I don't think that will be an issue for you. You can factor out the B'ham locals that won't travel to Huntsville or Montgomery. Then factor out the Montgomery folks who won't travel to H'ville and vice versa. Once you do that, the numbers will even out. It would sell out, but I don't think you all will have a problem accomodating folks in either city.

That's pretty damn good. No way the schools could clear that much after expenses at home.

That could happen but when the game is in huntsville we can't factor out bham locals....they don't have a problem driving an hour for a game of that magnitude vs ASU....so it could be a problem

I do say moving the game to Huntsville/Montgomery is worth a try just to see how things go with both cities

I may be mistaken but 5 years later the actual payout might be close to 1 million. .I know for sure it's higher than 400k.

The actual payout, including everything, was around $400,000 in 2010. Since then the City has upped it payments to $327,000 per school and sponsorships have increased. Now, the total payout is substantially higher than $400,000, but is still quite a distance from $1M.

So about 700k? I read the actual number in a news article awhile back...
 
AD Hines told me Bama State's total payout was less than $300K after expenses. The two institutions split the gate with the Bruno Event Team (promoters). Hines and Hicks are asking for $800k each in the ongoing negotiations. If we were receiving the type of money you guys are suggesting there would be no need to re-negotiate the contract.

The payout was $400,000; what Bama State cleared after it's expenses is another issue. The donation alone by the city to each school this year is $327,000. This does not include each school's share of the revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships.

Good to see they are seeking more of the cut from the revenues.

Oracle, If both universities received $727k, then someone is lying and putting out erroneous information about the MCC. Hines and some BOT members are not happy with our share. I will verify with Hines and I want you to do the same with Hicks. If the $727k figure is correct, then the details of the new contract should be easy to work out. Also, please inquire about the payout to the promoters.

The payout has never been $400k - and these conversations are not to include what Alabama Power gives for "scholarships" and those other presentations. Also remember the MCC as of right now does not have a Title Sponsor - State Farm left the fold before last year's game, so that's "supposedly" a chunk of money that has gone by the wayside for someone - do the schools benefit from the sponsorship money or is that all for the promoters? Just raising questions.....

I don't know anything about the MCC finances..... That's not a whole lot unless they getting good sponsors or the city is giving them a LOT for free. In which case, those complaining need to STFU. I'm sure expenses eat up half of that 1.2M since the game money probably covers security, banquets, awards, etc.. I would also venture to say that I bet a WHOLE lot of comp tickets are given out. Even that parade needs lot of security unless the city is providing that OT to their cops for free. They also have a lot of special guests who I assume charge a fee. Otherwise the sponsor is paying for it. I would assume that the city at least gives them the Old Grey Lady for free but what about security and lights and energy while they are tailgating all week?

A lot of people are down on sponsors but if you want an event done right, you need one. The JSU-Alcorn game used to have 50-60K but we dropped the promoters and it dropped.

As for the BAMAs, when you only have one big game, you better leave it as it is. People can't wear their Maroon fur coats the same way in Huntsville. LOL

he needs to see where 800K is going to come from. Again, hosting an event of that magnitude is not cheap unless u getting a lot of stuff for free. $300K after expenses sounds about right for a $20 ticket. Especially since you get that every year. NO way you clear $600K at home.

Expenses paid for by the city alone (2103):

Legion Field is free...city pay for the buses.

Much of the $590,000 in city funding for the Classic this year includes extras outside the regular contract that are added for the major event.

For example, this year's event includes $270,000 to the participating universities, $150,765 for shuttle services, $15,000 for ushers, $15,000 in catering and $20,000 for 1,600 game day tickets.

The extra tickets are divided between the mayor's office and the council.

Another $71,150 will be spent to promote and produce a post-game concert featuring Morris Day and the Time.

"Maybe we could let them take over the expense of the buses since we are giving them all this taxpayer money," Abbott said.

Birmingham's contractual obligation goes up $17,500 each year which is down from the proposed $25,000 annual increase, said Terry Burney, senior aide to Mayor William Bell.

That was an approximation. It could be a little less. But there is no reason for it not to be at least in the low 500 to mid 600. ad that includes the figures for this coming year (including the increased payments from the city). even at those figures, they should be asking .for more because of the amount of spending during the weekend.

Gene Hallman, chief executive of the Bruno Event Team, which organizes and operates the Magic City Classic, said the tremendous amount of corporate support for the game, along with the financial and in-kind support from the city of Birmingham, will net each team more than $400,000.

"Though the numbers are preliminary, we believe that even after all expenses are paid, each school will have a record payout for the 69-year history of the Magic City Classic," Hallman said. "That is huge because this is the single biggest line item for each of these universities, and the money goes to support not just football, but other sports at the schools."

Hallman said the corporate donations were led by State Farm Insurance, and the city offered public safety, facilities and other support to help offset costs for the schools.

Hallman is including the VALUE of the services offered/given in-kind. The schools have never taken a check home from this event for that amount. If that was 2010 - the schools should each be taking home close to 600/700K by now since the event has grown from that time huh - if they each got more than $400k in 2010, I mean you would think. Even the article you posted prior to this outlines what the City is giving - and that's $290k roughly. We lost the State Farm sponsorship - and had no title sponsor for the '15 Classic.....
