Band Nalia and people outside the band?

Schyatt, them "Jukes" are a close knit group, plus them NUKKA's roll too dayum deep to Ph-iz-uck with!!! :lmao:

200 + Nukka's goes into 40+ Nukka's (Baseball Team) as many times as they want to. Schyatt, Southern's Math even teaches you that............. :flamethro

LOL. True. I remember back in 84 when I was a crab, I had a couple of homeboys on the Football team that were upper classmen. I was visiting Grandison one day and I heard the upperclassmen football players tell their incoming Fr players that you don't fugg with the Jukebox because them nizzles are gangster. Hell for a moment I forgot I was in the band and it scared me all over again .:scared::lol:

Just like I knew when I hit the yard on A&M campus, not to walk up on any of the Greeks stones and sit on they bench if I wasnt a member. Didn nobody tell me that.

 an unspoken law.

you know the Ques at TnState had an issue with a chick(white chick) sittin on their bench a few years back. she claims that if the bench is out in the open, anyone should be able to sit. :smh: not sure thow the whole issue turned out though(Monieka could probably fill you in).

I actually plan to give it to him soon as I locate the box of memories from that year.

and you should.

Yeah JR Bruh, there were truly some "CRAZY... IGNANT" Mo-Fo's in the Juke Box. Doc had him a tribe of wild...... don't give a ph-iz-uck people in the band. :lmao: The Mo-Fo's would be just waiting for some schyatt to jump of, then bam!!!! You got you ARSE bum rushed and beat down.........

That ain't just Jukes! That's probably many (if not all) old-school (and some new school) SWAC band oldheads.

Crit, I bet you was one of the rowdiest Boom Members at JSU! :lmao:

You was one of them justing waiting for some schyatt to jump off. Chanting......... "Don't start none........ won't be none" and "Awwwwwwww, beat that B-I-Itch up............. beat that B-I-Itch up........... "!!!:lmao:

True.............but TBJ was there when we were all male and I think the Juke probably had more hard core gangster mofos(especially my boys from New Orleans) than the average band. I am not saying other bands had no fools. I just think the Juke being that we had no women and the New Orleans element had more fools than the rest. Not to mention our Band Director was a fool himself. My homeboys from Jackson who went on to JSU prayed for my safe passage in the Juke when I went there as a Fr. They just knew it was going to be ugly for me. They all had this look >>:scared:

Oh the things that went on that bandroom in the 80s.:shame:

:scared:

I wouldn't advise anyone to do it.

I know at Top Choice (SU band para supplier) you can't just walk in there and buy band gear if you are not a Jukebox member or ex Juke. I went in there and my boy Howard who owns the place had to tell them I was okay and they went to back to get the Alumni Juke shirts.

I remember when I was on the yard you would get tore from the frame if you wore a Jukebox shirt and you had not played in the band. Of course we were all male back then and I think the fear factor was at a different level than it is now. But I still would not advise it. I also think most folks who went to SU understand the Jukebox mentality and what it takes to get in the band and respect the rights and priveledges afforded to those who earned the right to wear the "S"

If you are a band booster then go by a shirt that says SU Band Booster/Supporter. But leave the real band shirts and regalia to the ones who earned it. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, when I read the original posting by the first poster, this is what came to my mind. A person wearing a shirt representing the band as in supporting the band. Not those as if they were in the band.

...I'own know why I thought you was SU, my bad. :noidea:

"Snake"

No worries. It's all good and good conversation. Hey, that's what this is about isn't it?

The simple solution to this issue is this: create, market, sell and distibute band paraphrenalia to ANYBODY who wants to buy it...

Th only difference is: the 'general public' para would be different than the 'members only' para...

You could sell some 'generic' band para to the public.
And then have some 'specific' band para for your members, alumni, etc.....

The PWCs do it all the time.......

Once upon a time, LONG LONG ago, at an HBCU campus FAR FAR away, a dude was sitting in his car wearing a GREEK LETTER FRATERNITY SHIRT. Problem: The dude in the car was NOT A MEMBER of the organization he bore on his chest.

Upon finding ME in the dining hall, the local campus instaugators and isht starters made me aware of the PERPETRATOR'S location.

I rose up like a bat out of h3LL and proceded to confront and test this PERP to see if he was legit. If not.....I was gonna whup his arse right? Remember, I was YOUNG and DUMB.

I stormed over to his car... looked inside....and said "nukka, what do you know about those letters across your chest?"

Dude looked at me and said "nukka, I know I paid 15 dollars for it. You wanna try and take it off me?" In his lap was the BIGGEST, BLACKEST, MURDEROUS (if that's a word) lookin' GUN in his lap I had ever seen in my life. Dirty Harry had NUTHIN on this dude.

I looked him square in his eyes. (I wasnnt' goin' out like no punk right?) I said to him: "NICE TO MEET YOU FRAT," turned around, and went on my FAT ARSED WAY.

listen......if it meant THAT much to to this guy to MURDER me for those letters, he was a 100% card carrying LIFETIME MEMBER in my eyes. Grandmama didnt' raise no fool. Im' alive today to talk about it. lol.

I damn near fell out of my chair when I read this. This was probably the funniest post I've read on TSPN.

Back to what I said in a previous post, if I was a supporter and I could buy a shirt to continue to support the band. I would wear it...We all know HBCU bands need the support...Like someone else said though, if I was a supporter finiancially then the members would know who I am.

Just like with the TSU baseball team, every year those players are going to know who I am with the Volunteer/monetary support that I provide every year...

I wasn't rowdy. Never have been. Not my personality. However, I was the type who took my frustrations out on crabs from time to time and strongly believed in motivating crabs.

I do recall Dowell Taylor having a company make Sonic Boom Fan T-Shirts back in the day......They sold VERY well...................

Also I see the Gerald Howard (Marchingsport.com) with his new Bandhead T-Shirts.................

Simple...and they make plenty of money doing it ... except that non-members only get the current year shirt if they also make a contribution to the band fund. It costs you extra to stay current. :pimp:

It could have been a woman wearing my shat, holding the iron, and I would have given her directions to the frat house.

As far as band shirts, windsuits, and other band paraphanelia.. How do you feel about people outside of the band, WHO ARE NOT BANDMEMBERS or X BANDMEMBER of your university wear these things?

Me personally I get upset, it pisses me off to go up an say CAN U PLEASE TAKE THAT OFF, all the scarafice we do, all the hard work an dedication, all the stress and other BS that comes with it, and u wearin my shirt... i kinda treat it as somewhat of a Frat?
Why you got on a WF shirt when u never even stepped foot on a football field in a GSU Uniform?

Is that done at your schools, have you seen it, how do you feel? What would be done at your school?

Back in the 80's, no one did it and no one outside of the organization felt comfortable doing it. Somewhere after that, I think cats started letting the ladies wear things and the next thing you no, high schoolers and everybody else walking around like they are official reps of the band they are wearing. So, today, you'll look crazy telling folks to take your stuff off.

Peace....

All in all, from what I've read and what I know at Southern, there is a distinctive difference between an band shirt and an "S." You can buy a band shirt..... You earn an "S". I myself(and a few of my CBs) had to go take a quitters shirts(2), shorts(1), and travel suit...... I remember it like it was yesterday. We kicked his door in and whooped his @$$ for fear of what would happen to our @$$e$!!!!!(Which we still got broke off cuz we was late returning to practice.)

Just to be clearer, all of my comments refer to wearing anything with the official band logo (the S with the note interlaced) or items specifically belonging to or from the band (uniform parts, band jacket, etc...). In fact, for those of you who remember Tiny (the lady in the shop) wouldn't put band logos on articles for non-band members. So, it was hard for non-band students to secure items that they shouldn't be wearing, unless they somehow got it from a band member or former band member.

I recall a young lady walking through the Union with a band t-shirt on. The upper-classmen walked up to her and politely informed her of her violation; offered her one of the t-shirts they were wearing in exchange for the band shirt she was wearing; went their separate ways after she came out of the rest room with the guys shirt on and after handing them the band t-shirt. Keep in mind, that was a day when there were no girls in the band and band items were treated like Greek items-you wore it if you had earned it not as a fan. Times have changed in a great way. So, I really wouldn't be surprised to see things the way they are for other extra-curricular units. For example, my parents didn't have any band gear to support me and the Juke back then. However, I own gear for every team that my son and daughter are members of today-official logo and all. So, whether I agree with it or not, the fact is that times have changed how that works and how that perceived.

Peace...

During my short stint at the "S", LOTS of people had shirts on that looked EXACTLY LIKE a "S," but on the back it had the drummajor-cartoon-guy doing a backbend and said "Check out the rocking, the stepping, the moving and the grooving...." or something like that on the back also. Talk about being scared at night time out front of them dorms..... Tryin not to make eye-contact so you can pretend you aint see them to avoid the "How you doing Sir?"..... Then sigh in relief once you see the back....
