Charlie Strong to Texas

Charlie don't need a DC per say. It will be his scheme. Now who his OC will be interesting

He needs to bring his OC fromLouisville with him. The second best QB in Texas is already committed to UT.

Lol.

The major city in Texas are Liberal/moderate. Rurual/suburbs are conservative. That's how Rick Perry has stayed in office. Texas will be a blue state in 10-15 years.

I hear you and Law Dawg loud and clear but this is about keeping pace with a&m more than being progressive. let's not confuse liberal Austin with ut.

p.s. I hope I am wrong and you guys are correct. It is past time for things to change. But wasn't ut trying to get rid of giving scholarships to students who graduated in the top 10% of their class because too many caucasians were being excluded who allegedly attended schools with more stringent academics? The law was top 10 percent regardless of the school you graduated from.

My comments suggest that I believe die-hard, dye-in-the-wool bigots are the decision makers, and that's why things have remained essentially the same for so long. It has taken up to this day the year 2014 to witness what we're seeing, do you think the bigots that are powerless have kept things in check this long or the ones with power and influence? Either way I welcome the change for the state of Texas, and credit is the last thing I'm giving anyone that wills real power within our state. As I previously wrote and intimated, the state of Texas has grown up a little, socially, by the display of these hirings.

Heard Chad Morris the OC from Clemson is a candidate for the Texas OC Job if he doesnt get hired by Louisville as the HC..If they get him i give Texas 2-3 years before their back in the championship..
I think he'll come with the money they'll offer, Watkins and Boyd leaving, plus he's from Texas.

He leaves and you will see Dabo sweating over there. lol

Louisville better be trying to go hard after James Franklin.

Is this a token hire?

I don't think so. With Sumlin already at A&M, what would be the point?

I think Texas is just desperate to not let A&M get ahead of them. They have always considered A&M the little brother and that move to the SEC showed them that maybe little brother is a big boy now. Texas wants to win and remain the dominant school in the state.

The problem with the hire is that some people are saying that Strong was their seventh or eighth choice. Strong will need to win and win in a hurry because I don't think they'll have too much patience with a guy that far down on the list. If those rumors are true ....

Coaching is a tough profession. I remember hearing about him. He won a Texas state title at Bay City and two at Lake Travis. I know his family would love to back home to Texas. He would be a good hire for Louisville. O'Brien with the Texans needs to hire Shawn Watson, Louisville OC as their QB coach and draft Teddy Bridgewater.

Strong was not choice #1...if so, no other name is floated...Franklin is the better fit...Strong can't come out combative..he better shake every oil man's hands, etc....UT's biggest booster in Red McCombs preferred Gruden

But the AD wants power so someone like Strong will be so happy to coach at UT he'll sacrifice power for happiness....Saban, etc. has more power than an AD

Well heck they could've taken Muschamp, Florida would be happy to trade coaches with them.

...like I was just going to post a random thread about "guiltying kids in attending HBCUS". There is always a method to my madness . Now you have TWO BLACK HEAD COACHES at the top two football universities in Texas. Remember, this is 2014. This means that most of these 18-year kids were born in 1996. McNair was long gone into the NFL. 1999 is when things started to spiral downward into the SWAC current product we have today. Now you have two coaches in the state of Texas living in luxury with impressive resumes to boot.

If you are going to be a slave to the NCAA, at least be a slave in luxury. Compensation for your work in the cotton fields is better. We might as well accept this and move on.

2017 my fellow SWAC Supporters. 2017...it may be all over with, for us.
OMG stop being a drama queen.

Good Hire, an I applaud Texas.
Now first things first. In order for Strong to bring Texas back to dominance, He has to find a really good OC/assistance's/R.Corrd and regain Control of the State of Texas (Recruiting) from Sumlin (A&M) and Briles (Baylor). If he does that plus establishes a pipeline to Florida, Texas could be in a league of their own starting in 2015

why does he need a Florida pipeline? There's enough in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma to win

I think Texas has to realize now Mack Brown's success is what caused others to invest as it'll never be the same now....A&M was the dominant teams in the 90s which caused Texas to change and they found it with Brown

A&M suffered, invested heavily over the past few years in Sherman and Sumlin and is near the level Texas was in the early 2000s except they are in a harder league

Baylor has now caught fire, has a brand new stadium and committed to their coach

Then you got TCU, UTEP, UH, Rice...all competitive programs

Doesn't hurt to add some National cats to the roster. He don't need them like he did at Louisville. But can you imagine adding some of Florida's best players to a group of Texas players and the others you named. I think he will do that strategically. Meaning when you can steal a player from one of them states on a down year maybe at a position in Texas. Especially QB.

Texas has had a pipeline of QB success over the past decade or so. Mack Brown just didn't get em.

Lets count that up for you:
- Six NFL QB’s, including five current starters!
- Soon-to-be three Heisman winners
- Two #1 overall draft picks (with Winston likely #3 in 2015)
- Four QB’s drafted in the first round (soon to be more with Winston and maybe Manziel)
- Two Heisman runner-ups
- Three current starters at top-10 ranked teams

That, folks, is what we call the steady decline of a program.

I understand, but not every year produces a stud QB. We know Mack missed out. He also missed on Winston. Charlie Strong probably wouldn't have. Not saying Texas has not produced Qbs. But sometimes another state like Florida may have one (Bridegwater for example) that is too good to pass up even for a home state kid. That's all I am saying. Miami Hurricanes did it for years. Testeverde, Walsh, Kelly, Kosar etc were not from Florida. Even Bowden got Weinke after baseball but from Minnesota. Texas is too big of a name to not bring in some kids from these other states. He can still load up on Texas players. But getting a few other kids will not hurt the cause. Even Ricky Williams was from San Diego.

He really doesn't even have to leave the state. He just needs to lock up the talent that's leaving the state and going to OU, OSU, Mizzou, etc.

He could be in the running next year if he gets a QB. That's really all UT needed. That and alot of toughening up, cause they have the talent at just about every other position to compete right now.

I probably should be ashamed of this, but I did not know Charlie Strong was born in Arkansas and that he went to UCA. WOW!

You hit the nail on the head with that one. Even NFL scouts were saying UT players were especially coddled.

Hell I didn't realize he went to UCA. I think I remember hearing he had ties to the state of Arkansas. Man, he is going to be a beast in recruiting for UT.
