Rybarikova one set ahead


Let's quickly take a look at our other quarter-final under way between Magdalena Rybarikova and Coco Vandeweghe. The unseeded Slovakian had no problem serving out the first set 6-3 and we're on serve in the second.

Konta into the semi-finals


Johanna Konta reaches the Wimbledon semi-finals with a gutsy display of tennis against the tenacious Simona Halep. Konta has the steely Romanian on the run as she serves out the match. Halep is really digging deep to find a way past but Konta sets up match point with a crosscourt winner. The British No.6 seed completes a 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4 win when Halep fails to make a return in a slightly confusing moment. Nonetheless, Konta goes through.
 
Still raining - looks like they are moving Coco's match to centre court.

Wimbledon 2017: Andy Murray loses to Sam Querrey in five-set quarter-final


Defending champion Andy Murray was knocked out of Wimbledon in the quarter-finals by American 24th seed Sam Querrey on Centre Court.

Querrey, 29, won 3-6 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-1 to become the first American to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009.

The Briton, 30, led by a set and a break but lost 12 of the last 14 games as he appeared to struggle physically.

Querrey "in a state of shock"


Sam Querrey soaks in his achievement today. "I'm still in a little bit of shock. I'm so thrilled just now. I didn't start my best but kept swinging away and found a groove in the fourth and fifth set. This is a dream come true to be in the semi-finals and for it to be at Wimbledon makes it even more special." Remember, he is the first American male this decade to be in a Grand Slam semi-final.

Showing a never-say-die spirit, the wounded Murray charges down a forehand and hits a winner, facing three match points. But Querrey's subsequent ace gives the American the match and after 42 Grand Slam appearances he finally makes a major semi-final

Cilic through to face Querrey on Friday


At the 11th attempt, Marin Cilic of Croatia reaches the last four at The Championships. He was the US Open champion of 2014 but this is only the third occasion he has gone this far at any major. Cilic has won in three and a half hours, Muller beaten on an unreturnable first serve. He roars his approval having won 3-6, 7-6, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Would you make him favourite against Sam Querrey on Friday? You'd probably have to.

Venus pockets first set

A couple of unforced errors from Konta put her in immediate trouble at 0-30 as she serves to stay in the set. And now a tense crosscourt forehand flies well wide to set up three set points for Venus. Second serve - on the baseline - unreturned. 15-40. First serve in, but Konta loses the rally when an uncontrolled backhand bounces long and wide.

Venus into the final!

Konta drives a forehand wide and faces match point. Williams winds up to slam a forehand winner - is this her moment? No! She nets. Konta's unforced error on the forehand - a few too many of those today from her - gives Williams a second match point. Good first serve and we're back to deuce. Konta's fourth double fault of the day gives Williams a third chance and this time a clinical forehand pass completes the job. Graciously, Centre Court applaud this evergreen superheroine of the modern era. A month past her 37th birthday, Venus Williams is the oldest Wimbledon finalist since Martina Navratilova in 1994.

The match really did turn on that break point for Konta at 4-4 in the first set with Venus hitting that big second serve.

She never looked back, it almost relaxed her.

She was just too solid. Konta couldn't find the openings she usually does.


Game, set and match Williams

Venus Williams spots a sliver of space down the line and thumps a winning forehand down the corridor and in at the back.

Venus Williams heads off the court wreathed in smiles. Johanna Konta, bottom lip less than rock solid, heads off to contemplate how many more chances, better-quality opportunities, she will get to make a Wimbledon final.

Venus loves Wimbledon. She adores Wimbledon, and likes being here playing on Centre Court.

What happened in the last few days, it would have been so much fun on an anniversary year for a British player to win, but we loaded Jo up.

All of the pressure has been on her and the others have gone under the radar. No-one had given Venus too much strife.

I owe Venus Williams an apology. I was one of those numbskulls who said that Venus was washed up. Well, she showed me didn't she. She made the finals of the Australian Open and now is in the finals at Wimbledon. I am hoping and praying that she wins, but even if she don't, this has been a remarkable achievement. You go Venus.
