Division 1 HBCUs Should Consider Dropping Football To Gain Basketball Glory

You right, but I'm looking for Tulane to make a move up the food chain here in da boot.

Yes, that's the rumblings I have been hearing. It is going to be interesting. I noticed LA. Tech and ULM is recruiting parts of East Texas pretty heavy these days. I wonder if they will get separation from those two schools. We'll see....

I honestly thought this was satire when I first read it. But let's be real, our football budgets (for what we receive) are bloated. But even if we shift those funds from football to other sports would it really be effective? I think prior to making a move like this, there should be some actual research into how the changes would be implemented and the turn around time for a return on this investment.

I've said for a while that in exchange for our November and December barnstorming tours we should at least have a few home games (or home and homes) with smaller regional schools (or even area power 6/BCS schools). PV and TSU can do this with no problem with several universities in the area (UNT, Houston, Rice, Lamar, etc. to name a few). If the product continues to improve the fans will come and we can ween ourselves off the money games. Creighton and MTSU used to do home and home with Valley even as late as 2005 so I know it can be done. Our AD's just have to put in the work to find those dance partners.

you talk about possibly giving up football when your conference is in the CRADLE OF THE COUNTRY WHERE FOOTBALL IS A RELIGION!!!??

TXSU and PV -------> these 2 schools are located in a HUUUUGE state where athletes abound. Realistically neither of these schools should have to go outside of Texas to get good players.

Are you ignoring ol' P88's words in the sports forum DGTM? I will not falsify my words w/ respect to my undergrad. Feb 2013, PVAMU inked 2 student-athletes from the state of texas. Not "two-zero," but "zero-two" (2). And it was how many who signed... 21 total I think(?).

Nah, texas cannot POSSIBLY be a football breeding ground w/ all the numerous multi-million $$$ stadiums, indoor practice facilities, and multi-million $$$ weightrooms given to the local high schools and every single football participating university in the continental america and even non-continental (Univ of Hawaii recruits here but targets Cali :read: ) recruiting talent here. According to Prairie View, there are NONE here. :-/

Maybe it really does take the intellect of a rocket scientist to determine what the factual definition of a "sham" is. :retard:

662, in this area, there's a lot of HISTORY between specific FCS schools and ESPECIALLY ill-will for THOSe schools (HBCUs) who are known to welch on contracts/previous agreements. So, for the most part, SOME do not want to be bothered w/ the HBCUs outside of last minute filler games, and that goes for quite a few sports besides football.

Did anyone not wonder why Stephen F Austin wasn't on PV's tilt until recently? How they purposely ignored PVAMU for a while during the 90s forward to early 2000s while certain "key" ppl were still employed @ SFA. *whistling* :read: :read: :read: :read:

Sad, most of our kids every year are from Mississippi with some Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia/Florida mixed in.

P88 doesn't bitch just to be bitching mane. My words are concise and accurate w/ respect to the sham that PV has pulled recently.

And it's hella' good that Valley recruits the home area first and foremost while filling in the rest of what's required from neighboring states.

At first glance it looked like Tulane was making a great move to the Big East(or whatever it is going to be called now) but now that conference has to have lost a lot of its power with all of the big name schools pulling out. It is basically C-USA pt. 2. If Tulane starts putting some of that big $$$$ into their athletics then they will be alright. LSU won't let them get anywhere near them though. lol

They're other programs that are good and formidable recruiting foes to S.U. and Gram.....LA. Tech, Louisiana Monroe and Tulane and that is just the FBS schools come to mind. If memory serves me correctly, ULM appeared on national t.v. 3-4 times this year and LA. Tech actually cracked the top 25 for a minute either this season or last. Tulane is young but has been mopping up the last two years in recruiting. I'm not complaining though, but one cannot dismiss those programs as well as some that are edging us out on some players on the FCS level in Louisiana. It's just not that "black or white" the way you stated it.

Yeap, there are a lot of schools that we have to compete with for players. He made it seem like we have it easy. lol

The other thing that many people don't realize is how good high school football is in LA. We have problems with a lot of schools from out of state dipping in getting LA. athletes.
