I'm sorry MVSU, but...

We pay our head coaches some of the steepest salaries in FCS. It’s time for TV deals to help athletic budgets on the front end.
The commissioner has nothing to do with how much an individual school pays its football coach. That is the responsibility of the school's president and AD.

PV still had a strong track program when the streak started as jacket coached the olympic team- that helped them sustain the blow

I agree Valley shouldn’t drop down. Budgets aren’t great a lot of places. This is the time we should be side eying our commissioner and asking why he has not landed us a forward moving TV deal for our brands that can put millions of dollars in our institutions budgets. We pay our head coaches some of the steepest salaries in FCS. It’s time for TV deals to help athletic budgets on the front end. P4 is doing it. I know we’re not them. But, we can be trend setters and get ahead of the curve in FCS. We have Grambling , Jackson , FAMU, Southern , & Alcorn these brands and fan bases alone are worth a lot of money we aren’t capitalizing on at the negotiation table.
Alcorn!!! Alcorn!! Same folks can't pull 15K for homecoming?

I understand that. However, Coaches and ADs have gotten with the times of where today’s Coaching Salaries currently are to be competitive. I believe our commissioner has to do his part to negotiate forward thinking and better deals moving forward for the conference in ways every institution can be able to profit from on a yearly basis. I think meeting with the presidents to develop an infrastructural plan for institutions that don’t currently have it is essential. This could help athletic budgets across the board including Valley. Our commissioner is responsible for tv and streaming deals. But we can’t be afraid to hear no. There are streaming and tv deals out there who will throw the money. TNT is losing the NBA in 2025. They’re trying to replace millions of dollars they’re losing out on from the NBA not being on their network anymore. This is one example of many streaming and TV deals I believe the SWAC can benefit in my humble opinion.

Yeah but they're not a draw. Look at how their fans travel or when they are on the schedule. Does it driver the attendance?
I don’t disagree on the attendance point. Alcorn is a head scratcher when it comes to their fans and attendance. Of course they’ll come out for a Jackson State and Southern. The years they won the SWAC championship, the attendance was there. McNair makes them a brand. Fan base wise, they’ve had a pulse. I think near the end of Fred’s tenure fans got turned off. I think this weekend against southern should be a packed house. But, we’ll have to see how many of those are actually Alcorn fans.

Nope, I was told last night (by a SWAC coach) that the MVSU football team is currently playing with 61 scholarships (2 below the maximum) and has been playing with 58 for the past 3 seasons.

I assure you and everyone else that MVSU will kick PV's teeth down its throat in a few weeks. Just give it a hot second.

The only way I see Valley being good for the conference is padded wins for others. Aint no way yall think them being in the SWAC actually means much, outside of the few Totten/Rice years which was 40 years ago. Let them folk go D2 in peace.

It's definitely an institutional call. In the final analysis, it is Valley that has to live with their decisions and navigate what and where they are comfortable. As quiet as it's kept, many HBCU administrators see athletics as a liability but a necessary evil. If the COPS nor the commissioner is pushing for it, then you're wasting your time and energy. I once felt Valley should move on but have changed my mind and feel now that it's no one's journey but MVSU. If they're paying their bills and showing up on time for games, I simply don't care.

Men's basketball can pay only so many bills - but overall their pay scale, lack of competitiveness across the board and the struggle to attract personnel is a reason to do so like Tennessee state's tenure in the OVC

He doesn’t have a case so that would be a waste. Would definitely be entertaining for sure. Can’t wait to watch
He’s doing what others would’ve done defend his school!! Remember where JSU was at one time and you defended your school

Where JSU was for a few years compared to where Valley is and has been (his and your entire life) isn’t a real comparison. We’ve always fulfilled all of our coaches salaries and been able to have our full alotment of scholarships. We’ve also been a major part of this conference as we have the second most Championships behind Gram since 1958. You can’t compete where you can’t compare.

This kinda gives me the same vibes as someone in Madison or Rankin Co. complaining about Jackson.
I just don't get the logic lol. I get that you all don't care about anything but the Celebration Bowl... but I've just never understood not, at the least, caring about actually being competitive. it's stuff like that as to why the SWAC is constantly rated as one of the worst conferences in FCS. I do not get what you get out of having athletics just for the sole purpose of having them with no actual intention of being good. Hell Vanderbilt even wins games that matter every now and then. The even more ironic part is no one caring about the fact that they just sacrifice the athletes to the Gods year in and year out in those money games. How does anyone enjoy this... especially their fans?

I don't see how them playing in a conference with the likes of Albany State, Kentucky State, etc. would be a bad thing for their program. At least their fans would actually get to see wins. Half those teams in the SIAC would probably beat them too. People tend to forget that college football is basically a business. WSSU and SSU realized that FCS just wasn't financially viable for them and went to where it made sense. And they were better off than Valley... at least WSSU was.

I hear you. Just saying you really can't do anything about it unless you're involved financially or by some form of effort.

Valley is not holding the conference back....The SWAC as a whole, not being very competitive (in any sport) outside of the conference is keeping the conference rated low in the FCS ranks. So, all of us have contributed to the low perception of the SWAC outside of the HBCU landscape.
