Report: Kobe earns first MVP

LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant has won the NBA's MVP award for the first time, the Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site Friday night, citing anonymous sources familiar with the outcome of voting by media members.

The newspaper reported that commissioner David Stern will be in Los Angeles next week to present the trophy to Bryant.

"We have not been told anything by the league," Lakers spokesman John Black told The Associated Press.

Bryant, who entered the season as the league's two-time defending scoring champion, was third in the MVP voting twice -- after the 2002-03 campaign, when he averaged 30 points for the first time, and again last season, when Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki won the award.

Even though I'm not a big Kobe fan, he deserved this MVP. Nash got one of his MVPs. Hopefully their will be no more Canadian and European players winning MVPs.

Wow! That sounded almost like a prejudice statement. As long as young basketball players who are not ready for the NBA keep coming into the league, there will be more international players winning MVPs.

Heck, Argentina is the defending Olympic basketball champions.

Anyway, I'm so glad he finally won an MVP so the many jockriders can stop all their crying and moaning that Kobe had not won the award.
 
I hope this is accurate. Kobe deserves that award. I figured LA to be fighting for an 8 seed in the West, and he leads them to first. Besides, its about time they actually give it to the best guy in the league, instead of changing the rules so they can give it to someone else.

It looks like to me the award has gone to the player whose team had one of the best records in NBA. Oh, the Lakers had the best record in the Western Conference and Kobe finally got it. Strange?

That's a lie. What did that best player do last year when it counted??? That weak dude had 6' 8" Stephen Jackson checking him. He's 7 freaking feet. And Steve Nash winning back to back MVPs was a joke. Nash has more MVPs than Kobe and Shaq. :lmao:

Dude, MVP is for regular season, not post season.

Congrats to Kobe, he deserved it.
 
This should be Kobes 3rd consecutive MVP. The last two were given to white players simply because they are white. The NBA is an engineered league and David Stern has his thumb on it. The fight in Detroit determined who got those awards. Kobe being accused of rape didnt help his case out either. Stern is doing what he can to "supposedly" keep white folks interested in the NBA. Of course these are the same folks that will watch and celebrate a hockey fight on a nightly basis. Patrick Roy's son beat another player down in the middle of the ice...the other guy didnt want to fight and wasnt fighting back, yet Roy was called "passionate."
 
Kobe is the greatest player of all time
This just adds to his resume. It also takes away an excuse from the Kobe haters that have said "he cant be great, he aint even won an MVP." Aint that right Mighty Hornet?
 
GR told people a long time ago that Shaq was holding Kobe back from being the best he can be. The Lakers should have been built around Kobe not Shaq. Shaq is not a dedicated player and you cant depend on him. Therefore you have to build your franchise around someone that loves basketball. Shaq had a "piece of garbage" mentality. He would come to camp out of shape with no off season training to get ready for the season.

The downfall of the Laker dynasty was Shaqs dumb ass not getting his toe operated on right after the 3rd championship in June. Instead he chose to get his toe operated on in October, a week before the season. The Buss' should have traded is sorry ass right then.

Congrats to Kobe, but if the truth be told Chris Paul could make a claim to that award just like Kobe. My thoughts are if Steve Nash and Dirk can win it, then CP3 deserves it as well with all he has done this year. If the Lakers had not picked up Gasol, Kobe would be home with me drinking that new Bud Lite with the Lime in it; discussing how J-State is going to bust these Sucka's in the SWAC's head to the white meat in football. Mark my words, Kobe getting that award might be all the motivation the "Baby Face Assassian" need to bring the title home to the "N. O." I can't wait.

Nice try, but CP3 aint Kobe. Nice player, be he aint no Kobe Bryant. Only Kobe Bryant is Kobe Bryant. He should keep up the good work though. He aint that lil frenchie guy are playing very well. GR is very interested in watching that series.

Styles, kendrick had a major mental lapse by claiming that Raja Bell shut down Kobe. Little did he know that Kobe averaged 30 points per game in that series and was double and triple teamed most of the time.:emlaugh:

The MVP is voted on for regular season. What happens to you in the playoffs don't count. Same in any sport. In that case then David Robinson needs to give his back to Olajuwon for that debacle back when the Spurs played the Rockets in the mid 90s. That was worse than what happened to Dirk. Olajuwon embarrassed Big Dave. LOL.

Congrats to Kobe....he was a deserving player this year, although the same could be said for Chris Paul.

People fail to realize that the MVP has historically gone to the best player on one of the best teams in the league. The last two years, the Lakers were not on of the best teams in the NBA. If they were, Kobe would have won the MVP.

It had nothing to do with voters "hating" on Kobe or them not giving him the award because of the fight in Detroit. Just go back and look at the last 10 MVP winners and you will see that all of them were players who were part of teams that had one of the best records in the league.

The Mavs had the best record in the West last year so Dirk won the MVP. The Lakers had the best record in the West this season and Kobe won the award. It's always been that way. When was the last time a player won the MVP and his team was in the middle of the pack or at the bottom of the conference?
