2008 Prairie View A&M Univ Football Notes

as someone who worked at two SWAC schools on opposite ends of the spectrum...the Bayou Classic means too much financially for SU or GSU to ever give up.....no FCS school can play on free TV (98% of homes in America)...

as for recruiting, Grambling doesn't suffer much in the recruiting department as they can get into anyone's household....we lost a kid to Appalachian State but anyone will tell you Appalachian State didn't become a household name until the Michigan win....

the playoffs may be a sell to some but the average high school kid on the street looks at name recognition

Like the TSU web site, you didn't provide a working link...show me the information and I'll toot the horn your waiting for me to toot...

You better believe I'll bring it up if someone mentions. AGS does a pretty good job, though sometimes they post crap from uneducated people who use the old nomenclature or call us "Div II", which is okay because it's not them that do it...

I guess you didn't see this one huh?

It was not a remark at the fact the SWAC not participating in the playoffs, it was more a reference to the fact that the teams that do actively compete for a national championship do not actively seem to care too much about their role in the subdivision.

And if you are lucky, the playoffs may lead to four straight weeks on ESPN or ESPN2. Doesn't hurt and if you get enough attention -- you may land two dates on ESPN2 during the regular season the following year, which is more readily available than ESPNU and without tape delay. ;)

No denying that, but Appalachian State is truly on the map now. I don't see why they come into play, but they are the three-time defending Division I national champion. That sounds like a pretty nice honor to have. And while Grambling may be able to get into "anyone's" household in football, can the same be said about other sports? Also, App St seems to find quite a few "diamonds in the rough" -- perhaps it doesn't matter if you are getting into anyone's households, but the RIGHT households. Most of their coaches have been there 12-15+ years.

Some kids on the street also look at what teams you play. The SWAC schools for the most part have not played the higher profile FBS teams. Grambling may have done so more than anyone else (Pac-10 and Big East schools in the last few years), but all the major FCS conferences actually have teams that have competed and won against FBS conferences. That's got to stand for something.

They also look at facilities -- I can only imagine the boost TSU will get when they "upgrade". Their current facilities aren't attractive, but if they get the deal with the Dynamo -- that'll be huge.

I made a remark. Surprised 89 Hen was the perpetrator on that one. C-Leb, how many "Div I" players did Johnnie Cole bring in this year?

A question worth asking now -- while I am not afraid to respond when proven wrong, will TSU fans be willing to eat crow when they begin to tumble this year? We know the DallasCowgirl won't because she'll make her annual exodus to following Jerry's team.

On the subject of PV -- we have one fan inparticular who is not excited in the least bit about playing at Blackshear Field, if that's where the Kats and Panthers are scheduled to participate...

http://www.katfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8613

Would the Panthers be interested in moving the game to Berry Center? Have they moved a home game in recent memory (outside of the LDC) to somewhere else in the Houston area?

LOL, Samantha acting like they draw fans for their home games and travel for road games.

Amazing how a TSU fan is hating on SHSU about attendance of all things. With them being in such a major city, you'd think they'd draw better than the what -- 3k to 4k that they draw? Can't say they travel well, especially if they do not put more butts in the seats than the local Madison-Worthing football game.

SHSU draws 9-10k at home games. We do not travel well (a few games as exceptions -- see any thing at SFA and of course, the Houston game in 2005).

The fan in question was more concerned about the field being worse than many HS facilities -- though someone responded the other bad field SHSU has competed on in the past was Valley's. Can't speak on either accord.

Berry Center would be a nice facility to play the game at though nonetheless. I wish it was a three-year deal with one home, one away and one neutral. Not even sure when the road contest is. Apparently, SHSU is hosting both Western Illinois and North Dakota State next year, so it'd make sense to travel to PV then.

I'm not hating on Samantha. Of all people you should know universities in the big city don?t draw as well as universities in small towns, so what's Samantha's problem?

TT, you know d@mn well Samantha don't average 9-10K for home games. If Samantha's web site was working I would have copied and paste Samantha's top 5 highest attended home games.

Do I have to remind you the game against Alcorn (Steve McNair was the QB) was your highest attended home game in Samantha's history and y'all been playing football for a long time, that game drew just over 16,000.

Other than the grass being a little high, the field is usually in pretty good shape.

First of all, try smacking on the 'other board'......

Second, this thread is about PVAM Football. No concern with sTu whatsover.Nice of you to tune in though. :retard:

PV has some nice looking kids; I really weren't paying attention to their practice/scrimmage.

I think the game against TSU will come down to field position, special teams, and defense. I think TSU will have the better special teams (kickers).

I really weren't paying attention to their practice/scrimmage.

Watch that lightning strike TSF. U were prolly taking notes and recording for old boy and crew in harris county/3rd ward lol. :retard: Doesn't matter though. If PV doesn't blow sTu out by 30+, I'll consider it a loss. :read:

U weren't "paying attention." :emlaugh: Surprised batman didn't have his robin w/ him. lol

Thanks to Panthro for coming over to the SHSU board and explaining his thoughts on the PV-SHSU game. I think our fans really need to hear it from a PV fan. I'm thinking that is the weather cooperates, SHSU-PV could draw 12,000 fans.

SHSU's web site is always working and updated!

SHSU averaged 9,469 in 2006. (Credit: http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/attendance/2006/2006_football_attendance.pdf). SHSU typically averages 9-10k.

Our attendance actually went to 9,627 (Credit: http://www.gobearkats.com/fls/19900/stats/football/2007-08/TEAMCUME.HTM) and that's surpising because we had no marquee OOC FCS game and because SFA, TXST and McNeese were on the road.

The SLC did us no favors in splitting up SFA and TXST, our two biggest draws annually. This year, we have all three (the two SLC Texas schools plus McNeese) at home plus PVA&M. The following year, we have NDSU which should be a draw -- Montana sure packed it in! I suspect we'll be over 10,000 this year.

Do I have to remind you the game against Alcorn (Steve McNair was the QB) was your highest attended home game in Samantha's history and y'all been playing football for a long time, that game drew just over 16,000.

We used to play at a stadium that didn't hold half of what Bowers did. Ever been to the old stone stadium, Prichett? May remind you of Durley Complex. Our soccer team has put football-like scores on TSU at Prichett over the last few years. Yes, I do know that Alcorn State was our biggest draw and of course, one of our biggest wins -- since we smacked McNair around on ABC-TV.

12K is a sorry number for SHSU/PV.....too many people from both schools within a 45-minute drive....ain't like either school has small enrollments

PV/SU drew that in Beaumont in 1998.....
