Grambling petitions (NCAA) to remove Joe Paterno wins record

I don't roll with stupidity.

However, it would be impossible for anyone with a relationship to Grambling State (or any school for that matter) to play morality cops when more than likely their own schools had its own share of past transgressions as well.

Heck, Grambling State just rehired Patricia Bibbs. The same woman who in the mid-90s committed so many NCAA violations during her first stint that the women's basketball SWAC championship was stripped from the team. Why wasn't Breedlove and the mayor up in arms over that since they care about morality and character so much?

And the whole idea of taking winning seriously is the reason why coaches break rules or feel they can get away with breaking the rules. Everyone associated with college athletics (fans, alums, boosters, media) contribute to this.

We care too much about winning, records and bragging rights whether we support Grambling State or Penn State. We've given these programs and people way too much power with our undying reverence for them.

And now a city government official is getting into this act. There are far greater injustices than a college football wins record to tackle (no pun intended).

These people are in same boat as those morons at Penn State guarding and weeping over the Joe Paterno statue
.

Must be election year or something cause for him/her to bring this up was really dumb and embarassing. She/he needs to focus on Grambling's struggling economy and fans not showing up for games.

True. Most do when they disagree with JayRob.:emlaugh:

Nah, I lost cause ya'll "hard of understanding". LOL But that's cool, the TP bandwagon on logical thinking is picking up. I have about 3-4 votes since I waved the white flag. If TP says it, it's right. You just don't get it yet.

There are rules in place. They are called lack of institutional control and to be honest, the way that Paterno is revered around there, I am sure that MANY kids were sent that way just to play for him. That in itself could be considered an advantage. What if he was fired and replaced with some Rodriguez-esqe coach?

But this scandal didn't involve student athletes. It didn't even involve university students. And it can't be proven that Penn State had a competitive advantage because of this scandal. The NCAA has no jurisdiction in this case.

So you don't consider Paterno, 1-As winningest coach, coming into your living room to recruit you a competitive advantage?

Most of all, I just feel that Paterno should not be rewarded for this cover up. He may have made a mistake that he later regretted but he had to keep covering it up to make sure he stayed on that sideline because he and everyone around him knew that he would be forced to step down as soon as this came out. So I may not be looking at it the right way in terms of NCAA violations but I don't see how it's right to let him keep wins that he got from a cover-up. As soon as this thing blew up, he was gone. Somehow it happened a week after he broke the record.

Robinson needs to be #1 in 1-AA and Division one overall and Bowden needs to be #1 in 1-A. I ain't about to reward no one for covering up something to win a record. Where they do that at?

1. Why does Eddie Robinson need to be No. 1?

2. Didn't the NCAA strip Bowden of wins because he was using ineligible players due to an academic fraud scheme within the FSU athletic program? Wouldn't he be rewarded if Paterno's wins were taken away even though he was involved in chicanery?

3. Even after Penn State fired Joe Paterno for his role in the scandal, the football team was able to land the third best recruiting class in the Big Ten. And even some of the incoming freshmen said they signed with Penn State in part due to the scandal, and will use this situation as motivation for the upcoming season.

The Grambling city attorney, in concert with Mayor Edward Jones, has sent a letter to the NCAA asking the college athletics governing body to vacate some of Penn State coach Joe Paterno's wins in order to restore the Division I football victories record to Grambling State's Eddie Robinson.

Pamela Breedlove of Bossier City sent a three page letter to the NCAA on Wednesday, explaining the city's position regarding Robinson, who won 408 games in his 57-year career at Grambling State.

easy here,

It's funny how things old easy stated months ago about Eddie getting his record back....Now it's in motion to do that......Easy has great intentions however, folks should pay attention more to the facts in detail......I knew Joe Papa was guilty of hiding the truth and yes...I really think that Penn State should wipe hteir hands clean of what he did on the field .....Protecting a pediphile is the worst.......

You ain't smart enough to understand a person with a Georgia Tech degree.

I really don't get what you all are not getting about this.. and Southsuburbs.. hush up. I know I lost this battle but it's only becasue I am smarter than most. They/u can't see what's right in front of your face.

If I didn't know better I would think that you were trying to insulate me with a Ga Tech joke about their degree/education. But I'm smart enough to know that is not what you mean.

As long as the University stays out of this mess.

The university doesn't need to stay out of this! Eddie Robinson won all of his games from the field and never would have let somthing like this happen. You better believe that if this was Eddie going through this at the moment, the NCAA would take away his victories, drop the football program at Grambling, and put more than one person in jail. Joe Paterno broke the record by allowing little boys to get screwed and sitting in the press box with no headset. (As he did for a few games.) "Those people" would have let Paterno coach his team from the hospital while watching the game from a TV in order to knock a black coach off the list of being the most winningest coach in division I. I don't care if Eddie Robinson coached at Jackson State, Southern, Alcorn and any other SWAC school, the man should keep his record because, unilke Paterno, he earned it from the field. I am shocked the every single SWAC school is not standing together on this! As much as I hate to say this, the MEAC would have done more if it was one of there coaches. Oh well.

I support free speech even if it doesn't make sense. So you want to gain wins for Grambling off the backs of rape victims? You want to make this about SWAC schools coming together over this?
What's it supposed to accomplish for the victims? Nothing, but Grambling will get it's accolades. so that makes it okay?

Coach Rob will always be a historical figure due to his wins so taking wins away from Penn State still won't validate what either coach did. Even if they take the wins from Paterno, someone else will surpass Coach Rob in the future and then what? Why throw salt in a open wound already. I know Paterno help cover up the molestation which is sickening but he has to meet his maker and deal with that. I will never disrespect the dead, just not in me.

I would have them forfeit every game and title from the time Joe Paterno knew what was going on until last season. However I don't believe that is going to happen. This old geezer was running a NCAA football program knowing he had a sexual predator in tow. This tells me that Penn State was running a rogue program and should be penalized for those past transgressions. I think some kind of retro active penalty is in order. I always thought Paterno looked like a pervert with those thick azz glasses but that is just my opinion.

JROCK is pleased and dismayed that the NCAA did the right thing and saw it my way! Y'all "gone" learn!

It is unfortunate how the record was returned to it's rightful owner, but it was even more unethical and disgraceful how it was taken in the first place....Justice! Now I hope the people in charge make sure the money and support that will be derived from these fines will actually end up in the hands of those victims and others across this country who need this type of support...

It does feel good to see such wicked people get punished. I wish the record didn't have to come home on the backs of rape victims. But, to punish such wicked people (even though it had nothing to do with football or the NCAA) is justifyable. Hang em high. . . .

Wow dude. You are really jealous of Grambling. Get your facts together with the so called " rape thing" before you become a crab in the pot. It's Jackson fans like you who make alums inform the G-Men to beat up on you every year in football. Yes! Grambling get's all of the accolades! Stop being jealous. Didn't you get some TV time and press for your white tiger story?

First of all Jay, you have a really backwards way of looking at things....But like you " I support free speech even if it doesn't make sense"...and dude you don't make sense.....

Man Grambling or Coach Rob didn't gain or loose one win by rape....Their Wins Total was already set and in the books, Jo Pa and Penn. State had to catch that number....it was the rout they CHOSE to take that F-ed them....

Yea we should have come together over this, but we black folk and we ain't gonna come together for Sh!t, especially something that would be an honor to hold on to for one of our own sister schools...."Crabs in a Bucket"....plus the coming together would have nothing to do with the victims....the victims justice is served in the first part when you don't allow the criminals to gain what they committed the crime for in the first place.........................nah the Grambling part is about "Beat Me don't Cheat Me"....something totally different....

Now lets here how I am so wrong....how this had nothing to do with football and wins and losses...how there was no need for them to take that GREAT man's record away for this cause he didn't do it and it wasn't his fault...you know all that other GULLIBLE sh!t yall like to spit on here....

 For those who didn't believe and especially those who took the time to write about and call those who did believe ignorant, delusional, slow, retarded and ridiculous...Welcome to reality. :teleport:

And the sad thing is, these folk on here justa debating and defending Penn State and Jo Pa and all up in arms about how wrong the NCAA was to punish them for such horrible acts and the cover-up that came with them.....and all the while...the higher-ups at Penn State have accepted the punishment and are moving on....

lol... and these folk on here with no connects to the school at all on here with their panties in a bunch defending some clowns...no better word...MONSTERS! Sad...

I guess they're happy now

""If the NCAA is about responding to public outrage over injustice and unethical behavior, then we need to be mad like Momma Dee about these kids not getting paid. Just saying. And don't gimme these arguments about "Kendrick the student-athletes get a full ride scholarship." Nah, bro.

Nick Saban make just as much money as Lovie Smith, got a plane, a statute and golf club membership. That cat don't need all that to coach amateur football. Matt Barkley ain't pulling in the same cheese as a starting QB in the league and he's the best QB in all of college football. Just think about that for a minute.

Oh, and them scholarships need to be four years as well instead of one year renewable joints. This is the time to make demands right now of the NCAA all in correcting injustices. If not, penalizing Penn State in this manner was just grandstanding.
