Bayou Classic

If you feel that strongly about it get your soldiers together (organize) and have a non violent demonstration. Go on a hunger strike until your conditions are met. Also, get your group to lock their arm in human chain in front of the athletic dining hall so no one can get in until your conditions are met. Get the Fruit of Islam to teach your soldiers that fancy march they do (very intimidating and your president will know you're serious). Show up, show up on time and show out! Keep your eyes on the prize ungawa Black Power! As-salamu alaykum!

Mark off the MCC. The attendance figures have very little to do with the record of the two teams. It's a tradition that has turn into an event.

See the problem with the Bayou Classic is that that fans will not want to be at the game if SU losing. GSU's following has never been as great as SU's at the classic. Some GSU people will disagree but it's the truth. Let SU have a winning season and notice how full the dome would be. Look back at the years when the numbers were high and then examine SU's record.

a 6 or 7 win jaguar team would fill the dome this year. man we are overdue for a winning season.

Dude, my post was topic related. Calm down.
You know I'm right. The BC attendance has declined considerably since Katrina. Yall need to do something before the game withers away even worse than it already is withering.
Braveheart has made a good suggestion for the BC.

Wait....Who told you that you were right? WRONG as usual! :smh:

Please tell us how the game is withering away. You're always asking folks to post your sources, your turn! Post proof that the game is withering away "worse than it already is.

Otherwise, keep it moving without you posting your usual nonsense.

It is a damn shame that some of yall are so damn stubborn and ignorant to the big picture :smh:.

Unlike Obama, I don't bullshit behind elegant speaking. I am telling truth about what needs to happen.

Do you Grambling and SU know that we are trying to meet you halfway? Why don't you try to do the same? You did not want to get rid of the game so we are trying to COMPROMISE. You get to keep your game, just on a new date ....with the perfect football holiday, Labor Day.

You can at least quit being sorry and meet us halfway. I tell ya, SWAC is lucky I'm not Commissioner.

Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday in the United States. So it is understandable folks come back to the Boot from everywhere that week. Folks just go home for that holiday.

Then make Labor Day the most traveled holiday for La folks.

All this jibber jabber.
The SHC fell off by 10,000 the last 4 years but the 3 top 2012 classics in the nation all belong to SWAC schools or has a SWAC school in it. With Tenn State and JSU back with winning records, look for the SHC to have well over 50,000 this year. We have consistently drew at least 42,000 no matter what the records are. The worst SHC attendance was in 1991 they when invited Valley..................... 25,000.

Carry on.

1. Magic City Classic: 58,201 Fans: State Farm Magic City Classic Presented by Coca-Cola, is the reigning number one HBCU football classic, and is the largest in the country. Maintaining its position, the Classic saw a slight decrease from the 66,473 fans in attendance in 2011. The 71st edition of Magic City Classic was played on October 27, 2012. The game featured the annual battle of in-state rivals Alabama State University Hornets (ASU) vs. Alabama A&M University (AAMU) Bulldogs at the famed Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. The Hornets took a 31-13 victory over the Bulldogs earning their second Classic win in three years. The classic is a long time tradition dating back to 1924 with a record of 35-32-3, AAMU leading the series.

2. Bayou Classic: 45,980 Fans: The 39th annual State Farm Bayou Classic moves up two positions, making it the second largest HBCU Classic in the country. This event was held on November 24, 2012 in the newly renovated Mercedes-Benz Super Dome in New Orleans, LA. This historic match-up between rivals Grambling State University Tigers (GSU) and Southern University Jaguars (SU) is a Thanksgiving weekend tradition for alumni, families and fans. This year the Jaguars rallied to a 38-33 victory over the Tigers. This Classic has been around since 1974. GSU leads the series with a 20-19 record.

3. Southern Heritage Classic: 42,257 Fans: The Southern Heritage Classic Presented by FedEx surges up to the nation’s third largest HBCU classic, with the Atlanta and Florida Classic’s losses in attendance in 2012. The 23rd Annual Southern Heritage Classic was held on September 8, 2012. This gridiron battle between Jackson State University Tigers (JSU) and Tennessee State University Tigers (TSU) is one of the most storied rivalries in black college football. The game is played in the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis has been the classic’s home since 1990 and deeply in embodies in the city’s cultural heritage. This year TSU snapped JSU’s 2 game winning streak with a 38 -12 victory over JSU. TSU holds the series edge 25-20-2.

You ought to know by now that JayRob don't post just to be posting.

1994- attendance 76,000

2000-2004 average attendance 70,198

2006- attendance 47, 196 (30 percent decline)

2011- attendance 40,175 (14 percent decline from 2006)

http://theadvocate.com/sports/southern/1426802-123/turnout-for-bayou-classic-smallest.html

If both teams have losing records again in 2013 (which is highly likely), that number may go even lower.

30% and 14% decline from what? Please explain how you derived of those percentages.

Let me re-state before folks try to twist it...

I recommend moving the Bayou Classic, Soul Bowl, Magic City, etc. ALL to Labor Day weekend to join PV vs. Texas Southern and the SWAC-MEAC Challenge. Labor Day Weekend would be the only date where we the SWAC can put our best foot forward to America. We won't get the viewership opportunities with those Thursday night ESPNU games EVEN if the Thursday Night game was JSU vs. SU.

Yes, the Bayou Classic would stay in New Orleans, Soul Bowl would still rotate between Lorman and Jackson, Magic City Classic would stay in its current location, Labor Day Classic would stay in its same location.

Now, what to do about UAPB, Valley, and SWAC-MEAC Challenge. Howard participates in a classic here in DC called the Nation's Football Classic with Morehouse. Word on the Street is that One team or both want to eventually pull out. We have a few options 1. UAPB and Valley can play each other and we cancel sending a team to the SWAC-MEAC Challenge, 2. We do Morehouse like FAMU did TN State in the Atlanta Classic by convincing Howard (WHO IS LOCATED WHERE...WASHINGTON, DC) that playing UAPB or Valley would be more beneficial for expanding recruiting and thus agreeing to replace Morehouse with either UAPB or Valley. The remaining team would be sent to the SWAC- MEAC Challenge. Morehouse would just be left out in the cold (Hey, Business is Business. It's a cold world) It is important we start back playing MEAC Schools. OR 3. Uapb and Valley can enjoy a week off or play an FBS School.

Guys, this can work if we give it a try for the LONG-TERM. Naturally, the first year won't show because people have to adjust to breaking tradition and playing your in-state rival as the first game of the season. But I'm thinking long term.

Like thebandfan stated earlier...might as well get the money while its there before and during homecoming. But after homecoming, folks are spending money for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They ain't giving a damn about an HBCU Game. Understand, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS/ STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES are also happening in November/ Early December. "Traditional" SWAC Advocates like DOUG seem to have forgotten this. Then you the FBS Championship games.

The core of my model is simple: When Bill Clinton was President, nearly everybody had a little extra spending money. Bush came, took our spending money AND our work check. People just don't have the money we once did thus we must adjust to our target market.
