why can't the Bayou Classic be played the on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend? the game would be the only football game on TV at that time, and this move would allow the SWAC Champion to enter the playoffs

Have had this discussion before. (grabs Rocky Patel and glass of Crown Black)

SU and Gram fans are about to start having massive chest pains.

Putting on my Kevlar vest and helment.
Don't want to get hit by all these rocks coming from B.R. and Grambling Louisana.

I posted a similar thread a few weeks ago concerning moving the Soul Bowl an earlier date. See, a fanbase is most excited about the first game of the season. Both teams are 0-0 and each fanbase is excited. This means there is the potential for games attracting more people than usual.

Imagine having the Bayou Classic, the Soul Bowl, the Magic City Classic, Labor Day Classic, UAPB or Valley playing in the SWAC-MEAC Challenge ALL Labor Day Weekend?!?! That would increase revenue for each achool TREMENDOUSLY.

The SWAC can survive but we must sacrifice tradition for the future. It's really that simple.

If people don't watch the SWAC on a constant basis at least we can have our time that LABOR Day to expose people to the SWAC.

Man we have had this discussion so much, could have had it other languages. The "powers-that-be" want to keep it the way it is.

his handling of the football coaches situation was SHAMEFUL and a lot of internal problems, and Im not one to sit back and be quiet, I let him know in email, phone, facebook, twitter and instagram

Has he relied back to you and if so, what did he say?

Damn, this topic again??? This shit come up every year....Doug spoke on this last yr in a article concerning games and playing teams later or earlier than normal on our schedule and saying its tradition to play certain teams during the year like we did back in the day(smh on that). For example. He said its unusual and not Grambling tradition to open up with A&M to start the season....you already know if they brought some shit like that to Doug it would get shot down.....that game ain't being moved no time soon..no matter how many people want it moved....

The BC isnt stopping anyone from going to the playoffs. The SWAC Championship game is.

I know Alcorn nothing to do with Bayou Classic but I'm looking at it from the SWAC (Entire Conference) Point of View.

One thing that has hurt the Post-2000s Classics played in NOVEMBER is the fact that it is the Holiday Season. Folks have to often choose game or holiday. You can do both but people tend to spend more money during this time.

Labor Day is the PERFECT FOOTBALL HOLIDAY!!! The next closest holiday I can think of is Halloween but it is not of the magnitude of Thanksgiving. FOLKS CAN PLAN TO ATTEND A LABOR DAY GAME AND WILL BE MORE WILLING TO ATTEND BECAUSE FOOTBALL IS THE ONLY THING GOING ON DURING THIS TIME. Also, people won't have to choose between game vs. Holiday season from a FINANCIAL STANDPOINT!! Add in the fact you are playing your in-state rival to start the season and you have yourself something good.

All the SWAC has to do is adjust to the market it serves. You know SWAC folks of today only attend homecoming and the in-state rivalry game. A fanbase is most excited for the 1st game of the season. People can spend more money on the 1st game because they don't have to worry about the holiday season just yet. 1st game is against in-state rival. I see a win-win situation revenue wise.

It ain't the BC that stops anything anymore. The SCG has to be cancelled. As long as the SWAC requires the East and West division champs to play for the SWAC Championship, it don't matter if we played the BC on August 1st.

That statement always fly's over their heads.

I don't know why it does. Then it is always the BC folks target with this rhetoric. Last time I checked we have two games being played on the week of Thanksgiving. Now all 3 games (SCG, TDC, and BC) does keep the conference from getting an AUTO bid from FCS, since we don't have all our teams eligible to play on the day of the playoffs including our champion. So the best that could happen is we have a team ranked so high but didn't make the SCG that could get an at large bid like we used to get when JSU or someone would go.

Sorry JR................. But I got to  at that up there in red. Not arguing, rehashing, or making a plea for JSU but this is a dead topic for the SWAC. Even I gave up years ago on this topic and you know I like the playoffs.

The SWAC WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER BID FROM FCS AS LONG AS WE KEEP THIS CONFERENCE FORMAT WE HAVE NOW.............SCG, GAMES AFTER PLAYOFFS START, ETC. Besides..........we are not going to ever have a 2nd place division team ranked high enough to go to the playoffs. We don't even play enough playoff eligiable conference teams in a season to even get consideration from FCS and why would they consider inviting us. I can't think of one single reason.

Playoffs are dead for the SWAC.
DEAD, ENBOMBED, LOCKED IN A COFFIN, SEALED IN WATERTIGHT CONCRETE AND COVERED WITH DIRT as far as FCS and all the other teams in FCS they have to choose from is concerned. Don't care how people explain how "we can still go." The SWAC and the majority of it's supporters worked hard to achieve that goal so people need to live with it now. Playoffs ain't happening. Lets move on before people start saying one of us JSU posters started this thread and bought the playoffs subject up. :lmao:

I assume that many believe that if you move these games to participate in the playoffs, that you would automatically cancel the SCG so in reality, it' is the BC and TDC standing in the way. However, the conference has already decided that the SCG is better for us than the playoffs.

I have bee saying it for years that the game should be the first game of the season. The schools are amped and would draw a larger crowd because if both teams have a losing season...by November no one wants to come....

But hey...dead horse thread.

Would you really want to play a major rivalry game at the beginning of the season...the football would be HORRIBLE

Besides, I like seeing the Bayou Classic in November...just wish they would play it the week before Thanksgiving...but that's a different can of worms...

I GUARANTEE revenue streams for The Bayou Classic, Soul Bowl, Magic City Classic would INCREASE if these games were all played labor day weekend. The Labor Day Classic (PV vs. TX Southern) showed me the light.

UAPB and Valley could either play each other OR send one to the SWAC-MEAC Challenge and give the other one the week off or schedule somebody OOC if they so choose.

FBS schools would be GLAD to play us later in the year like AAMU played Auburn last year because in their eyes, they are getting a break before bowl season.

How could you GUARANTEE that???
