No, he has turned back to the USTA - his career has gone like this - USTA - career moves in the right direction, parents - progress stops, then back to the USTA, progression, back to the parents - regression.

I think he is getting to old, but I wish him the best. I am happy that he has stopped trying to be cool with his hat twisted on his head and is focusing on tennis, I hope he keeps his career going up, but he is getting up there, I think he is 28.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands hurts knee in fall; Karolina Pliskova out in upset

http://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/id/19863864/wimbledon-women-results-thursday

American wild-card entry Bethanie Mattek-Sands suffered a frightening knee injury during her Wimbledon match Thursday, and Karolina Pliskova, one of the tournament favorites, is out after an upset loss.

Moving toward the net in the opening game of the third set against Sorana Cirstea of Romania, Mattek-Sands slipped and fell. She immediately clutched her right knee and could be heard screaming in pain and sobbing.

Mattek-Sands stayed down in the middle of Court 17 and was attended to by medical personnel. She was forced to retire from the second-round match and was taken to the hospital.

Players Pull Out at Wimbledon, and Calls for Reform Flood In

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/06/...prod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

It is a particular problem on the men’s side. Since Wimbledon in 2007, there have been 237 aborted matches in the men’s singles draws at Grand Slam tournaments, accounting for 4.58 percent of matches. There have been only 85 in women’s matches, or 1.64 percent.

After two rounds at Wimbledon, the men have had eight or more retirements for the 11th time at a Grand Slam event in the past decade. The women have never had more than six in that span of 41 tournaments.

One common suggestion from the panel and the players is for the Grand Slam events to adopt a rule recently put in place on the ATP Tour: Players are allowed to withdraw from tournaments twice per season and still keep the first-round prize money they would have earned had they taken the court. A lucky loser from the final round of qualifying would fill the spot in the draw, gaining additional compensation with a win.

Though players rarely admit that they are playing a Grand Slam event solely for the prize money, the financial realities are clear. In recent years, prize money has soared at the majors, particularly for early-round losers. Players rely on those checks to sustain an entire season.

Venus marches on

Well it just wouldn't be Wimbledon without a Williams and we have one into the quarter-finals as Venus Williams completes a very straightforward 6-3, 6-2 win over Ana Konjuh. Venus salutes her win with a twirl at the net and takes the applause from Mum Oracene, who is on her feet in the box. Venus reached the last four in 2016 and there are plenty of seasoned tennis experts saying the 37-year-old could go all the way this time around. Venus looked in fairly unstoppable form on the grass and Konjuh, touted as a future Grand Slam winner, couldn't find a way to tackle her today.

I'm definitely pulling for Venus but I think Muguruza will win it all. She's solid and very tough. She upset Serena last year at the French open finals. BUT I would love for this to be Venus' swan song with a win!

The American fans in the Court 18 crowd seem to have had a fun day and are now celebrating a win for Sam Querrey. The No.24 seed ended the challenge of Kevin Anderson 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3, 7-6(11), 6-3 win. Querrey faces Andy Murray next.

Djokovic last man into quarters

Novak Djokovic is milking the crowd after booking his place in his 39th Grand Slam quarter-final. It wasn't always easy but the No.2 seed was able to complete a 6-2, 7-6(5), 6-4 victory against Adrian Mannarino, who played his part in this entertaining match on Centre Court. Djokovic is through to the last eigth, where he will meet Tomas Berdych next.

Venus is up next on Centre Court

Muguruza first into the semi-finals

Garbine Muguruza is into the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second time. A big serve and another forehand pushed long by Kuznetsova took the Spaniard to 30-0. But Muguruza forgot to move her legs and nets at 30-15, then snatches a volley into the net at 30-30. An ace steadies the tremours at 40-30 and when Kuznetsova goes long that's the match 6-3, 6-4. Muguruza lost the title here in 2015 but she's put herself right back in contention on that performance.

Venus into 10th semi-final

Venus Williams is into her 10th Wimbledon semi-final. It was a bit of a capitulation from Jelena Ostapenko in the end - missed returns the culprit at the last - and Venus comes through a 6-3, 7-5 winner. The dream of a sixth Wimbledon crown goes on!
