I'll do my best to answer but you kind of lost me 😆.

Commitments - can be both high-school or college commits. They've committed to the university but not enrolled. This can be a verbal commitment or written commitment NLI (not to be confused with NIL)

Transfer Portal - only college student athletes can enter (not high-school related). Once a student athlete enter into the transfer portal that opens up the lines of communication between that student athlete and coaches only. This doesn't mean that the student athlete has transferred already. That student athlete can commit to another university while finishing up the semester at their previous university. Some get stuck in the transfer portal with no offers and remain at their previous school or stop playing all-together.

I don't know if that answered your question or not 🤔
Thanks. I be getting confused. lol It's so much going on now I can't keep up. lol

Just for the current academic term but not the following academic term.

I was actually thinking about a situation where a player is told to get in the portal but that player decides to wait until he graduates and then transfer. That's where I heard he'd keep his scholarship.

I think the confusion is because some schools go beyond what they are required to do in some cases and other schools will find ways to get that play off that scholarship. The timing of when the person is told to get into the portal is the key to understanding this and how it lines up with the school's academic calendar.

For example; there is a football player at the university of Mississippi that would not meet with the head coach because they stated they are going through mental health issues. They kicked the player off the team and the player sued (as he recorded him talking to the coach over the phone when he finally talked to the head coach), but the case was throw out in court but the university kept him on scholarship in order to avoid any other lawsuits. In other words they want the player to graduate and then go away because taking him off scholarship could trigger another lawsuit.

The other thing that comes into play is when the scholarship pays for the next semester. If the player is told to get into the portal and the scholarship already paid for the next semester then the school more than likely would be incline to let the student stay the next semester than having to go through the paperwork to revoke the scholarship. Now it has been reported that some schools will go and revoke that scholarship right after the meeting with the player notifying them that they want them to hit the portal and thus getting that player withdrawn from all their courses because they are treating the revoke of the scholarship as refund of the monies for the courses. dropped.

What all this means in my viewpoint is that the players have to be wise about the school that they commit to and ask the tough questions when they visit the schools. Lastly I want to say some schools will help a player find another school even when they tell the player to hit the portal because that helps free up a scholarship, but also helps creates goodwill with the player in question to some degree.

I'm guessing that if they do tell them to hit the portal and basically kick them out of school, that would be an APR hit.

Somebody help me out. I'm a little lost on the difference between the commitments vs the transfer portal thing. So does the commitment mean they are high school players saying they might sign vs the transfer portal folks saying they are at so so school mean they have already enrolled in that particular school? I understand the other transfer folks are on a wish an a prayer, but I see some transfer portal folks saying as an example it's been nice A&M. Alcorn I'm here. Thanks in advance for the clarity.

This thread is for JUCO and guys that transfer from other schools (FBS, FCS, D2, etc)

December NSD was created primarily for JUCO and HS guys that don't wanna wait until February to sign. Coaches primarily focus on JUCO guys who can enroll in January and get on campus. HS guys who are early enrollees can also sign during this time
