Kobe Bryant earns first MVP

Easy. Wes Unseld did it for years and was only 6'7". It takes sheer will and strength. Not to add a superior game plan.

Who said Wes was a great defender? He wasn't, so what's your point of using his name? He played average defense as long as he wasn't under the basketball on defense, and he certainly couldn't jump.

Nice try though trying to help ya boy, Psychodumb, out. Too bad he dragged you into his mess.

Right. Russell was one of the most dominant big men in the league at that time partially with the help of his great athleticism and superior defense. Russell had the leadership ability, where it took Chamberland some years to realize that great stats don't always lead to championships. When he utilized teamwork, the Sixers broke the string of championships by the Celtics in 1966.
The main difference between Jordan and Bryant is this: trial by fire. Jordan came into an organization full of coke heads and took them to the playoffs. Jordan was often ostracized by his teammates and later had to help develop rookies Pippen from Central Arkansas State and Horace Grant. Jordan took his teams up against Boston and Detroit, who were the most dominant teams in the East at the time. Jordan was so dominant, that John Daly and the Pistons instituted the Jordan Rules to try to stymie him. Nevertheless, as he persevered and his team matured and eventually went on their first streak of three peats.
Jordan's and the Bulls impact was so large on the East, that the East has never been the same. I mean, look at Boston.

Kobe came into a Laker organization in the midst of resurgence. Although he and Shaq had their tough years together, they were still title contenders and needed Jordan's coach to take them to the promiseland, along with a slew of all stars. I guess its the Gary Buss way.

IMO, Magic is a much greater Laker than Kobe. Game 6 of the 1980 finals is my proof, and I rest my case...

How many All Defensive teams, first, second or third, did Magic make? ZERO!!

Back to the original discussion....

Look, everyone on this board acknowledges Kobe Bryant is a great basketball player. However, not everyone considers him to be the greatest of them all just yet.

Voters have not overlooked Kobe Bryant for MVP because of a fight between the Pacers and Pistons or because voters don't like him. The MVP has historically gone to the best players on one of the best teams in the NBA for that season. The Lakers had the best record in the West and like Dirk the year before, Kobe won the MVP. That's it.

Like I said, even after Kobe retires LeBron James will have another 10-12 years of basketball left in him to attempt to exceed those lofty achievement established by Russell, Chamberlain, Robertson, Johnson, West, Bird, Jordan and Kobe Duncan and Shaq.

Not to mention that Bill Russell was one of the top 5 high jumpers in the world.

Dude, it's obvious you never watched Russell play. He was more of a finesse player, with very little strength to back up his leaping.

Chamberlain flat out dominated Russell, but Russell's team won most of the games. How can ONE man score 50 points six times on a supposedly great defender? How can this SAME man get 55 rebounds in one game against a so-called great defender?

Answer those questions Psychodumb.

Yeah but how many Championships does he have? How many finals MVP's does he have? How many regular season MVP awards does he have?

More than Kobe. :lmao::lmao:

Gayrob,

11 NBA titles........Wilt is the 2nd greatest scorer of all time. A great scorer will score. Russell was a winner but I guess you can't relate to that El Stupido.

More than Kobe.

Psychodumb, you cease to amaze me. Magic barely played defense. He's definitely one of the greatest, but he had Kareem, Worthy, Wilkes, Nixon, Cooper, McAdoo, Scott ALL on his team. You just gone wipe that out of the equation?!

Getting all sorts of accolades doesn't make one a greater player. There was a reason that there was "Showtime." "Showtime," "Showtime."

BTW, Magic as a rookie, took the team on his shoulders and won game 6, playing every position on the floor, and scoring 42 points. This was before Worthy, Scott, and a slew of others arrived on the team, and Kareem was out with a severe ankle injury.

As a rookie, Kobe threw up an airball trying to tie game five, and had to be consoled by guess who...Shaq.

Magic is leagues greater than Kobe.

JayRob, your biased opinions makes it tedious and unbearable to debate with you.

Gayrob a.k.a. El Stupido,

The teams Kobe had with Shaq should have won at least 5 titles. Kobe couldn't handle being the 2nd option........He'll be lucky to ever see the finals again.

If Kobe had Norm Nixon, James Worthy, Michael Cooper, Jamaal Wilkes, Byron Scott, Kareem, Sam Perkins as teammates, how could he not win the title?

You guys just ignore all of those players?! Hahahaha!!

So does Bill Russell, but would you say Russell is better than Kobe?!

Is Bill as athletic as Kobe? No. Is Kobe more talented? Yes. Has Kobe made as big of an impact on the game as Bill Russell? Hell no. Will Kobe end his career with a better career than Bill Russell? Hell no.

11 titles man......One coaching and playing at the same time. :smh:

Yeah and GaychoFagg you're getting dumber by the post. Some of your ignorance is rubbing off on Jaghammer.

Leave him alone Jaghammer. He's subtlely dumbing you down.

If Magic had Shaq, Gary Payton, Karl malone, and Derek Fisher he would have won the title and the Bulls single season record would be no more.

Aww look Gayrob is angry because I said his fantasy of Kobe wouldn't come true.

You need to look your facts up before making dumbarse statements like that one above...Kareem didn't even play in game six and the only other great Lakers that were on the team were Norm Nixon and Jamaal Wilkes. The others came later.

Dayum, I just can't comprehend your dumbness. That's not even a halfway decent comparison. Payton was in his prime when he was at Seattle and Malone's prime was with Utah, and Derek Fisher is an average player at best. All you can name is Shaq.
This simply proves that Magic had far more support on his team.

Dude, go to sleep, or go to a club and get your mind right and then try again tomorrow. Your dumbness is depressing me.

The teams that won the 3 championships were pretty loaded. You gotta give Magic his props though. I'm sure Kobe took some notes from him. They have different games, but with a very solid team, Magic stood head and shoulders over them all. Well, maybe not Kareem, but he was old by that time.

See your dumbassery has really blinded you. I can't believe you're a 1993 graduate of JSU. Then again...

Kareem didn't play in game six, but did he play in games one, two, three, four and five? Yes.

Where did I say they were ALL on one team? Show me.
Where?

Magic played with all of these players for an entire decade. Kobe only had Shaq to play with. You can't even name other great players Kobe had on his team. All you can name is Shaq.

You're so stupid!!! What was their record that year??? And you're gonna tell me that they had no support??? You must mean they didn't have Kobe's support!! :lmao::lmao:

Hold up, fellas. Can we have a normal discussion without the childish name-calling? It's cool to debate, but ya'll gotta stop the insults here.
