I'll agree with that.... But when there's no band show, and fans don't come, they weren't coming for the football game anyway. So I say "Let 'em stay at home".......
The only thing I have been saying on this tread has been this: The football game is the draw. The primary draw. The bands and the Miss Whatever Classic Pageant, and the President's Reception are all secondary........I'm not saying that the bandfs aren't important, because they are. I'm just saying that if you took away the bands and other 'extra' stuff, you'd still have a game, and people like me would show up. But if you took the game away, and just had a stadium with two bands and a couple of pageants and contests and stuff, the stands would be mostly empty. The game can survive without the band, but I doubt the band could survive without the football game......
And somebody asked whether there were any Classics that didn't make money? Well, I've got on for ya. The very first Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Classic was played in Jackson in 97 (I think). Jackson State and FAMU. And FAMU brought that army they call a band. The attendance at the game was low (less the 25,000), and the promoter (Walter Reed Enterprises) lost money.....And they hyped it up and everything (with commercials and claips of FAMU's band). Still not many people showed up. JSU won the game I believe, and Walter Reed lost money trying to move FAMU's 3rd Infantry.......
So you can lose money.......And obviously FAMU's band wasn't a big draw in Jackson.....then.......
