Jackson State at Tulane in 2013?

This converstaion went from JSU vs Tulane to Mississippi not being this to not being that and it chokes me up. I have been to every school in the conference following my beloved Golden Lions and I must say some of you guys are living in a fairy tail. OK Alabamaians lol have you heard of Gordo on 82 that entire stretch from the Mississippi state line up untill you reach Tuscaloosa is a complete mess when it comes to racism omg and if not for A State being in Montgomery it would not be what it is now. Louisiana once you past I 20 going away from BR and NO what do you have on the other side of Monroe a mess thats what Tenneesse come on now Nashville in its self tells the story. Ok now I'm not saying by far that Mississippi is the best but one better believe its not what you have been taught to believe.

I live in the Mississippi Delta where it was once a fool but things are turning around slowly, I know because I'm still here the one thing that completly holds this state back is the lack of jobs. They will tell you its the work force but thats not true its jobs where there are no jobs there will be problems and we have those. Take Cleveland MS for example two high schools but they are seperated by the old railroad track, one is all black ESH and the other is 50/50 CHS now this town has lost jobs because of the two high schools and the population is only 16,000 or so give or take. There is a full service university here Delta State with three other school withing 40 miles Valley, MDCC, CCC and what happens when a degree is recieved that 40% of the individuals get on down and go somewhere else because there are no jobs and the pay is not the best of the 50 states especially in the education field. But is that to say the people are non educated, lazy, etc negative all states have there down falls and if not for certain cities in those states most of them would be Mississippi if not worst My state just catch hell from top to bottom and yet still we cant keep you guys out of it or off your minds.

I don't know why y'all let these Alabama and Louisiana folks get y'all riled up about Mississippi. The blacks in either of those states aren't doing any better than the blacks in Mississippi.

Certain regions of each of the states do better than others. I say that as a native MS. It is what it is. The politics in Ms has kept us out of getting a lot of stuff. La Politics is so crooked, but it has gotten them some things over the years because they are willing to do business that way(lol). Plus the Chemical/Oil and Gas industry helps the Southern region of La prosper. Alabama, I hate to say it. It is doing better than our home state. Huntsville emergence has really helped them. Businesses are looking to move there big time now. They just have more bigger cities than we do. When the state let Jackson fall down (with the help of our own folks) it really put a black eye on the state. Your state capital can't be suffering. As much as we talk isht on this board. It is no reason for Baton Rouge to be doing better than my hometown. But it is. Jindal or no Jindal, there are more jobs in BR than Jackson. I hate to admit it. But it is true. Even though all three states have republican governors. They all seem to do things a little differently. Jindal has been bad for La no doubt. But the Govs of Ms have not done isht, but keep certain rich white families rich.

Now we are all in the same boat when it comes to National cred. Most folks in the rest of the country already look down on certain areas of the South. Florida, Ga and Texas get passes because of their big cities. Atlanta carries Ga and makes the state look better than it probably should. But the perception of La, Alabama, and Ms is about the same to a certain degree. Unfortunately our politicians in Ms don't try to change the perception. I really don't think any of them really want the state to be top notch. They are afraid if we do too good, that means more blacks with money. Since the SIP has more black folks per capita than any state, I have always felt the white politicians never tried to get the SIP on the move to keep us poor. Each state has it demons as any state does in the US. The Midwest states are falling apart too. Michigan and Illinois are shells of their former selves.

Now Cee is right about one thing. We are all country. Throw Arkansas, Tn, SC in there with the rest of the South. LOL. All states have the good and bad. I wish the SIP could shed some of its history. Because it is not like it was in the 60s. We just should be farther ahead than we are now.

JR, how has the gaming industry impacted MS. Over the years, I have passed through Pascagoula, Biloxi, and Gulfport to get home. It seems like the roads have gotten much better for one thing. However, I'm not sure of the impact gaming has had on Mississippi.

The gaming industry has helped certain areas. In particular the Tunica-Robinsonville area by Memphis, the Coast(Biloxi-Gulfport) and the area by Philadelphia has grown tremendously. Tunica area was once one of the poorest areas in the COUNTRY, but that has changed. As far as Greenville, Vicksburg and Natchez it has brought jobs but not the impact that the state planned. The casinos in Greenville hurts the city, because no jobs are there and when people get money they piss it off on those slots smh

Not trying to hijack the Sports Board with a Small Talk topic...Trust me, no rebuttal here. That's looking at the overall states. Then the question should be asked, what is having all of that doing for the black community, or HBCUs in those states? That's why its funny to hear others talk about the 'Sip.

Interesting, it seems like they're always buliding something around that Biloxi-Gulfport area. I love stopping in Gulfport and hitting that Cajun/Creole buffet in the casino close to the corner of where hwy 49 meet the Gulf of Mexico. That food is always on point. I am not much for gambling though but will hit the black jack table once in a blue moon.

I couldn't have said it better than JR put it because it's all true. To add on to what he said, it's not only the white politicians that want to keep the rich rich (and the poor poor) but the black ones as well who are only looking out for themselves and the black people who put them in office suffer. I'll keep on talking about Hollywood Bennie Thompson until he is exposed. F him :lol He bragging about the Toyota plant in Tupelo (Blue Springs) but every county in the Delta had a 10-20% population drop from 2000-2010 (Cleveland is the only major town in the Delta that actually grew. Greenwood and Greenville lost thousands of people). As JR said, when a lot of people get their degrees from DSU (and Valley... heck even MDCC when they get those nursing licenses) they leave and a lot of them don't come back.

Casinos. Yeah Tunica (and Robinsonville) are nothing like they were when I was younger when I visited the area. It was like a scene out of Africa. Now with those 9 casinos up there (that and the growth of Desoto County) have completely changed how it was up there. Same with Philadelphia/Choctaw. It was growing like crazy when I first down there in 2003 and it grew even more by 2008-2009. Same with the Gulf Coast casinos (they came back stronger with an extra casino after Katrina)

What hurts Greenville is the fact that a lot of people are not gonna drive from the non-Delta part of LA to gamble. Tunica has the Memphis metro area to draw from as well as southern MO and northern Alabama.

I can really say how Desoto County has changed. having family members in Hornlake, Hernado, Olive branch, I have seen wonders in the last 10 years. I mean every time I go I am just amazed at how it has changed. Jobs are truly a way to over coming poverty. I go back to the days when areas like Troup county, West Point and Lagrange, Ga had no industries but the paper mill when my grand daddy worked at West Point Pepper Mill.
