JSU Offensive Staff including the S&C coach

Exactly. We are too afraid to make the these kind of hires. Complacency. Just want to be good and not great. The times are changing.

Most FCS schools would be looking at the top D2 HCs or FCS coordinators who helped turn around a program. Only a fool would promote an assistant from a losing team.

We finished 5-5 furthermore it worked for SU and could work in our favor when the offense is fixed. I trust Ashley with this hire. He's proven himself to at least be competent thus far.

He went 18-24 at Benedict. Is that who you want going into living rooms between now and signing day?

Over a decade ago and at Benedict (they are not a school known for football). Many good head coaches started out losing. He is only a choice because of circumstance more than anything. Had he not already been on staff and proven as a DC as well as finish the season 2-1 he would not be in this position. He's in the right situation at the right time basically. I'd much rather a hire like you suggested but I do see why an AD would make a hire like this pending the offensive staff.

Three games isn’t big enough of a sample size.

You’re right. Two 6-5 seasons sandwiched ariund two 3-win seasons.
He has more resources, experience and don't have to play all those money games to balance the football budget. If he can get a decent offensive coordinator and QB, that will help him tremendously.

Why are you all of a sudden concerned about things JSU related? That same coach Hendrick had your team shut out for a whole half and only lost because of poor offensive play-calling that wore down the defense.

If you think this is just about JSU, you need to through some other threads I posted in lately...

The SWAC will never rise with these kind of hires. Most of this entire conference has been playing it safe and wasting money for too long.

Because I looked at overall record.

I think there is something to be said about a guy whose been in the game for as long as he has a never been a DI head coach.

He’s a very good DC, though.

Unlike we our past administration and AD, I trust Ashley to make a good hire this time.

So you had no confidence in ya'll last administration when some on here think they were the best and the IHL should have left them alone.

I had zero confidence in them as far as athletics. Now on overall management of the schoool. Meyers was aggressive and it showed but a person like that needs someone to keep them in check.

Nice come back. LOL!!!

Resources don't buy the credibility to attract quality assistants or good enough recruits.

Resources include money, reputation and attraction.
What Hendrick had to offer assistants while at Benedict in no way compares to what he could offer if he became the coach at JSU.
The school's reputation and history, plus the challenge to become successful at the FCS level far outweigh a D-2 school.
What you said makes no sense.

I'm not gone sit here like other JSU posters and try to defend or make sense of Hendrick possibly being the head coach, its sad that we are basing this off being better than hughes or hal, smh a low bar, Ashley and bynum didnt want to do the work and make a bold hire, all this in Ashley I trust is BS, Bynum still the AD. Smh Jackson State is still failing at Hiring competent folk.

So did Alabama State's current coach.

Why would you listen to the players who lost all those games?

Nobody is listening to players. Hughes was the problem. Most alums are comfortable with Hendrick. Hendrick has the #2/3 defense in the conference without any help from the offense. We are keeping the defense and revamping the offense. BAMA State kept their bad offense.
