I hope he does do his thing.

Make my words though the year after next will be a BANNER year for the SWAC in the draft (Aries Nelson, Tyrone Timmons, Shang Moore, Tyler Knight, Nate Hughes, Charlie Spiller, and etc....)

The SWAC has some talent.

I hope you're not saying Aries Nelson is NFL material. Same thing goes for Shang Moore.

I am saying they are, both of them have 2 more years of playing to develop even more, dude get the hate out of your heart. A man that came a couple weeks before the start of the season and still got SWAC NEWCOMER of the Year and still didn't know the whole playbook? Just think about whe he gets comfortable, man please it's gonna be ugly for folks secondary.

Dude I'm not hating on Valley. I'm just going off what i know. Nelson is a nice SWAc QB, but he's far from being an NFL caliber QB.

You forgot about the best wr. in the SWAC. James Vernon.

I won't argue that he's the best in the SWAC, but sometimes that doesn't always translate to what the pros consider.

Vernon is not listed among the top NFL prospects in I-AA. The main knock is his size, and consequently, his durability.

Over the years I have seen many players come thru the SWAC . I have seen great players and great SWAC players. JV is a great player and when he graduated from high school was rated the best wr coming out by several sources. Some time when players come to HBCU's they are not hyped like players going to major colleges. I think him not being ranked has a lot to due with him not participating in spring practice because of minor knee sugery. The scouts also do not have a 40 time on him.

There is no question about Mathis 40 time. 4.25 at the combine with tape wraped around hamstring. Image what his time would be if his hamstring was not sore. Mathis will give the NFL trouble and they will find out why the MEAC is glad to see him gone.

In my opinion James Vernon is no where close to being the best WR in the SWAC.
James Vernon was hurt during the Bayou Classic. If you guys would have saw a healthy JV you would have been a believer. He played hurt all season but had a knee injury during the Alcorn game. Just check his stats prior to the Alcorn game. He was leading the Swac in every recieving category. Ask J-State about him. That was his last game that he was healthy.

I saw the McNeese and South Dakota & Valley games, I saw him last year. My statement remains the same. Besides who else was Rickedy going to throw to?

Those were early season games before our offense really got to clicking. What swac reciever you think is better. Please don't say Spiller. All he can do is catch the deep ball. Do I need to mail you the J-State tape.

Bottomline Spiller can catch. The essence of being a receiver is to catch. So you are saying that just because he happens tom catch the long ball means he can't catch a short one

These receivers, scheduled to play in 2005 are better than Vernon in my opinion:

Spiller
Edwards
Hughes
Abney
Tolbert

Even Cletis Gordon is a better receiver than Vernon. He is good, but not the best.

So, who's gonna' be pre-season SWAC #1 and #2?

They will Probably pick Spiller and Vernon. SWAC 2004 Preseason 1st team receiver Moses Harris is returning after a season ending preseason injury. The safe picks will be Spiller and Vernon. Just like the safe pick for 1st team QB will be T. Jackson from Bama. Carrie, Ricks are gone. The only QB's left are Landers and Nelson.

I am not sure that Vernon is "the best" receiver in the SWAC. However, I am sure that there are not 5 receivers in the conference better than him. Personally, If I had to choose the top receiver, Vernon would be my guy. Not only does he have great hands but he is a threat to score any time he touches the ball and has blazing speed. If S.U. offense stay healthy through out the season, we are capable of beating EVERY team on the schedule. The one thing that I believe S.U. needs to do is get better on defense. NO ONE on the schedule will stop S.U. offense barring large amounts of injuries. All of you all will get a good dose of Huff, Steele, Bryant, Vernon, Overstreet and Joseph among others (yea we rolling like that  ). The QB core is the most heralded and deep as I have seen in years. The offensive line will be quite formidable.

The Revolution WILL be televised!

Wow...you think Verson has "GREAT HANDS"

Vernon missed like four games due to injury. If not for that he would have led in all recieving catagorys. Before the injury he was head and shoulders above everyone on the field and the stats. No reciever in the swac can run in the open field like Vernon. Ask Cletis. What I was saying about Spiller is that he can only run fly routes. That the only balls he catches are bombs. Vernon is also a real dangerous return man but due to him being our best reciever and the focal point of our offense Pete didn't often let him return kicks. You really need to see the tape of the J-state game.

You also have to realize that SU had more than Vernon and we just didn't force feed him the ball like some other teams did their recievers.

For Alcorn Spiller is the deep threat, Hughes is the underneath guy. The same can be said for Vernon..all he catches are the shorter routes. Again I am not saying he is not good receiver. Vernon had more dropped balls than Spiller.

After missing 4 games due to injury. Vernon is clearly the biggest threat at WR. He catches mainly short routes but I've seen him on fly routes too.
