I Have to Disagree with Alcorn's Editor on the Steve McNair Article.

^^^^^^^^That's scary as hell.

One size doesn't fits all but when comes to that aspect of recruiting. HBCU schools tends to lean heavy on the tradition on what happen decades ago. Kids cant relate because most wasn't born.

I think uniform aspect will have impact on recruiting. You don't think some kids attend Oregon because of the nice uniforms? The personalized school gloves and etc. Who does the SWAC have their contract with? Grambling and Southern are only 2 schools. I am talking about the entire conference. Uniforms are horrible along with the performance. Uniform does not improve the play but it will give us an opportunity for us to steal a few players. Fashion is everything in today's generation.

Its proven but having a home and home would create more rivilaries which would be a recruiting tool to steal some of the local athletes. Most of these classic people only care about the events that's going on around the game. Our schools playing in a huge stadium and the stadium looks empty and dead on tv. that's not good at all. The Florida Classic and Magic City Classic are the only 2 classic i can see keeping around.

I understand what Braveheart is trying to say but he don't know how to get his point across. HAHAHAHHA

Alcorn had some exciting teams with McNair. That era should be remembered.

They have some excellent teams during the '70s. The defenses were especially outstanding. That era should be remembered too.

Is anyone else bothered by watching a SWAC football game on ESPNU...All the announcers seem to do is mention about the bands and the former SWAC greats we have had in the 70s 80s and early 90s...but nothing about whats currently going on with the program. HBCUs have leaned on the past so much that it is sickening...I appreciate what the SWAC greats did for the conference during their time and after but continuing to talk about what was done in the past without doing hardly anything at all to surpass what they did is the reason why the SWAC conference is nothing more than a GLORIFIED DIVISION 2 conference in Old FCS clothing...

I for one will look at the moves my alma mater has made which is nothing to serious to make us competitive with Non HBCU programs on daily basis.. Its down right sad how stuck in the past we are as a conference.

Lol..man you aint never lying on that one...it's good to bring up the old greats, but dayum at every broadcast...I agree they could show some light on some previous good players...but I mean it's not like we have alot to talk about from these schools though...so I can see their reason for speaking on the old players alot and I see your view as well

You can only go on your own personal experience, I can tell you for a fact, that SU doesn't sell the school base on what players have done in the past and I seriously doubt other schools are like you think.

This sounds more like personnel taste than anything else, clearly you have no evidence to the contrary. If uni's are such an impact, than why is it Alabama and LSU are always getting the top recruits?

Again you can only speak of you personal experience, and to say that's it proven that a home and home create more rivilaries is confusing to say the least. Most classics began because they out grew their home venue and just because one may not have a capacity crowd and you feel some sort of embarrassment as an hbcu alum, doesn't warrant them not being played.

That's the talk of someone that has absolutely no clue of the economic or recruiting impact of the game.

Like I said, it's scary as hell that you understand anything he says.

Schools uses uniforms as a way to attract student athletes to their program. Most but not all of these schools do not have the steady winning tradition..and some of the traditional powers who have slip with the younger generation use uniform combinations to attract some of the recruits they have lost in the past....LSU, Alabama are traditional winning programs who do not need to use uniforms to attract talent besides those schools have some of the best facilities in the nation.

SWAC programs and the SWAC office needs to do a better job of promoting what we have now and attracting to the younger generation of kids and atleast become an option instead of a last resort to the majority.

They could at least talk about the recent great players that graduated within the past 5-10 years.

This is about to piss some people off but oh well...

Why do Sororities and Fraternities welcome new members each and every year? Yes, the Founders founded the fraternity and Sorority. You always show respect to the Founders and history...but in the Same Token, it is the responsibility of the new members to ADD to the Legacy. You never stop at one historic achievement or accomplishment. You keep adding and adding and adding and adding....you get the point. The Founders did their part but they want living members to contribute positively in the name of the fraternity or sorority long after they are dead and gone.

Same thing for HBCU Football. I love what Steve did...but that was almost 20 years ago. We got too satisfied and lazy. Thought we had reached the pinnacle of college football. We lost our hunger for achievement. It's like we have a fresh cooked steak in front of us but because we seasoned and froze one a while ago, we want the frozen one more than the one in front of us.

It has nothing to do with personal experience at all. you only speaking from a SU perspective. I know at least 6-7 black schools that lean on history and the pass to recruit kids. The history, the football program itself and the quality of education. Maybe the depth chart.

Once again it has nothing to do with personal taste. Checkout this article. http://www.si.com/more-sports/2011/12/28/uniforms

LSU and Alabama have a winning tradition. always in contention for national title. Kids gon always wanna go there. Black schools need more ways to attract better talent. Uniforms would be a good pitch. i took 2 of my nephews to a black college game last fall. They both D1 talent. they laughed at the BS they saw.

They out grew their venue BACK IN THE DAY. The quality of football has gone down and so has attendance.

So updating or creating Oregon-like jerseys will bring the kids back? With the Power 5 prepping for a power move and paying athletes could be coming down the pike, uniforms aren't the only thing our schools need.

:topic: Broussard and I are in the same age range (35-37). I do feel that the thought process on the administrative side has been old and stagnant. The decision making needs to get younger, fresher and more aggressive. I've always said we can't have a church dinner mentality when running a multi million dollar business

Prolly 65-70 years old. Nobody under 50 i bet

Praire View has a young AD so does Southern....PV AD is from Jackson. And I have spoke with SU AD on plenty occasions he is a good AD and is doing the right way at SU. The problem is other schools arent following suit and the presidents are really interested in Athletics.

I know uniforms ain't the only thing our school needs. It don't take a rocket scientist to figure that out but uniforms will be a good pitch. Especially to the kids that are at least considering attending an HBCU.

Your last statement is what we doing....Broussard is doing the best he can but even some of his ideas arent being received fully by the administration. It takes a receptive audience to make changes as well...

Hicks at AAMU is a younger guy. There's probably a couple more sprinkled throughout the conference.

But we all know what happens when old folks see younger people trying to achieve new heights of accomplishment...

That's completely true (and I've seen some of it happen). People don't realize that the administration and your athletics administration have to be in lockstep moving forward to progress things with some kind of vision. In higher ed, no department is an island onto itself.

Bryan Hicks my frat bro is 47 and he is another one who is trying do some things...But the HBCU culture is a the main culprit of the non success and growth. Along with understaff under funded programs and bad hires.

Young folks don't give any money so until they do, older people who can keep getting to that old money will stay in office. You MUST be in touch with the $$$.
