How Do You Get locs to Stay Locked!!!!

Tony, it's really going to depend on your grade of hair on how fast your hair will lock. If you have really coarse hair, it could lock up in a few short months.
But if you have fine or "so called good" hair, the process will take longer.
It locks (at least for when I had locs) when you're consistent with maintaining TWISTS. After some months, you will start to fill balls/knots in your twists; the matted hair is beginning to permanently lock. Once it starts to lock, it will lock pretty fast.

For me, my hair locked after 6 months. Nowadays, you have natural hair specialists who can help you achieve locs. There are also hair care products for those who desire twists, coils and locs. I locked my own hair and started doing others who wanted twists or locs when I lived in Jackson.

It takes a lot of maintenance to have locs... especially if you want them to look good (and clean).

It Took me a Minute for mine to lock because of my hair grade........ I hated and was confused when female kept asking, " How do you get your hair so Curly", "Did you Put a Process in your Head" "Do you have Straw Curls???"
Baby its just my hair....:noidea:
It wasnt until after I cut them off is when I found out wat "Straw Curls" was.....:noidea:

I thought locs were maintenance free.

No indeed!
It takes work to have locs and even HARDER work when you're trying to get them to lock.
And once they do lock, you still have to maintain the hair, because you're going to always have new growth (at the root), which will need to be twisted.

That's part of the reason why I'm still on the fence about growing my locs back. It's work (and/or money to have a stylist do it for you).

I'm getting asked that now.

Straw sets are sooooo cute! But it's funny they were asking you that!

Bruh if you have a good grade of hair then it will take a longggg time. It took almost two year for mines to locs all the way....

:lecture::lecture: so true

Crit, I think my reason for keeping mines so long is because there a lady in Houston who will retwist them for 25$.... Everyone else want 65 and 70 dollars which I will not PAY!!!!! I go back at least every week or every other week depending on whats going on for the week..... Good straight hair needs steady attention especially when it comes to locs..... I sometimes be like got dammit why cant I have NAPPY HAIR.....:lol::lol:

Crit get'em back gul........

I tried while in college. That mess looked like "straw curls". It was just long twists really. My hair wouldn't lock. The chick who used to try to do it would use beeswax, gel, and that damn Pump It Up. That was useless.

thats what I was told in my consultation. i went ahead and let her do the comb twists to start them, but I washed them out after about 5 weeks when I started thinking about how long she told me it would take for them to completely loc. :scared: Plus they were beginning to look ugly cause they needed to be retwisted, but i was still getting compliments. People were asking me all types of questions about the process, I was like I don't know i just started, but bout to stop. I'll try it again when my patience is better.

JSU*Toi has long BEAUTIFUL locs!

That MESS will have your hair dirty no doubt....... GUD uses Jamican Mango and Lime gel. The lady who does my hair will not use beeswax or honey on your hair..... Alll it does is stick to your hair and hold dust and dirt........

You gotta have patience to go through the process..... It will make you wanna give up but once they get normally past your ears then things start becoming a bit better....... I think the FRIZZY look after like three days is what made me mad in the beginning.... Most folks in my hometown ask me all the time why would I get LOCS with a good grade of hair likes mines...... My answer has always been---- I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT...... I was actually suppose to cut them off in January 2010 but decided to keep going... Imma have them cut a little bit there getting tooooooooo long...

I'm thinking about it. I'm definitely natural and letting it grow out. I like the way my hair is now. But we'll see how I'm feeling as it continues to grow out.

Think long and hard before you cut them off, Z. I was (mentally) sick for about a year after cutting my locs, which grew close to my shoulders. I literally felt apart of me died after I cut them off. SICK! It's almost like a spiritual connection when you have locs. So don't let it be a rash move when and if you decide to cut them off.

Yes i'm gonna try it again, but my hair is way to long now, so I would have to cut it. Its still natural, but way longer than when I tried the first time. And yep, i'm with you on wanting something different. you do rarely see people with good grades of hair locing.

Don't cut them! I just talked my guy friend into not cuttin his a few weeks ago, when he told me he was gonna cut them, I beggggggged him not to. I was like NOOOOOOOOO! He was like why, its just hair...I was like no its not just hair! And then I gave him my personal version of incentives that men really don't think about....:goodbad: he's gonna keep them. :)

:lol::lol: i'm laughing cause people ask me all the time how do I perm my dreads in the front to make my hair so straight...:lol: I just laugh and tell them this is my HAIR!!!! I just have a nice grade... I hate when folks ask if they can touch them but already have their hands in your head... My coworkers have it bad when it is FRESH.... I'm like ummmm please don't do that......:lol::lol:

As of now, paying for transportation from airport to hotel. But if you're making yourself available, I'll take you up on that-- if you're free. I won't tie you down right now, because anything can come up.
I'll call/text you as the date gets closer to see if you're still free. Booking my flight before the month is out, and looking at coming in on an late afternoon ('round 4 or so).
We'll talk... Thanks, Sweetie!
