Band Nalia and people outside the band?

I didn't think that wearing a band t-shirt equated to, "I was/am a member of XYZ band." If it said, "I was a member of XYZ band", then I could see the point of not wanting folks to wear it. My Dad and 2 brothers are BOOM but my mom wasn't, didn't even attend JSU. She has worn Sonic Boom shirts on many occasions that she ganked from my brothers. LOL

Most people who may want to wear the shirts want to PROMOTE the band, not perpetrate.

Once upon a time, LONG LONG ago, at an HBCU campus FAR FAR away, a dude was sitting in his car wearing a GREEK LETTER FRATERNITY SHIRT. Problem: The dude in the car was NOT A MEMBER of the organization he bore on his chest.

Upon finding ME in the dining hall, the local campus instaugators and isht starters made me aware of the PERPETRATOR'S location.

I rose up like a bat out of h3LL and proceded to confront and test this PERP to see if he was legit. If not.....I was gonna whup his arse right? Remember, I was YOUNG and DUMB.

I stormed over to his car... looked inside....and said "nukka, what do you know about those letters across your chest?"

Dude looked at me and said "nukka, I know I paid 15 dollars for it. You wanna try and take it off me?" In his lap was the BIGGEST, BLACKEST, MURDEROUS (if that's a word) lookin' GUN in his lap I had ever seen in my life. Dirty Harry had NUTHIN on this dude.

I looked him square in his eyes. (I wasnnt' goin' out like no punk right?) I said to him: "NICE TO MEET YOU FRAT," turned around, and went on my FAT ARSED WAY.

listen......if it meant THAT much to to this guy to MURDER me for those letters, he was a 100% card carrying LIFETIME MEMBER in my eyes. Grandmama didnt' raise no fool. Im' alive today to talk about it. lol.

Smart man...

Freshman year, I bought a sonic boom of the south t-shirt. No one said anything to me. I bought it because I was supporting my band, not that I was trying to be apart of something I wasn't.

Did you wear it? And if so, WHERE did you wear it?

We understand that. Still don't want ya'll wearing our brand.

I like the things Delta, AKA, Zeta and SGRhos do in promoting sisterhood and service. Does it make it OK for me to want to wear their letters?

I understand what some of you all are saying about your band gear and all, but how does this differ from a fan of your school wearing Football, Basketball or Baseball gear? They are not members of the team, but where's the gear to support the team..........

I know when I was at SU, they sold authentic Baseball practice gear in the book store, but we didn't get upset if someone else had it on.

Now Frat Nalia is a whole different story........... LOL!!

because just like crossing a frat, we crossed the band. we had to earn the right to wear the bands paro. we(well in my years, and others on here) got our asses beat for the right. no different than a frat to me. keep it clean, when i was in school word on the street was if you crossed the band(MMW), you could cross anything.

now to me it's different with sports, because usually sports paro can be tied to the university, and sold in stores, as you stated. Band shirts are usually ordered only for members of the band, or made specifically for members of the band after they cross.

exactly, promotions and marketing are not needed. there is history behind my band letters, and they have a specific meaning that i worked my ass off for on the field AND off, i don't take kindly of just some random person wearing it. if you can't spit it to me what those letters are about, you might wanna take it off.

I guess I don't see a band being equal to a frat or sorority. But, it seems like many people equate them as the same.

Biff...you crazy bruh! LOL

But ummm I wouldn GAF if you donated money to the band, better put on a A&M T-shirt or whatever; straight-up, dont wear know MMW ish.

"Snake"

I don't know maybe its because I am not a band member.....

I know that in a Frat, A Phi A for example I would associate with my frats from LSU, USL, UNO etc. We were all Bruhs whether at an HBCU or not.

I "KNOW" for a fact that the KKPSI band Frat at SU don't have nothing to do with their KKPSI frats at LSU. It's like they are in two different Frats. I am sure that an LSU band member wouldn't want to whip no ones ARSE for wearing an LSU band shirt........... LOL.

Most non-band people don't understand. And that's fine. Just respect the issue when someone doesn't want a person wearing their band shirts.

Step in the shoes of a TRUE band freshman at a SWAC school (not talking about listening to stories of band members but TRULY experience it for YOURSELF) from the start of band camp through an entire football season (WITHOUT QUITTING), and I'll bet you and any other non-band person would have a better understanding then of why we don't want just anyone wearing our band shirts.

So wearing a shirt representing the band that may have been sold in the bookstore (with Sonic Boom of the South on it) is wrong?

Silentrage,

Hell no it ain't nothing wrong and if one of them band gangsta's approach you about............... "WHIP THEY MO-FOing ARSE"!!!:flamethro

Don't have my "BAND" shirt on................ "NUKKA PLEASE"!!:lmao:

I use to see alot of "Non-band" members wearing Sonic Boom of the South tee shirts on when I was on campus. They even marched "imitating" the band when the band would march up to the plaza.

so it's ok for me to purchase and wear a frat/soror shirt?

Ohh Ok. So you wouldn't have a problem wearing a SU band shirt on SU campus then?

Look ya'll. The bottom line is that it's a RESPECT thing. That's all. You have people who have gone through HELL-- LITERALLY--- to be able to wear their respective band shirts. So yes, some people would be offended if they saw a non-band person with it on and you haven't done anything to earn it--- especially when they've spent countless hours, sweat, tears (and sometimes blood) learning music, field shows and the whole scope of their band program. College band is NAYTHANG like when you're in junior high and school. It's a whole other level.

Now if you wear a SWAC (can't speak for the other HBCUs) band shirt and you are not apart of that program--- fine! I ain't 'gon fight you, cause it's not that serious. However, I am going to look at you like you're crazy. Therefore, if you don't want to be approached, questioned or looked at funny, just don't wear the shirt.

And you can turn up your nose and think it's foolish if you want. Just remember, there are people who are out there who think what you did to join your respective organization(s) was pointless and/or foolish as well, and may not even understand or respect the purpose of your organization(s).

 them ole skool Jukes would beat his ass to sleep.

"L" Nawwww they wouldn't!!!

Schyatt, when I was at SU then Dancing Dolls would give me a sorts of Band Nalia and schyatt.

It was kind of like their offering to the "Love God".......... LOL and running out of the room.:smoke:

I actually KNOW otherwise on this one TBJ. Just the same, I think the bottom line is "support" and "membership" are two totally different things.
