So are you suggesting we build a bootleg high school stadium like Crews?
sounds to me like everyone is in their feelings because they don't want us to build the nicest stadium in the conference.
Regardless of how bootleg you think it will be, it will SHIT on Crews for damn sure
Dome or No Dome. That's a fact.
But carry on

Like I said, Meyers ain't said a word and folks all "rolled" up lol
Over an article that's not 100% correct smh

Well the Birmingham Dome's cost was 440 million for a 57k seat dome... and that was in 2007... estimated cost now would be between 600 and 700 million.

It all depends on the amenities. Birningham wanted to build an NFL type dome. That's doesn't appear to be what Jackson's aiming for. It could well be along the lines of the dome North Dakota currently plays in. Their 25,000 seat domed stadium was built in 1990 costing 48 million dollars which equates to 80 million in 2013 dollars.

The Fargodome is an indoor athletic stadium in Fargo, North Dakota, on the campus of North Dakota State University. Opened in late 1992, the facility is owned by the City of Fargo, built on university land. Its seating capacity is 19,000 for football and over 25,000 for full arena concerts.

It is the home field of the NDSU Bison football team, which competes in NCAA Division I, in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Fargodome contains two scoreboards on each endzone, four large video screens (one in each corner), two large electronic message centers below the scoreboards, as well as four stats boards (two centered on each sideline) all of which were installed by Daktronics in 2002. Prior to the 1993 season, the Bison played at Dacotah Field.
The NDSU band plays in the stands
The stadium also plays host to many large concerts, sporting events, and trade shows.

The Fargodome has held events such as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, USHRA's Monster Jam, Rib Fest, WWE, WCW, the Asics Cadet and Junior National Wrestling Championships and many local, regional and national events.

In 2011, the Fargodome was ranked as the 49th best stadium in college football.[4] The article cites, "There aren't many indoor venues in college football, but the few that do exist at the non-FBS level are very unfriendly to any visiting team. That effect is only amplified in a playoff atmosphere." The Fargodome is routinely ranked as one of the loudest college football stadiums in the country. On December 10, 2011 in a game against Lehigh Mountain Hawks football, the crowd noise was measured at 111 decibels, comparable to when the New Orleans Saints play in the Superdome. During the 2011 playoffs, the decibel level exceeded 130 decibels several times.[5][6] The Fargodome is sometimes called the "Thunderdome" by opposing teams.

To be honest, I was thinking it would be along these lines. Now this is greatly feasible than the conventional dome.

but you also realize the Fargo Dome doesnt have any luxury pressboxes which would generate more money. They have your basic media press boxes. Thats what I mean when I say bootleg... take the entire dome out of the situation and you could have a VERY NICE open air stadium for the money thats being put into the project.

How do you know if this dome won't include skyboxes? There is approximately 40 million extra to play with. It's highly unlikely that a dome would be built with no skyboxes. Besides, the Fargodome doesn't appear to be a bootleg dome simply because there are no skyboxes. It's a quality dome that meets the needs of it's constituents and generates revenue for the city.

The stadium already has a buyer who is ready to take over the land...that information wont be released until the deal is done but every one familiar with Memorial knows who is ready to tear it down.....

The only buyers I see are investors for the UofM Medical Center expansion and it's hard for me to believe they are going to buy that site for a substantial amount of money, maybe $5 million at the most.

Also, it's really hard for me to believe jsu would be able to sell enough land to cover half of the cost of the proposed stadium, which is $100 million.

Funds Needed: $100,000,000.00
Average Cost per Acre (assumed value): $100,000.00
Required Acreage: 1,000 acres
Square Foot per Acre: 43,560 sq.ft./acre
Required Square Footage: 43,560,000 sq.ft. (6,600 ft. x 6,600 ft.)

All I can say, that is like 1/2 of the total Jackson downtown area, which is a lot of land.

I love how folk are shooting down the stadium without a stitch of details. They pulling out pie graphs and power points for all the cons. Gotta love it.

They will not be able to secure the funds/bonds/contributions to secure a 50,000 domed seat stadium.

Just asking realistic questions, which is what you jsu fans should be asking before y'all find yourself homeless. There's way too many details before any deal that is worth over $200 million is finalized and selling enough land to cover $100 million is one of those details.

From the renderings I've seen, it'll expand campus towards downtown. Where it's slated to be built, that side will be an athletic complex with all sports teams facilities in that one area. We're just building out from the baseball, softball and soccer fields.

I don't give a damn where it's built!!! I just pray it comes to fruition!!! This is good because then we can persuade the SWAC to move the championship to Jackson which is a centered place.

The sad part is that there are people who hope this will fail...:smh:

Who in this thread wish it fails? There is a difference between wishing it fails and not seeing a realistic deal.

I don't think no one is hoping that this would fail, but I do see some people looking at this from a realistic perspective. Mississippi total population is approx. 2.9 million and you are going to ask them to come up with $200 million to help jsu build a dome stadium. Black folks make up approximately 37% of the population, which is approx. 1.0 million people. I really think it's going to be really hard to sell.

Not if one also mention that it could be used for other events such as high school football, basketball and soccer games and tournaments or concerts, etc. Shoot, you never know that building could host a or a lower-tier bowl game. If a bowl game can be played at Legion Field in B-Ham, why couldn't a bowl game be played in a 50,000-seat dome in Jackson?

You are right, because the Independence Bowl is played in Independence Stadium, which only seats 53,000, but it sounds like the primary tenant would be jsu.

This is my point: you don't know what's being questioned or by whom. You don't know a single detail to be pulling out population stats or any other stat to come to any conclusion. All you know is JSU is proposing a dome at a cost. Yet you have doomed the project to failure. I'd rather wait.

A couple of things...

First: As I read some of the questions posted in this thread, it has become VERY clear that some of you didn't bother to read the article written in the Free Press. If you had, you wouldn't be asking said questions. PLEASE take a moment to READ the article BEFORE asking questions.

Second: Based on what has been reported up to this point, it is clear (to me) that some thought has gone into this plan. There is still a ways to go, but this plan (based on what has been REPORTED) is not far fetched and is doable.

And finally, I for one hope you J-State folks pull it off. I was happy to see Bama State complete its stadium project and would be happy for J-State to pull this project off as well. While there is still a lot to do, I can't see the State of Mississippi, the City of Jackson, UMC, and any other party involved not seeing the upside to something like this long term.

Again, good luck!

Okay, we'll wait, but in the real world, most people see situations such as this one a little different and population has a lot do with this project, since state tax dollars would be involved. Last I checked and like most southern states, Mississppi is a red state, which means most citizens are totally against raising taxes for government funded projects.

And I would think the brain trust behind the project has considered what you speak of. Again, you act like these folk just had a dream and called a press conference.

Not at all, if Southern was proposing a project on that scale, I'll be asking the same questions, especially if it involved leaving the current location that would allow another state school to expand.

I get your point, but you gotta be mindful of who you're asking. None of us posters are in any committee to get this done. Some of us may know some details (and some do), but none are at liberty to discuss them with y'all. Especially not on TSPN. Details will be released very soon. Then you can analyze it all you want.

Is there a reason why details are to remain secret about this project?
