Band Nalia and people outside the band?

As far as band shirts, windsuits, and other band paraphanelia.. How do you feel about people outside of the band, WHO ARE NOT BANDMEMBERS or X BANDMEMBER of your university wear these things?


Me personally I get upset, it pisses me off to go up an say CAN U PLEASE TAKE THAT OFF, all the scarafice we do, all the hard work an dedication, all the stress and other BS that comes with it, and u wearin my shirt... i kinda treat it as somewhat of a Frat?
Why you got on a WF shirt when u never even stepped foot on a football field in a GSU Uniform?

Is that done at your schools, have you seen it, how do you feel? What would be done at your school?
 
Why would you wear something you are not apart of?


I understand support of the school, but wearing someones organizational shirt should be off limits.

There are some schools that have "BAND Supporters" shirts, but I think all official stuff should be left to the Bandsmen and EXBandsmen.
 



I have no clue who you're talking about but some people who have never gone to school wear stuff out of support....they have no clue that it would make someone upset.

I see where you are coming from, but I think that stuff like Band, Frats, etc are more specific than just wearing a PVAMU or Bama State shirt.

When they get those ugly looks or get approached, they'll soon learn.

And beside, Band nalia is normally only given out/sold to band folks. It'll be rare to see a band shirt sold in stores/in streets---- at least I haven't seen it.

When I was at JSU, I had a friend (who wasn't in the band) to ask if she could wear my Sonic Boom shirt. Let's just say she finally stopped asking me.
 
I see it both ways. Although I was not in the band @ JSU I understand the hard work you guys put in to put a product on and off the field. I also understand the fact that when most of you were crabs you had to earn the right to wear band shirts. For that I understand you reason for saying (Take that damn shirt off).

We all know that HBCU Bands is and can be a strong selling point for you University. So why not allow people to where the shirts. IF a 50 yr old parent want to see her baby and wears a Sonic Boom shirt to the game. Yall would make them take it off. :emlaugh:

That's different when you're talking about an elderly or a much older person. We wouldn't approach someone like that.

And we don't allow people to wear our shirts for the very reason you already stated: it's an earned right! If a crab has to wear white t-shirts through summer band camp through the end of a football season, what makes anyone think that we'd let or want anyone with zero SWAC band hours put on a shirt that bears our name? That's like me putting on my resume' that I got an MBA and ain't took no credit hours towards that advanced degree.

I'm not interested in ever wearing anything to do with a band, but if I were to support them finacially on a yearly basis as a sponsor. I would want to wear/have some gear and I wish a college student/band member would walk up to me telling me to take off my gear when I'm sponsoring them. Don't bite the hand that feeds yah, but as far as people who have nothing to do with the band. Hell no, don't wear that stuff...With the way the world is today, you may catch someone on the wrong day and they may shoot you over stuff like that. Telling them to take off their clothes
 
To me, that's like saying. If Grambling won a national championship and they had fans walking around campus wearing nat'l championship shirts and some of the football players told the fans "take that off, you didn't put any hard work or dedication into or season, so you don't deserve to wear that shirt"

What would be the difference between that band member and athlete.

I have never been apart of a band so that my be something I will never understand...

Ummmm, if you're sponsoring the band on a YEARLY basis, folks in the band 'gon KNOW you and won't have a problem when you're making real contributions and have ties to the band. We're talking about people who don't have ties to the band.

Gotcha, but like I said, you can't just walk up to anyone telling them to come out of their clothes. If they shoot you, they probably wouldn't get int trouble if they say they felt dangered...You never know these days

That's true. These days, you can't just do that.
But during MY days and earlier, you would get approached! :lol:

I remember being in the band at a game, and this boy was bold enough to walk down the side where the BOOM sits in Memorial Stadium with a JSU BOOM shirt on, and he wasn't a member (We tends to know our folks). I think that boy got cussed from the top of the stands where percussion sits down to the piccolos (where I was). Oh man, that poor child was lucky we were in the middle of a game (and couldn't leave) and not on the yard somewhere. :lmao:

Wow....Coconut jumped from behind the bushes? Those must have been his LATER years. He usually hit em' head on. A more laid back, sustained, kinder Cocunut? Wow!:winkgrin:
 



well i know if we caught sombody wearing a "S" when i was in the band and they wasnt in the band......the consequence could be very physical......when the dude who makes our shirts thought it would be a good idea to sell them to the public one year in the student union.....we stole all of them...... when we have a crab quit.....we go get his isht. it aint no game. you aint in it....you aint gone wear it. period. i have a lot of shirts and shorts that i didnt pay for when dudes quit i went and got em or told somebody to get them for me. its not a game. we went through hell to be able to wear those shirts.....you cant have it!:no:
 
and as far as sombody wantin to fight......or shoot.....you cant shoot a buch of people. you might get shot your damn self......and you would have to have a mean gun to shoot 200 people!:flamethro

Once upon a time, LONG LONG ago, at an HBCU campus FAR FAR away, a dude was sitting in his car wearing a GREEK LETTER FRATERNITY SHIRT. Problem: The dude in the car was NOT A MEMBER of the organization he bore on his chest.

Upon finding ME in the dining hall, the local campus instaugators and isht starters made me aware of the PERPETRATOR'S location.

I rose up like a bat out of h3LL and proceded to confront and test this PERP to see if he was legit. If not.....I was gonna whup his arse right? Remember, I was YOUNG and DUMB.

I stormed over to his car... looked inside....and said "nukka, what do you know about those letters across your chest?"

Dude looked at me and said "nukka, I know I paid 15 dollars for it. You wanna try and take it off me?" In his lap was the BIGGEST, BLACKEST, MURDEROUS (if that's a word) lookin' GUN in his lap I had ever seen in my life. Dirty Harry had NUTHIN on this dude.

I looked him square in his eyes. (I wasnnt' goin' out like no punk right?) I said to him: "NICE TO MEET YOU FRAT," turned around, and went on my FAT ARSED WAY.

listen......if it meant THAT much to to this guy to MURDER me for those letters, he was a 100% card carrying LIFETIME MEMBER in my eyes. Grandmama didnt' raise no fool. Im' alive today to talk about it. lol.

Freshman year, I bought a sonic boom of the south t-shirt. No one said anything to me. I bought it because I was supporting my band, not that I was trying to be apart of something I wasn't.
 
I understand what some of you all are saying about your band gear and all, but how does this differ from a fan of your school wearing Football, Basketball or Baseball gear? They are not members of the team, but where's the gear to support the team..........

I know when I was at SU, they sold authentic Baseball practice gear in the book store, but we didn't get upset if someone else had it on.

Now Frat Nalia is a whole different story........... LOL!!
