Grambling petitions (NCAA) to remove Joe Paterno wins record

:dead:
:emlaugh:

Get 'em TP!

I know when to exit stage left in a discussion. I don't understand their rationale and they don't understand mine. I have been married 10 years. I know when a battle can't be won or lost and it's time to go to bed or sleep on the couch. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Is anyone talking about Paterno being the all-time wins leader now?....Oh, just self serving Grambling folks and Tigerpride.

He will forever be connected with Jerry Sandusky, child rape and cover up. What the hell do you mean we might hear a snippet 100 years from now, considering this whole saga is the REASON he was fired from Penn State and his reputation marred?

O.J. Simpson is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Is that the first thing folk think about when his name is mentioned?

Don't be irrational, TP

Bring this thread up 10 years from now and you will see that I am right. People have short memories. OJ is the Sandusky in this case and OJ acted a total nut after that case so much so that those even who backed him and believed in him doubt him now. Comparing OJ to Paterno is not a fair comparison. At the end of the day, Sandusky is the REAL bad guy. Paterno was just a really weak co-conspirator.

I dont think the Powers at be cares about damm statue...I think they care more about the school and whats going on with that because the law will be enforced on the school for knowing about a crime and not reporting it...Who cares about wins and loses at this point...

That's what they care about NOW but all those years, this was going on, what did they care about? Paterno and that record.

You all are acting like there is no justice being served in this case. Penn State and those involved will get theirs. If it wasn't about Paterno and that record, many kids probably would have not been victims. But keep thinking this had nothing to do with the football program. The NCAA has every right to be involved here. This is a NCAA issue becasue it involved athletic dept employees. And if there is nothing in the NCAA books about this right now, you better believe they are about to be now. You can't have coaches and ADs doing what they want and not let it be seen as an NCAA issue. You can get off your own board with that.

But you still posting. Even the Grambling folks stopped whining...I mean posting b/c they know it's a lost fight.

In the era of YouTube, 24-hour news networks I highly doubt it folks will forget the biggest scandal in the history of collegiate athletics.

Folks ain't forgot about the SMU scandal, and they weren't as storied as Penn State.

Hell, ya'll still talk about how the SWAC used to be with Ben Jobe and Big Daddy and all the other conference figures from yesteryear who get rehashed during ESPN Classic SWAC broadcasts. So who you crappin'?

I remember when Mark Emmert (current president of NCAA) was chancellor at LSU, where he gave an impression of being diligent and comprehesive as lead adminstrator of the Baton Rouge campus.

Due to public outcry, and the fact that a death penalty sentence is warranted, I think the lack of institutional control is a viable violation. Emmert has already alluded his feelings of censure on PBS show. Since the despicable act happened in the Penn State football shower, and the once venerable Joe Pa concealed this crime, one can make the correlation that concealing evidence kept him on the sideline, which provides a competitive advantage (based on his experience compared to other coaches regardless of his diminishing wit of old age). This would open the forfeiture of games. Proper game planning is just a crucial as talent on the field (ask Les Miles).

If Ohio State gets probation for improper benefits like tattoos (with this improper benefit not having impact of Pryor plays or not since he was their best player), surely an argument can be made with not having as college football's winningest coach on the sidelines to provide game time adjustments can have a compromising affect of the outcome of games.

Has it been reported what were the grounds in the petition to NCAA?

I would have them forfeit every game and title from the time Joe Paterno knew what was going on until last season. However I don't believe that is going to happen. This old geezer was running a NCAA football program knowing he had a sexual predator in tow. This tells me that Penn State was running a rogue program and should be penalized for those past transgressions. I think some kind of retro active penalty is in order. I always thought Paterno looked like a pervert with those thick azz glasses but that is just my opinion.

I think it's 'Ni$$afied' to ask for this. . . I think it's dissrespectful for the victims. I can understand (not agree with but understand) that some people think wins and records are the most important things in life. . I don't.

Formally asking for this, at this time, before the dust settles, before the NCAA even completes their investigation, is like an ambulance chasing lawyer handing a grieving mother his business card at the hospital asking her if she want to sue as her child lies in critical condition. . .

There's a time and a place for everything. This is embarrasing.

Most of those Big 10 coaches look weird, such as Jim Tressel and his school boy pullover sweaters. Go Buckeyes!!!!!:emlaugh:

Y'all are really reaching trying to justify NCAA sanctions. Let your employer or some other governing agency try to punish y'all, but can't cite a single rule, policy, or law you violated. You'd have a hissy fit. Punishing Paterno is simply a moral argument. Good to hear from the pulpit.

WThis is BS and a waste of time. What happened at penn state had nothing to do with wins and losses. So I dont think the ncaa has a place in the punishment of peen state. This falls in the lap of the secratary of education and attorney general. The ncaa is only a governing body for violations that led to winning and losing. This was a crimnal matter of the highest order. Everybody wants to climb the moral ladder and get they pound of flesh. The civil lawsuits are coming. Trust me when penn state gets through writing that 1 billion dollars worth the checks then I will rest easy.

See that's where you are wrong cause had they chose to press the issue before he had this record he would have been gone and he could have never gotten it in the 1st place...

I would just like to say props to the City of Grambling and all who are pushing for this to happen...There are still some of us who have pride in the accomplishments of OUR Heroes and think they are actually worthy to have highly distinctive honors....even when those accomplishment places them ABOVE or in FRONT of those who are white, or anglo as 88 would say it....

Don this is the only time to ask for this and it is not disrespectful to the victims if you punish the criminal by denying them of what they covered up the crime for in the first place...

Why yall can't see that I have no clue...

and this hurts to say, but TP is right in his assessment of the situation....(God that hurt...lol).....we do agree on this issue....

Its some damn sad characters on this board. Y'all talk about standing for something and when someone takes the first step--cause most of y'all just gonna yak and not do shit in the end--you got all kinds of bullshit commentary on why it can't be done. Hell if there was a better way, why didn't your overintelligent self do it? Or if it doesn't matter to you, get the phugg out of the way and let the shit play out like it does? The overall can't stick together/work together....just read all thsi BS by our own "talented tenth"...a damn joke. :smh:

Go ahead City of Grambling!  You might not win...but at least you are giving it a damn fight to get what you want

I guess Grambling City attorney Pamela Breedlove went with the "All they can do is tell me no" mindset, but its gonna lead to like a lot of y'all are saying a 'can of worms 'opening up..

I don't roll with stupidity.

However, it would be impossible for anyone with a relationship to Grambling State (or any school for that matter) to play morality cops when more than likely their own schools had its own share of past transgressions as well.

Heck, Grambling State just rehired Patricia Bibbs. The same woman who in the mid-90s committed so many NCAA violations during her first stint that the women's basketball SWAC championship was stripped from the team. Why wasn't Breedlove and the mayor up in arms over that since they care about morality and character so much?

And the whole idea of taking winning seriously is the reason why coaches break rules or feel they can get away with breaking the rules. Everyone associated with college athletics (fans, alums, boosters, media) contribute to this.

We care too much about winning, records and bragging rights whether we support Grambling State or Penn State. We've given these programs and people way too much power with our undying reverence for them.

And now a city government official is getting into this act. There are far greater injustices than a college football wins record to tackle (no pun intended).

These people are in same boat as those morons at Penn State guarding and weeping over the Joe Paterno statue.

Then you focus on the ones important to you---> over there and leave those who think differently alone. If you don't believe in the dog fight, don't back a dog. Watch the boxing match you do believe in.

You ain't smart enough to understand a person with a Georgia Tech degree.

I really don't get what you all are not getting about this.. and Southsuburbs.. hush up. I know I lost this battle but it's only becasue I am smarter than most. They/u can't see what's right in front of your face.

.

I don't see how all of these smart and intelligent people are missing this. They want to reward Joe Paterno with a title he got by covering up a scandal. But they think it's right. To me, he and his family should NOT be rewarded for that. Some people are only looking at in terms of the football program but i am looking at it as a reward to Paterno. I think they intentionally chose to press the issue after he got the record.

Dude, you can make that blanket statement about almost anyone in any aspect of life but while you may not be perfect, you didn't molest a child did you or cover up for a friend who did. We all do wrong but if you do something wrong and get rewarded for it, your reward should be taken from you.

True. Most do when they disagree with JayRob.:emlaugh:

There are rules in place. They are called lack of institutional control and to be honest, the way that Paterno is revered around there, I am sure that MANY kids were sent that way just to play for him. That in itself could be considered an advantage. What if he was fired and replaced with some Rodriguez-esqe coach?
