I Have to Disagree with Alcorn's Editor on the Steve McNair Article.

I thought I was the only person who did that  (I also do it to half of the Lynch Street people once they derail a thread)

Bluedog nailed it  McNair finishing 3rd in the Heisman pretty much made the NCAAA come up with the Walter Payton award. Can't be having any scares like that happening again  He was averaging video game stats that hadn't been seen since the Satellite Express that has only been remotely approached by Bruce so you know it might be a while before we see the old SWAC come back (40-50 points a game).

At some point, Alcorn has to give him a statue or possibly renaming the field or something (maybe something as simple as a historical marker)

I think there's a street on the campus named for Steve.

...but the kids we have on campus NOW SHOULD NOT have to live in MCNair's Shadow. ONE OUTRIGHT championship from 1991-1994. That's it. No Dynasty, No Nothing. Football is a team sport. Look at what Doug Williams did his first stint at Grambling. THREE Championships. That is a dynasty. Hopson is building a TEAM in the position to be a DYNASTY. TEAM, TEAM, TEAM. You do realize that if John Gibbs wins one Championship, he will already equalize McNair. Leave Steve in History Alcornites. We have a team that in my opinion, is already in better shape than those McNair teams from 1991-1994.

I guess AAMU players shouldn't have to live in John Stallworth's shadow.

Or Brick Haley's.
Or Robert Mathis'
Or Howard Ballard...

Come on fam.

Out of all the moronic things you have posted on here, this ranks right at the top. This shows an absolute ignorance of the program you claim to love and passionately follow.

Man, if he would have sat during one quarter of the 93 game or the 94 game vs SU, he probably wouldn't have started this thread.

...and you know low key a winning Alcorn Football team means tougher recruiting for SU. Just tell it how it is. You want Alcorn to remain on McNair so we can't move forward. Reverse psychology does not work on me. Try again.

McNair might be the only thing to get your athletes to step up. They want to be compared to greatness. Lately, the best they have been able to do is come in third in the EAST. They ain't on McNair's level yet. They need to keep striving. We need another McNair. SWAC football was the schiznit back then! Alcorn's yard may never see those days again. I was there when McNair played and I was there for the FIRST game on Reservation after he went to the NFL. Grambling tapped that azz and it was never the same.

This is the perfect example, of why some of our schools are dying a slow death. We have some young educated uneducated alum, who claim to love and honor their history, but in the same breath belittle and dismiss the accomplishments that were made, while denying that''s what they're doing.

On the one hand you have one spewing the same old tired daily ignorance, and on the other, one vomiting the same repetitive stench that they heard from white folks.

No matter how many times that they've been proven that they're wrong, (with facts) they relentlessly continue spreading their ignorance, under the delusion that they actually have something to contribute.

I'm sure there's a word to describe these types of people, (although I can't think of one) somebody far smarter than I maybe can help me with that, and in turn give me a better understanding of this type of psychosis.

Steve McNair accomplish what no other QB in Alcorn's history ever have, ( Maybe SWAC history as well ) he won two SWAC championships, took his teams to two division 1AA playoff appearances, and was a legitimate Heisman candidate that finish in third place, during his period at Alcorn.

In the process he not only put Alcorn on the map, but brought the SWAC brand to even higher recognition.

It's amazing that in the day of the information super hwy, how ignorance still flourish in our community.

Clearly there are several factors the attribute to this, three of which seems to be a constant.

1) Plain old fashion lazy and triflingness ( if that's a word )

2) Self hate ( regardless of how much they claim that it isn't so)

3) Absolutely no sense of real pride.

not only that he broke the Color Barrier for Black QB's...McNair was the 1st Black QB to EVER be taken in the top 3 of the draft. He opened the doors for guys like Vick, McNab and the current day QB's like Cam Newton & Russell Wilson

...and Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Auburn, and Stanford have all left them in their place in history and have moved on. Alcorn needs to do the same with Steve. Call me an idiot now but I'll be right later. You can't stop at one great player or team. We have to keep adding and adding and adding....

If the SWAC wants to move forward, we do not need another McNair. What need is top to bottom, all phases of the game near perfection-type football TEAM that can compete against FCS. Individualism will not cut it in today's time.

Yeah right, like Syracuse don't talk about Jim Brown and Ernie Davis
Auburn doesn't talk about Bo Jackson
Stanford doesn't talk about Jim Elway
and Virginia Tech doesn't talk about Bruce Smith

GDAFOHWDBS ....

Those great players built the foundation for the program's current state. Those things are called "selling points" for young players to come your school and build on the tradition.

So you think Hobson's not using Steve McNair's or Donald Driver's accomplishments as part of recruiting to potential athletes. If you think no, then you're an idiot.

Nope, they shouldn't. You as an individual team determine your own success. Spady has his specific way of doing things. You show what those players did but do not live off of that alone. You stay hungry. You keep building up as a program.

If you had a McNair on that team last year, you would have been SWAC champs instead of THIRD in the EAST.

You're trying to twist my commentary. Answer me this: how did that 2003 SU Football team help the 2013 team that won the SWAC?

I'm not downplaying what Steve did INDIVIDUALLY but to say from top to bottom those 1991-1994 teams were the best four years of Alcorn Football is a reach. One Outright Championship from 1991-1994.

If Spiller, Hughes, and Donald Carrie had ANY TYPE of efficient coaching, they win at least two SWAC Championships. Steve as an individual will never be surpassed. Those 1991-1994 teams as a whole on the other band can be surpassed.

Just imagine Johnny Manziel winning just ONE SEC Championship on his resume vs. AJ McCarron resume for a more up to date comparison.

Both Texas A&M and Bama will move on from both. But don't Championships last forever.

we all understand that but to belittle McNair to get your point across is the wrong move

How I am belittling Steve? I would hope that we are not trying to separate Steve from the 1991-1994 teams he was a member of. There is no I in team. Peyton Manning is one of the greatest QBs of all time but he still got his ass kicked in the Super Bowl. No one player is above a team.

Do yall think traditions are hurting HBCUs? like we cant move forward because we stuck on traditions. it nothing wrong with traditions but some traditions needs to be broken. Just asking a question

What said traditions need to be broken?

being stuck in the past and what happen back in the early 70,80 and early 90s til the point where its hurting us now. I think we are in trouble if we keep using these old players as selling points when it comes to recruiting. Hiring these old coaches is something we need to get away from or hiring somebody because they have ties to the school. The same with uniforms and equipment. Its 2014 There's no doubt college football uniforms are getting weirder and weirder, however we need to get more creative with the designs. its a selling point. We still stuck on tradition with the uniforms. I also think we need to get away from the classics. Just have a home and home. its a rack of stuff. just trying to keep it short.

BTW i somewhat understands Braveheart point.

Your point have some merits, but I think that depends on the schools and it's presentation. One size doesn't fit all

Hiring these old coaches is something we need to get away from or hiring somebody because they have ties to the school.

That has more to do with recycling, than it does tradition. I'm with you 100% on that.

Obviously you miss the big stink about the Uni's for last year Bayou Classic, they were pretty radical.

Having said that, at the end of the day, I don't believe uni's help in recruiting at all, and they certainly don't help on the field of play.

I also think we need to get away from the classics. Just have a home and home. its a rack of stuff. just trying to keep it short.

Why would you abandon something that's proven? That makes absolutely no Cent$. Are other schools giving up their bowl games, just because there's a playoff system now in place?

No! But I'll give you a hint of what they are doing.

Throughout the years the State Fair Classic has been played on alternating dates between the last Saturday in September and the first Saturday in October. The game was played on the first Saturday in October the past three years, but the 2014 matchup is scheduled to be played Sept. 27 – the last Saturday in September.

Wash said he was told by officials of the State Fair of Texas that starting 2015 the State Fair Classic would be played on the first Saturday in October “from here on out,â€￾ with the intent to establish another football game – the Heart of Dallas Kickoff Classic – to be played during the State Fair of Texas preceding the annual Texas-Oklahoma football game.

^^^^^^^^That's scary as hell.

Hey bluedog,

What you don't understand, once they start selling punany at concession stands, you will probably understand BH123 point. Just by adding punany to the menu would bring in an unprecedented amount of revenue.

"Can I get some nachos in a punany bowl with extra cheese & chili, jalapenos, and a large coke".

Price Breakdown:
Punany bowl - $525.00
Nachos with extra cheese, chili, and jalapenos - $10.00
Large Coke - $5.00

**Bowls do come in different sizes.
