Kobe Bryant earns first MVP

People fail to realize that the MVP has historically gone to the best player on one of the best teams in the league. The last two years, the Lakers were not on of the best teams in the NBA. If they were, Kobe would have won the MVP.

It had nothing to do with voters "hating" on Kobe or them not giving him the award because of the fight in Detroit. Just go back and look at the last 10 MVP winners and you will see that all of them were players who were part of teams that had one of the best records in the league.

The Mavs had the best record in the West last year so Dirk won the MVP. The Lakers had the best record in the West this season and Kobe won the award. It's always been that way. When was the last time a player won the MVP and his team was in the middle of the pack or at the bottom of the conference?

Kobe lovers will never understand that...:retard:

Someone hate Kobe because they stupid enough not to recognize Jordan is the greatest of all time?

:smh:...how can you be better than the person you're trying to be like...when you haven't accomplished half the things the person you're trying to emulate?

Separate Kobe the man from the name. Tell me, when you LOOK @ the stuff this guy does, how can you NOT name him as the greatest ever?

The ONLY reason Jordan became "great" was because someone gave him a dictionary and highlighted the word "PASS" and he saw this:

17. to convey from one person, hand, etc., to another

He FINALLY understood that the rock was to be a shared resource amongst the other 4 teammmates. :emlaugh: :bawling: :emlaugh:

I think maybe when Kobe is done playing in the NBA he will be among the greatest to ever play the game. But not right now. Don't get me wrong, Kobe has put up some great numbers, but he's played 12 years in the NBA and just now won his first MVP. Kobe has yet to lead a team to a championship without Shaq (the best center of this generation) or win an NBA Finals MVP.

Kobe Bryant is a fantastic player, but he's far from the best ever at this point. And even when Kobe gets done playing, he probably still won't be the best ever because LeBron James has another 10-12 years left to prove his case.

I love Kobe's passion for basketball and I love the way he plays, but he still has a lot to accomplish before we can say he's the best basketball player ever. In order to be the greatest, Kobe has to play at a level that no one has seen before or can compare it to.

Cuz, most of the stuff he's done, Ive seen it before....and, his name was Jordan.

Maybe, Ive missed something over the years...but, what has Kobe done that Jordan hasn't?

Well....you asked for it.....
81 points; most three pointers made in one game (12). Nine consecutive three pointers in one game; most free throws made in one quarter (14); youngest slam dunk champion; youngest to score 20,000 points; youngest player named to NBA All Defensive team!!!! Next.....

Um...Jayrob..

You and all other NBA folks are going to hafta disqualify the "youngest to do" tag that Kobe has...simply because KOBE CAME OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL...and just like Lebron and Kevin Garnett..had a three-year head start on Jordan and the rest of the league in NBA statistics....

If you look at it..Kobe began hitting his stride around his fourth season...if he woulda went to Dook, like it was rumored, that would've been his rookie NBA season at least.

THANK GOD FOR THE AGE LIMIT IN THE NBA NOW...no more Darius Mileses, Corleone Youngs, etc. But Jay, that's not against Kobes..

also...Devin Ham got robbed in that dunk contest...lol....

However, I still defer all "greatest basketball player of all time" label to my boy Wilt Chamberlain...can you imagine how dominant Wilt would've been nowadays?

Finally, someone brought up Wilt. Thank God.

1. The league change the lane because of him.
2. The man average 37.7 points a game his first nine seasons in the league and averaged 50 points a game in his third season. For his career, Chamberlain average 30 and 22.
3. Oh, and he scored 100 points in a game.

I think Kobe has quite away to go before he can be considered the greatest ever.

How can you penalize the man for being greater than Jordan while Jordan was in college? Maybe Jordan should've opted for the NBA just like Kobe did. It's not Kobe's fault that Jordan didn't believe he could cut it right out of high school to the NBA.

Chamberlain is a Laker, but still he only played against mostly shorter White guys while in his prime. Also, defenses were not as sophisticated as they are today. Ain't no way in hades he would average those numbers today, especially with his poor free throw shooting.

1. If I remember right Chamberlain played for Philadelphia before coming to the Lakers.

2. Wilt was not even in his prime when he averaged 50 points a game. He was 25. A few years away from his prime.

3. Wilt was 7-1. There were quite a few 7-footers in the NBA back then. Not just short white guys.

4. Oh, he played against Bill Russell and Bob Pettit (NBA HOF). Since there was no expansion, Wilt matched up against those players more often than Shaq ever did against Robinson, Hakeem, Ewing and Duncan.

5. HOW MUCH REAL DEFENSE IS PLAYED IN THE NBA TODAY? Kobe and the Lakers ran though a team in Denver that did not care about playing defense at all. There are only a handful of team in the league today that plays actual defense.

If Wilt were in the NBA right now he'd be the best center in the league. He wouldn't avg 50 and 20 though.

:smh:...All irrelevant....

Po JayRob...:smh: Don't you realize Kobe (and the many supposed Jordan heirs AKA Baby Jordans) wouldn't have the game they had without watching Jordan?...:xeye: Folks gravitate to Kobe, because he's the closest to watching Jordan right now. Same game, same position, size, physique, tongue-hang'n, manorisms on and off the court, etc.

You represent JSt....so, here's an attendance example/question....
If you had a game with Jordan in his prime...and, a game with Kobe in his, both on the same night, in the same city, same time...which game do you think would yield a better draw?

Jordan changed the culture, style, the image of the game inside and out (not only shoes....but, marketing basketball, clothing line, holding professional press conferences, movies, music videos, etc), and made it "mandatory" to play and stay above the rim. Kobe ain't done that....no matter how you slice it.

...he!!, he has to win one without Shaq, first.

Bob Pettit and Bill Russell? Those are just two names. Just think if Chamberlain had played against players night in and night out like Hakeem, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Moses Malone, Kareem, Robert Parish, Shaq, and others. No way would those guys nor their coach allow a player to average 50 points. You think hack-a-Shaq was bad, Wilt would've been worse. The guy had NO jump shot at all.

If Jordan, who most claim to be the greatest player of all time couldn't do it, are you saying Wilt would do what Jordan couldn't?

...All irrelevant....
......

Dude, didn't YOU, yes...YOU ask folks to name something Kobe's done that Jordan hasn't?! After I did, you then call it irrelevant?:emlaugh:

When has Jordan done ANY of those things I listed Kobe as doing?! If they were irrelevant, they wouldn't be in the NBA history archives.:swink:

Yes...cuz, it is.

My mistake for thinking you'd hit at something with some substance to the conversation at hand. I should've been more specific, I guess...

"Most 3's in a game?"..."Youngest slam dunk champ?"...:retard::xeye::smh:...You gotta be isht'n me.....:lol: :lol:

This is :smh: In the grand scheme of things...how does "9 3's straight" mark greatness? Or, any of the other "irrelevant" stats you thru up there?

Your boy's greatness has him 3 Rings (none without Shaq) and 3 MVP's behind Jordan. See how I pointed something out that was relevant to a "greatness" conversation?

Like Shaq had a jumper. Remember, the NBA changed rules because of Wilt Chamberlain.

How did the Raptors allow Kobe to score 81 points in a game if the defenses are so sophisticated? The only defense you say that could contain Wilt would be to hack him.

And it's not like there is a deep pool of talented centers in the NBA today. Outside of Dwight Howard and Yao, how many dominate centers are there in the NBA? Wilt would have dominated today.

People also forget how great of an ATHLETE Wilt was..Wilt was a track and field ALL AMERICAN also...wilt wasn't no lumbering giant...He was an agile big man that can run.

But Jay...nobody's penalizing Kobe because of the landscape of the game. I'm simply saying that "youngest to do ..." line the ESPN guys throw out with LeBron and Kobe is kinda bogus because they started their careers WAYYYYYY EARLIER than Jordan and those older guys.

And by the way JayRob...Jordan left North Carolina after sweeping the Naismith and Wooden Award (meaning he was the consensus college player of the year) in 1984 AND helping lead the 1984 Olympic team to a gold medal in Los Angeles....He was also the ACC's freshman of the year

and only Wilt, Kareem and George Mikan averaged more points as a rookie than Mike Jordan...

I won't even bother to list all of the things MJ has done that Kobe hasn't because that would be unfair to you and Kobe.

MJ and Bill Russell are the two Greatest Players of All Times.

How would that be unfair to me? I never said Kobe was better than Jordan to begin with, even though he might be in some areas.
Dude, Bill Russell was 6'9. Olajuwon would've dominated Russell as would Kareem and Moses Malone.

Yes...cuz, it is.

Dude you didn't think folks could come up with anything, but since we did, you want to discredit it. How can you discredit one man scoring 81 points? Are you crazy? Who else has scored 81 points in an NBA game besides Kobe and Wilt? Who?

And how many rings did Jordan get WITHOUT Pippen?! ZERO!!

Kobe didn't average....I repeat, average 50 points a game. The 81 was a one time thing, and I didn't say the ONLY defense that could contain Wilt was to Hack him. That's only one way to slow him down.

Wilt wouldn't have dominated today or in the eighties because there are too many double team defenses designed to force centers to give up the ball or shoot jumpers, which he didn't have; there are zones, there's the three second rule, plus he would have to play defense against much quicker players than the White boys he played against in the sixties and seventies.

You couldn't name but two decent centers Wilt played against in his day, and both were under seven feet tall.
