Celebration Bowl Game Thread: Grambling vs. North Carolina Central

And JMU couldn't stick w/ Bama fall 2016 D-I vs D-I. I don't understand the point some are attempting to convey. We can play the "what if" game from here to next year but realistically, this is the WHAT IS game - Grambling St is THE HBCU D-I National champion. Period. No ifs ands or buts about it.

It must be really hard to say "congratulations GSU" w/out additional and quite rhetorical venom being spewed. smh

JMU isn't FBS. That wasn't a smart comparison.

Why would I be mad about GSU winning? Im ecstatic they won because its more exposure for the SWAC and hopefully more players would want to go to our schools.

I was just making a damn opinion but yall are on yalls periods in here. That game yesterday was ugly. HBCU teams play sloppy, undisciplined, & our players look like high schoolers compared to the size of other teams. Just calling it what it is, its a reason the SWAC and MEAC are ridiculed.

Tuskeegee doesn't seem to have the same problems we do, as they can compete with any team in D2. Maybe the SWAC and MEAC should move to D2

I'm really beginning to believe some our schools (HBCUs) are offering degrees in how to teardown other Black folks while praising White folks. I really hope Ben Carson can change that Section 8 mentality.

You don't know shit about me. I teach and coach low income BLACK kids in Atlanta. Im surprising my students with gifts next week at their home because they all live with single moms and they won't get that many gifts otherwise.

I've told my football players countless times they need to apply and attend HBCUs because those big PWI schools don't give a damn about us. But continue to make dumbass assumptions about me.

And you're right...HBCU football is SEC level and is immune to criticism, and anyone who gives an honest personal opinion about HBCU football is a uncle Tom. My bad

I heard Section 8 nookie is pretty good. Maybe we can get Ceedog and a few others in here to tell us how good it is. There's nothing like playing the surrogate father's roll for Christmas to get some good Section 8 nookie during the holidays. I can hear the gossip line now, "Gurl I gave the coach some, because he worked miracles with my son".

@CEE DOG

You can get mad at dude but he isn't lying one bit lol. The quality of play was pretty terrible but an OK game nonetheless.

I was shocked attendance was listed at nearly 31,000. For those who have been to a lot of past classics there with TSU, FAMU, Southern etc drawing in the 50,000 range it did not look like 30,000. On tv you're looking at a 70,000 seat facility that looks empty. So it can look a bit off. Some of the other FBS bowls with similar or lower attendance are not played in as large a venue, sometimes around 30,000, so it does not look as bad. I think some people who are critical remember the Heritage bowl that often had marquee matchups but it did not last. It was not getting 40,000 to 50,000 with those matchups?

I think the proper perspective is that it's just YEAR 2. If the ratings hold I think that satisfies a big requirement but being billed as a national championship this should also be a platform for black college growth. So I think attendance is very important.

Another box to check is putting a competitive product on the field two years in a row.

Most will agree JSU, SU, Bama schools, FAMU, SCSU gonna be the best draws....But long term this game can't be dependent on that as you will get other matchups. If the MEAC, SWAC as well, want this game have the conference leaders, presidents and ADs implemented a real set of plans for all member schools to market this game and sell tix with their respective communities? Not trying to be funny but how many people outside of Grambling and NCCU folks can say their athletics departments have really tried to brand and sell the game? The ideal matchup attendance wise would be SU vs FAMU and Jsu vs SCSU & Vice Versa

The main people complaining their team wasn't even close to even sniffing a championship, hilarious lol

And they praise some D2 school who used to beat their FCS school on a regular, which was not that much of a big deal since their school is consistently mediocre at best in the SWAC. The same D2 they praised, barely beat a lowly FAMU this year. Can we say Section 8 type bitterness when it comes to Black folks.

My question to you... What is considered undisciplined and sloppy? If you are referring to the amount of penalties, the SEC and other conferences commit the same amount of penalties. You rarely hear about SWAC players getting into alot of off the field problems. GSU graduate 80% of their players. Every team that play football play sloppy from time to time.

That is bull for you to say that HBCU are undisciplined when they produce 90% of your top black professionals.

If you want to see those teams, it is easy just WIN.

True. I am sure we all can pick out some low scoring FBS (P5) games throughout the years. GSU and NCCU were the best HBCU programs fighting defensive battle. Yes, I wish it had been more scoring and excitement, but hey, it wasn't. So what.

What the hell does black professionals have to do with being undisciplined?

Im talking on the field. A kid cost his team the game in the championship because he wanted to celebrate. Im not saying that doesn't happen with the big boys, but its the biggest game of your season and you have to know better

What about the the player that didn't block the guy that blocked the extra point? Football is a team sport right?

And 4.7-4.8K enrollment GSU isn't a 22K enrollment school like JMU either. "That wasn't a smart comparison."

Think man. Think. And simply say "congrats GSU."

Thinking doesn't ever come into play they're just attempting to win an argument to support THEIR position that they are right and than when that realize they can't escape the fact that they aren't right they'll say something childish like "I know that" ROTFLMBAO ! !!!

Man I was reading one go off about the attendance on a post of mines on FB and no matter what data people came up with he was convince we could have P5 numbers the second year of this event and that we were just simple ole colored folks settling .

When I found out that fool was from sTu (no shades) I drop my tablet on the floor and went to the restroom to take a shit. True story .

I said congrats to GSU on facebook and instagram as soon as the game was over. I come here to talk sports.
JMU and GSU are both FCS schools. Comparing JMU (FCS) to Bama (FBS) isnt a good comparison.
Are you implying enrollment numbers mean something important? if thats the case then we need to drop to D2

Bama St prolly needs to drop to D-2 since they cannot beat a d-2 skegee team and since the SWAC W runs up and through them annually :D . Couldn't agree w/ you more. Bama St should go d-2.

Just looking at the numbers, they might need to drop to NAIA. At that level, they would really be fiscally responsible like the dude who started the other thread stated.
