I Have to Disagree with Alcorn's Editor on the Steve McNair Article.

Why do Sororities and Fraternities welcome new members each and every year? Yes, the Founders founded the fraternity and Sorority. You always show respect to the Founders and history...but in the Same Token, it is the responsibility of the new members to ADD to the Legacy. You never stop at one historic achievement or accomplishment. You keep adding and adding and adding and adding....you get the point. .

But that is because we know we are resting the shoulders of some great and revered people. That's ONE of the reasons we do what we do... for THEM and what they had to endure to make our organizations possible.

Young folks don't give any money so until they do, older people who can keep getting to that old money will stay in office. You MUST be in touch with the $$$.

Same can be said for PWI programs but some are still able to do the things at a more progressive rate than HBCUS.

Praire View has a young AD so does Southern....PV AD is from Jackson. And I have spoke with SU AD on plenty occasions he is a good AD and is doing the right way at SU. The problem is other schools arent following suit and the presidents are really interested in Athletics.

Remember last year PV's AD was our AD

Ashley was in school the same time i was so I know he's in his mid-30's.

Dianthia Ford-Kee (current AD) graduated from Fayetteville State in 82 so that places her in her mid-40's (which is considered young by some of yall on here). Like I've said with our pres, I want to give them a few years and then judge them

It has nothing to do with personal experience at all. you only speaking from a SU perspective. I know at least 6-7 black schools that lean on history and the pass to recruit kids. The history, the football program itself and the quality of education. Maybe the depth chart.

Name the schools and the recruiting trips that you were on when you witness it. While you're at it, name the PWC's that don't use that as a recruiting tool, since you claim to know this first hand.

Once again it has nothing to do with personal taste. Checkout this article. http://www.si.com/more-sports/2011/12/28/uniforms

LSU and Alabama have a winning tradition. always in contention for national title. Kids gon always wanna go there. Black schools need more ways to attract better talent. Uniforms would be a good pitch. i took 2 of my nephews to a black college game last fall. They both D1 talent. they laughed at the BS they saw.

Lasted I looked, ( and I live in Baton Rouge La., ) LSU Sucked before Nick Saban. So what did Nick do to get them there? Show them pictures of fancy uniforms?

Either way you slice it, you're contradicting yourself, and if a kid is coming to your school largely in part because of a uniform, odds are he/she ain't shit.

They out grew their venue BACK IN THE DAY. The quality of football has gone down and so has attendance.

Again spoken like someone who has absolutely no clue of the impact these games have, and clearly not being able to differentiate between Classic born out of rivalries and those created by promoters.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the first year of moving its football championship and basketball tournament to Houston, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced today that it received a significant increase in attendance for both events.
The football championship and basketball tournament combined, including events sponsored by the SWAC during the week, totaled 87,492 in attendance. The basketball tournament numbers increased 23 percent from the previous year reaching 45,390. The attendance from the tournament games totaled 33,836, receiving an increase of more than 12,000 from last year.
In regards to the economic impact on the Houston metropolitan area, the football championship game was estimated at $44 million and the basketball tournament at more than $3.5 million.
The football championship game attendance jumped into the record books ranking third all time at 38,985. The attendance ranked 29 out of 44 NCAA Division I FBS and FCS combined conference championships and bowl games. For the FCS games attended across the nation in 2013, it ranked sixth overall, joining five other SWAC match ups listed in the top 12.

Also, SWAC Football Championship outdrew the Advocare 100 Bowl (Shreveport Indy Bowl), the Mountain West championship game, the Conference USA championship game, MAC Championship, and other smaller bowl games featuring FBS teams. If you follow the link, the PDFs are there.... but ... here are the other PDFs with the data below

Now I fully understand, that these facts aren't going to deter you from joining the BMW Club Of America. They're just there so hopefully you actually do your research next time before you come.

As I said earlier, these games aren't base upon whether not they are going to be played, because you're sitting at home or somewhere feeling inferior because today there wasn't a capacity crowd.

If she graduated in 82 she's likely over 50.

What 2 teams played in the Swac championship game in Houston? those same 2 teams wont be there every year. Just saying.

I got to give it to you BMW ninja's, you're going to find a dark cloud on a sunny day, no matter how bright it is.

 & :( at the same time.

So what if they aren't? You have absolutely no clue as to what the attendance will be.

Did you even look at the pdfs?

Did you see where one of the Classic that you didn't think was worthy of even being played anymore, was ahead of one of the two that you thought worthy of being the only two to be played?

BTW, I'm still waiting for that proof on your claim, that you know seven schools that recruit solely on what there old players did in the past.

I actually weep for guys like you that feel so inferior, and allow outsiders to dictate your worth.

I read the PDF and I applaud the numbers that we have in terms of attendance which is great for a FCS programs, but I ask do you think solely that these attendance numbers is helping our conference? I look at the overall leadership and the conversation I have with several athletic leaders in this conference. And alot needs to be done to put us in a better situation. We can even look at on the field rankings we need to get better thats it. We arent the best in the FCS thats where I want this conference to be at one day not just in HBCU land.

NO SMACK at all btw.

To the point, yes it does help. Can you imagine what it would be like if the numbers weren't there?

They would be-calling for the total dismantling of the conference, with a few of us as ring leaders by reading post in these forums.

We all agree that more needs to be done, but at the end of the day, 95% of those doing the BMW club aren't doing anything but buying a ticket, and they're probably looking for a hook-up with that.

So until they actually get engage into something other than a message board, they're like the guy that didn't vote, but wants to complain, they have no voice.

As i said in my previous post a few pages ago. the only classic that should be kept is Florida classic and Magic city classic. Do you think the swac championship will have 38k-40K if A&M played Pine Bluff? no smack towards those schools but you get the point. i saw the pdf and the numbers are good. thats only the small picture bro. i can tell now that you ok with being average. look at the bigger picture bro. Just saying

i pay my alumni dues and i been a season ticket holder for 3 years and i don't even live in jackson anymore. just saying. thats a start. HEHEHEHE

And I commend you for that, but those are things that you should do IMHO, after all the University has done for you.

You nor I know what the attendance will be, so to say one way or the other would be pure speculation at best and propaganda at worst.

Now I'll bite, why would you exclude the Bayou Classic since the numbers were better than the Florida Classic?

its being talked about replacing grambling. they can't carry the load. if they are replaced. Will the classic be the same? Just saying bro. that classic is struggling

So because white folks ( who don't control shit ) talk about replacing Grambling,(even though the numbers are better than the FC and several bowl games ) you don't think the game should be played?

Here we go again not doing our research, you said that it wasn't, but you're acting like it is rocket science.

Bayou Classic attendance numbers continue to increase since Katrina

New Orleans, LA -- The rivalry between the Southern Jaguars and Grambling Tigers goes back to 1974 when the Bayou Classic Started.

Those Southern Jaguars have dibs on bragging rights for the next year.

More than 32,000 fans packed the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the 39th Annual Bayou Classic.

Bayou Classic organizers say seven years post-Hurricane Katrina, they are still working hard to bring attendance numbers back up.

National exposure helps to market the annual event.

Organizers say Southern and Grambling are the only Historically Black Colleges and Universities to play on national television.

Increased attendance at 39th Bayou Classic moves it up the list

A winning performance by Southern University wasn’t the only big moment at the 39th annual Bayou Classic in New Orleans. The event was the only HBCU Football Classic to see an increase in attendance from last year, making it the second largest Classic on the list.

The official attendance placed 45,980 at the game, and roughly half that at the Battle of the Bands and Greek Show.

“It is exciting to see the increase in attendance in all of our events this year,” said Dottie Belletto, President and CEO of New Orleans Convention Company, Inc. (NOCCI), the management firm of the Bayou Classic. “Our strategy for Bayou Classic is working with last year our focus on making Bayou Classic a family event that provides something for alumni, visitors and the community of New Orleans and this year focused on continued growth in attendance for all events that make up Bayou Classic weekend.”

The increase in attendance was also good news for the city of New Orleans. The Convention & Visitors Bureau shows that hotel occupancy was at roughly 93 percent. They project that the event brought 200,000 fans into the Crescent City.

This year’s Bayou Classic win for Southern University was its first since 2007. The team was lead by interim head coach Dawson Odums

There is ultimately a winner on the field. This time around, it was Southern. That came as no surprise.

Also no surprise was the impact the 40th Bayou Classic had on the New Orleans area and region.

Estimates have visitors spending nearly 50 million dollars in the city over the weekend with hotels estimated at 80 to 90 percent occupancy with nearly 200,000 visitors in town, based on tourism official estimates.

Southern controlled play from start to finish in a convincing 40-17 victory over Grambling. The Jaguars bolted out to a 27-3 halftime lead and Grambling simply could not overcome it despite a spirited second half effort.

Leonard Tillery led the Jags' attack with 19 carries for 104 yards to help Southern clinch its first winning season since 2009. Wide receiver Lee Doss of St. Augustine was the game's Most Valuable Player with six receptions for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Doss went over the magical 1,000 yard receiving mark and now has 1,047 yards on the season.

I've said this before....the SWAC's problems are easy to solve. But you have folks like Bluedog with that poisonous mentality...:smh:

Bluedog, some traditions can be kept but they would have to be manipulated and adjusted for today's time. If the Bayou Classic could move to another state for one year, why can it not move to an earlier date?

MONEY cannot buy Happiness. The SWAC must be willing to compete and tell OOC teams they are going to kick their ass.

For example, SU should call up McNeese, tell them the Jaguar Nation is coming to kick their ass, and then kick ass on the field.

I know in Mississippi, MS State is renewing its old rivalry with USM. I want the SWAC to renew those old school OOC HBCU games. SU vs. FAMU should be played every year. JSU vs. TN State is played yearly. My Alcorn Braves should play Howard every year. Just do right by people. They play at your place, you go play at their place. It creates fairness, competition, and fellowship among ALL HBCUs.

You do know why the Bayou Classic moved to Houston, right?

Dude, you know dang well folks would be lying through their teeth if they said this.

Hurricane Katrina of course. But some folks on here act like It would be a failure to move it to Labor Day. PV and TSU don't seem to have a problem.

Dude, if this game is moved, NBC would instantly pull out as would many vendors and sponsors. This would in turn severely wreck already struggling budgets for both schools. Both schools have become very dependent on the BC to help keep their budget above water.
