Even in defeat, Grambling left no doubt about dominating the SWAC

Well you want have anybody outside the conf. to help you this year, you gotta earn it on your on, they're all gonna be healthy and you know what means.

As for your three swac titles in a row, i tried to tell you but like most info it gets deleted, but i'll try again and if this one doesn't make it, i'll e-mail ya.

3 BIG SWAC CHAMPIONSHIPS like 97,98,& 99 right? The only thing missing for you to do is to be named the team of the decade and win the James Franks award for best athletic program. But to do the latter you got to be good at more than football,so that's probably out. :eek2:

Btw, during that 97, 98, 99 run we didn't lose any conf. games, how about you?

Congrat on the James Frank award. But besides that.
1st off we are talking FOOTBALL, stay on the subject at hand. Okay SU had its run 97, 98 &99, GSU 2000-2002 and soon to be 2003. WIth all that in mind They are still swac championships. Just because you did not loose a swac game on the way to the title are we suppose to give you a cookie for that? Yeah, I could sit here and go on an and on about GSU other sports programs and name their accomplishments i.e. GSU womans basketball. But that is in the past. So you would be fooling yourself to sit and think GSU has only been good in Football. As far as this decade goes, who is running it currently? Who is the team to beat? New flash it's not SU but GSU. Everybody is always on GSU about riding the legacy/history, Well guess what. We have seen the future and the future is GSU! You say SU is gonna be healty, So that means no excuses when we send Pete packing huh?

DonTiger, I totally agree with ya. You had to be there to see it. Those long runs were the result of missing tackels which contributed to that 215 yds rushing.

Tru and Don

I'm feeling what you are saying. King had runs of 31 and 60 yards for touchdowns. He also had a run of over 50 yards to set up his other one. They would have had to have been there to see what happened. Keep in mind that King had 30 carries for 215 yards. That means that besides those three long runs, he had 27 carries for about 75-80 yards. King is a good runner, probably the best in the SLC. And when you think about 27 carries that netted only 75-80 yards, I'd say that is pretty good. On the flip side of that, I think what really hurt the Tigers is the alignment that the coaches puts the players in. Grambling plays a 4-3 defense. Anyone with good football sense knows that the most vulnerable area on the field when the 4-3 defense is used is the middle of the field because your inside linebackers are 4-5 yards off of the ball. Unfortunately, that is where McNeese tries to run the ball, between the tackles. The problem with Grambling is that unlike the traditional 4-3, they don't use two safeties all the time and if they do, they usually bring one up within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. When King broke through the defensive line, which did indeed play a helluva game, he had nothing but green in front of him. It is very difficult for the safety that is left back there to make an open field tackle when he is having to run up on a running back like that, especially one that doesn't go down easily. Remember on each long run, it was cornerbacks that brought him down. The safeties (both of them) were never in position to make clean tackles. I think if Grambling uses a traditional 2-deep safety approach, they would have won. McNeese adjusted to what they were doing at half and scored 24 points in the second half. That was the bottom line.

King is a good back but remember that our returning leading tackler from last year (Mike Daigre) normally starts at safety. Nothing against Bridges and Mills but they are not the physical hitter that Daigre is...Dude brings the hat! I'm told that he will be ready by the PVU game. Knowing Mike, that hamstring must be really hurting.

He'll be around to knock out some blues and yellas!

MikeBigg I blame you for this. :smh:

Thanks for that clip, Doc. It sorta helps to illustrate the point I made earlier about not using another safety. For anyone that has looked at it or will look at it, notice the safety in the play. When the clip starts he is out of the picture but when the quarterback pulls out from under center, you can see him on the 25 yard line at the bottom of the screen. As the toss flows, he moves with the play towards the sideline but then the running back cuts back. The safety is totally out of position to make a play on the runner. One might say that the linebacker should have made the play . . . . King ran right by him. But this is the one weakness of the 4-3 defensive scheme. The inside linebackers are the primary tacklers for runs in the middle of the field. The problem is that they are usually 5 yards off of the ball, which makes it awfully hard to tackle a cut back runner in space. This, to me, made the difference in the game. Lining up a second safety like a traditional 4-3 does would do wonders for Grambling. On all of King's long runs, there was never another safety in there to help make plays in the secondary. . . Oh, and blitzing so much doesnt always help either.

This is to sad, yo punk@ss gettin smacked and your praising him for it. MikeBigg this ones on you! :smh:

Do all Southern posters have Blue Dog's attitude problem? ;)

Posting the run video wasn't intended as smack. :)

GramFan,

I understand exactly what your saying about the safety being their to make the play. Our regular strong safety is Mike Daigre and he's been out all season. He told me that he's due to come back for the PV game. The hamstring wasn't just pulled but suffered a slight tear. He has been jogging on it and will be ready for the conference grind. I told him to take it slow in the PV game and not try to over do it.

Taking nothing from King and the guys playing safety, but Daigre kills that play before it even gets started.

Note to BlueDog: GramFan doesn't smack...he will comment on the smack board but he keeps it real.

MB

Yanno, I'm glad you brought up Daigre. Bridges and Mills were only in the game, together, when it was an obvious passing situation. Other than that, they rotated in and out from the free safety position. I wonder if the coaching staff decided that because Daigre was not there, they would instead use a fourth linebacker or 5th down lineman. On the clip that Doc posted, they were really in a 4-4. But most of the time, there were 5 defensive linemen in there.
