% of the SWAC alums so far haven't and that includes the bama schools. So in short there's a whole lot of bammas that haven't heard of it either.

I was born and raised in Atlanta. SU nor JSU got props doing my years staying in the ATL. So what's your point? Outside of JSU/SU no one cares. JSU/SU was not heard of by most people in the Atl during my younger years either.

Nooooo what's your point? When did I say or anybody for that matter, that a regular season game between JSU/SU was known about nationally?

Now lets be for real Cee Dog, if the MCC would have been televised nationally since 1989 why is it nobody in our conference has seen it until recently but the bama schools?

  • Did the networks put a blackout clause on all SWAC households?
  • Maybe the parental control button was turn on
  • Maybe all of the SWAC alums left there homes that day
  • Maybe all the other SWAC alums didn't watch TV that day
  • Maybe all the other SWAC alums cable wasn't working.

I mean come on let's get real here. But the person that make these comments with no proof wants to call others a lie.

Call BET and see did they tape the classic for over 15 years. You will definetly get your answer.

maybe just maybe you was in college... we all know SU just RECENTLY got cable on campus.... but the MCC has been on tv EVERY year since at LEAST 89.

This is a stupid topic. Its kinda like before 2000 I had never heard of the Capital City Classic, Florida Classic, or really any other SWAC rivalry period aside from SU/Grambling and Bama State/AAMU. In LaGrange where i'm from there are a lot of AAMU grads so there was a bus available to go to the game every year. And i'm from GA.:retard:

Fine but that doesn't change the fact that most folks so far didn't know about the MCC now does it?

BTW, BET didn't always show all of it's taped delayed games nationally.

Get Ready went to magic city

.... (LOL)

I also had a "classic" moment at Magic City!
Glad it wasnt televised:bawling:

As far as national appeal between the MCC and the BC...hmmm let's see...

BC title sponsor is STATE FARM...(national commercials... you know..."like a neighbor")

MCC title sponsor FOOD WORLD...(can't say ive seen one of their commercials...maybe they choose to market themselves by word of mouth)

_____________________________________________________________

For SU/ JSU (not a classic...but the premier game in HBCU football)

it doesnt need a fri. night battle of the bands...the battle begins before the game, during the game, and lasts until the police makes them leave after the game!

it doesn't need to have a celebrity sing the national anthem...either band does just fine

no politican does the coin toss...the refs are ok doin it

no blues or rap concert after the game...the tailgating is still goin on in the parking lot...

other SWAC and even MEAC alums come from all around to see these two schools...im pretty sure that other alumns attend the MCC too...but probably because they are either married to an ASU or AAMU alum...or the live in Alabama...

so honestly...in my opinion as far as popularity the MCC holds a strong #4 spot.

1) Bayou Classic
2) JSU/ SU game
3) State Fair Classic
4) MCC
5) Labor Day Classic

keep up the good work...im proud of ya!:smash:

If you didnt know about then... IM SORRY... Different parts of the country... different games mean different things to different people..... Here.. white folks would kill to watch Alabama vs Auburn... white folks in La. could care less about the game... same thing with HBCU football... people here could care less about JSU/SU... the same as people in LA could care less about AAMU/ASU.
