This is a non starter unless people can figure out a way to offer them the money those schools do. Plus, why just limit it to the SEC? Georgia is about to do the exact same thing. All red states are going to end up doing it at some point. All of this stuff is political. Kinda like how I went to vote early last week and the realized that the ballots no longer classify people by their party. It was like Governor, and then just 10 names where they didn't specify which party they were running in.
I already knew who to vote for, but this is going to cause a LOT of people to just click names and vote for whoever since they can't see if it's a Democrat or a Republican. That would mean no more GT, no more Clemson, no more Georgia State, no more Kennesaw State, no more Jacksonville State, no more Troy, no more South Alabama, no more Southern Miss, no more USM....so on and so forth. Do we at all believe that's sensible? Where would all of those kids go? Unless there's gonna be 30 more large HBCU's built in the south, where are all of those kids supposed to go? Eventually it'll affect Midwestern states like Ohio and Indiana...right along with Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, West Virginia...
Texas already tried the same even before the Supreme Court ruling so that would rule them out too...along with Texas A&M, Baylor,, Texas Tech, SMU, Texas State, North Texas, TCU, Houston, UTSA, UTEP, Rice, Sam Houston State, UGTRV, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Lamar, S F Austin, Incarnate Word, East Texas A&M and Houston Christian. Black athletes in Texas wouldn't be able to attend any of those schools if that's what people are pushing for. They're all white schools, not just the SEC. And the FBS ones are all paying, just not the same amounts. So where does the line get drawn?
Why not the big 10, 12 and the acc?
I think it is more of gong after certain schools. This is a non starter unless people can figure out a way to offer them the money those schools do. Plus, why just limit it to the SEC? I guess they have not seen Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa etc.... If the call wants to be successful, they have to go for all of them! I lived in Pennsylvania for over 40 years, once you get outside of Metro Philadelphia, Pittsburg, ABE and the city of Harrisburg, you are in Alabama. They were targeting mainly red states in the south.
Now as Tennessee Brando said this should not be limited to black jocks. It needs to be all athletes boycott the SEC.
I think it is more of gong after certain schools.
Boycotting a Incarnate Word means nothing. Now if you boycott a Houston and those top black jocks go to say Lamar or UGTRV or Rice-those other schools are going to pay attention because you are doing more than just trying to hurt them.
I would think the damage would be seen more in basketball than football.
You hurt some top basketball teams with a boycott and those players go to HBCUs and lower level schools and build them up. Those players hold out until there is change or you make those schools shell out more to get you.
Georgia State and Kennesaw State alone have around 40K black students. Georgia Southern has around 7K black students. I guess the AUC, Fort Valley and Albany State are supposed to absorb that? Again, it's not realistic.alot of those schools don't really have large black populations combined so if you spread them out across HBCUs it wouldn't cause a log jam - maybe for some that are more popular
but in reality we won't boycott nor some even know anything about this voting stuff so it'll be business as usual
This is what I'm saying, it doesn't make sense at all. This is like when black folks boycotted Target for reversing DEI as if Walmart, Amazon and plenty of other corporations didn't do the exact same thing. But when you ask someone why they're still shopping at Walmart, no one could explain why they weren't held to the same requirements. If it's a red state thing with white schools, then it has to e all red states with all white schools. Otherwise, you're just targeting the kids that have the possibility of making the most money. You're telling a kid that grew up in Ridgecrest that has an 3MILa year NIL offer from Auburn to turn that down and play somewhere else. Somewhere else that that's going to pay them, at best, 50K. You can't do that, but you can go play for Jacksonville State or Alabama State. Let's be serious here man lolI guess they have not seen Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa etc.... If the call wants to be successful, they have to go for all of them! I lived in Pennsylvania for over 40 years, once you get outside of Metro Philadelphia, Pittsburg, ABE and the city of Harrisburg, you are in Alabama.
it would take time - but with online options, etc. it can happen faster than normal - problem is folks won't be aligned and complain its not moving at breakneck speedGeorgia State and Kennesaw State alone have around 40K black students. Georgia Southern has around 7K black students. I guess the AUC, Fort Valley and Albany State are supposed to absorb that? Again, it's not realistic.
It is about sacrifice. Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die.The only recent boycott that has actually worked was Target who lost actual money
But then you can't turn around and go to Walmart who literally did the same thing
You can't tell these top athletes to turn down $500,000 from Ole Miss for $5,000 in financial aid from Valley. Let's be realistic.
If there was a windfall of NIL money in which each SWAC school got at least $5 mil for NIL, I think you could convince some for $50-100k if you sell your school right (Valley for example can say "You can play in front of 10k who look just like you") but telling someone to refuse life changing money without any tangible replacement plan is pointless
I have kicked Target and Walmart to the curb. I pay a little more for what I want but if you really do the math you are probably spending more because when you go to Walmart you probably do impulse buys because you think you are getting a deal. I don't use Amazon either. It is about sacrifice. Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die.

And therein lies our problem.Athletes can boycott the SEC. But those schools will still get $50 million each a year from those lucrative network TV deals they signed.
No it will not. It wasn't the case when the Walter Payton's and Jerry Rice's were playing at HBCU's and it's not gonna be that way now. Why? Networks make money on ratings, not where the black kids play. Those schools have massive alumni bases and the casual fan at their disposal and will always draw far more viewers regardless. In a real life situation, let's say it's been 5 years and a bunch of black kids are going to HBCU's instead of Texas.Boycott and "Promote/Attend" HBCU'S - the television money and fanfare will follow providing NIL money for the athletes.
We didn't get on "mainstream tv" when we had the Paytons and Rices but our top athletes (in this case football players) will be drafted in the same numbers as before we were allowed on the plantation. Remember that at one time (when we were "NAIA") Grambling had more players in the NFL than any college in the USA (No it will not. It wasn't the case when the Walter Payton's and Jerry Rice's were playing at HBCU's and it's not gonna be that way now. Why? Networks make money on ratings, not where the black kids play. In what world is Disney putting PV/SU in a prime time slot vs Texas and Oklahoma? They'll always be able to spend more money regardless, that's not even worth questioning. So in reality, you'd be directly competing for TV slots against Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, Arkansas, Texas and Texas A&M. So where does the extra 50M for NIL come from at that point? In a time where the middle class is being put in a squeeze financially and we already don't come close to their overall wealth, it sounds good but it's just not practical. At all.
I mean realistically, even being able to beat out the upper G5 teams is a stretch, let alone the SEC. When they resign their media deal in 2030, it's pretty widely expected that at least one or two of FSU, Miami, Clemson or UNC will be leaving the ACC to join them. They paid out 72 MILLION per school just from their media deal last year. If that happens, and let's say they took FSU & Miami. Their new deal would put them easily in the 90 million per year area. And that's just the media deal. Add NIL and what are we even talkin about?

How and they getting used and abused?Unless the athletes are switching to HBCUs, I don't give a sh$t if they boycott or not.
No difference between LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, UCLA, Indiana or Colorado in my book.
Let them continue to get used and abused if they want.
Well maybe that's a little harsh.... guess I just don't give two cents about Black athletes going to PWIs. lolHow and they getting used and abused?
There is not enough HBCUs and spots for those athletes, if a mass boycott took place of PWIs (even it was specific to the only SEC schools). If something like that did happen, then it would just push out black talent already attending HBCUs.Boycott and "Promote/Attend" HBCU'S - the television money and fanfare will follow providing NIL money for the athletes.
