Or he might just believe that Louisville was not big time enough and that Strong had not proven himself as a head coach at one of the 4 BCS conferences I would have those reservations also...We need to stop trying to read racism into every freaking thing and I stand by my if I had 100 mil in donations somebody better be at my door asking my damn opinion first before going ahead on a hire...IJS!

Who the hell in his or her right mind can look at Strong's complete body of work and conclude that he should have be hired as a "position coach". Did McCombs not see how Louisville decimated Florida last year in the Sugar Bowl?

A guy who has beaten Florida and Miami back to back in bowl games and has been able to recruit Florida kids to Louisville Kentucky a basketball school to play football. Exactly. Strong's resume was no worse than Mack Brown's when they hired him to coach UT.

Look at Mack's resume before coming to Texas. Now he was the right hire at the time. But it ain't like it was a great resume. You have to commend him for building UNC into respectability. But he wasn't having Charlie Strong success right before his hire to Austin. And he was there at UNC for a minute.

But he wasn't having Charlie Strong success right before his hire to Austin. And he was there at UNC for a minute.

And the thing about Mack was he would always lose the big game while he was at UNC. The conference was weak, and he'd usually beat everyone but FSU. i was in school out that way at the time, and every year was supposed to be "THE YEAR" for the Tar Heels. The biggest game was FSU, and it would be a big deal, at night with the crowd going crazy for the cameras, and usually be over by halftime. Bobby Bowden and them boys would come to Chapel Hill and wreck shop everytime.

I'll always say the best thing Mack did for UT was to make it so the best athletes started staying at home to play there. That was even bigger than the Nat'l Championship in my opinion, because it wasn't ever like that before. Even so, Mack and Co. really slipped these last years and it's showed.

You shole is right Shaw. Hell cats like that at Florida is one of the top reasons Urban left truth be told. All them black QBs he got at Ohio State wouldn't fly at Florida and they forced him to recruit Brantley who was like trying to fit a square in a round hole in Urban's offense. LOL.

I am not outraged. I know McCombs feels like that. Most old white men in this country do. But hell if you in corporate America there is some white boy or woman who feels that way. Have we sold our souls there too? Folks just calling him on it. UT other boosters are SMART enough to keep their mouths closed. I am sure some didn't like the Strong choice. But the ones with the most clout had to have bought into Patterson choice. Same folks who got him hired. It is what it is. It's the name of the game in ALL OF AMERICA. Not just sports. You just got to learn how to play it. You can't escape it. Not like most of us going to work for black folks for all our lives. Most will not. Nope, I saw how McCombs acted first hand in Minnesota as the owner of the Vikings. He is an idiot. And what he said was racist. He said that man MAY be good enough to be a position coach or coordinator at UT. Doesn't his dumb arse realize Strong coached at Florida as a coordinator? Last time I checked Florida is one of the largest schools in the Nation with one of the best SPORTS programs overall. But he is saying Strong can't coach at fugging UT? Man them mofos had Mackovic as a head coach. Mack Brown came from NO NAME in FOOTBALL North Carolina to Texas. Strong did better at Louisville than Mack did at NC. Not that Mack did a bad job at UNC because he did get them to play much better than they had before he got there. McCombs is showing he knows nothing about football. If Mack Brown was ready to take over Texas. Surely Charlie Strong is coach wise. Now Charlie ain't good ole boy Mack who can kiss the babies and smooze the boosters. He will have to work on some of that. Maybe send his wife. But dude comes with a great resume. Better than some of the mofos they had on their list. Better than Mora Jr. Better than Shaw even. Folks can say he just kept up what Harbaugh started. Saban was the only big name I saw on their supposed list that had a better resume than Strong. Maybe Gruden if there was any interest. But even he won with Dungy players at Tampa and still got fired later. McCombs need to STFU and just keep writing them checks so Strong can go recruit. LOL.

I will say this again. If Texas wants to change coaches with Florida, I'll gladly take it. lol

Yeah, but to say that Strong should be a freakin' position coach is going overboard. I don't care how bad his feelings are hurt. Strong has proven he can coach and has earned the HC job at Texas.

I am willing to bet that if one had the whole recording of the radio show in which these comments were made it just might not have been said as simple as it was printed!

I think this is more of a fight between Steve Patterson and the boosters. McCombs wanted input, and Patterson did not listen. McCombs probably has more input than the usual big money booster (article). If Strong does not win, he will be out the door with Strong.

Also, the guy who grandstanded to the public and the Blazers coaches by slapping Darius Miles with a $150,000 fine while simultaneously negotiating a back-room deal to refund Miles every penny -- "with interest."

Steve Patterson, watch your back

AUSTIN, Texas - Didn't take long for new University of Texas athletic director Steve Patterson to make some new friends.

Shortly after introducing Charlie Strong as the new football coach at Texas, UT fat cat booster Red McCombs popped on the radio. He has his feewings huuurt.

This is what happens when you have just that much money - you do not care because there is zero consequence.

McCombs said, however, he would support Strong. Good to have friends like that.

It appears as if despite drawing up The CYA Committee of 8 to find Mack Brown's replacement, Steve Patterson was going alone on this hire. If this does not work out, he's sooooo fired. Red will make sure of it.

After the press conference before a small handful of us nerd media types, Patterson said he did not know where it started that other candidates turned down the job. Can't imagine.

I have said that part of the job will be how Strong reacts to the media. It is more than just coaching football. Mack Brown did a very good job of this. He not only reacted to the media very well but sold the program. With a network and more most than any athletic program, Strong will have to sell the program in addition to win football games.

McCombs has had exposure with sports outside of Austin. He not only owned the Vikings but the Nuggets and Spurs. He also hired John Lucas. It was a risky hire because Lucas did not have coaching record. (Then again any hire is risky.) He should have seen that Strong won at what is known as a basketball school. Remember Louisville won the national title last season. It is not easy to win when the sport a person coaches is (for example) football and the big sport is another, like basketball. Mack Brown came from what is considered a basketball school from UNC. (Of course there is women's soccer.) Brown won in Austin.

I agree. My sentiments exactly and you pointed out even some more I had forgotten about in one of your posts. Not to mention it is not unusual for kids to change their minds about coming when their is a head coach change.

All you have to do is look at Texas existing football roster. Pay close attention to the recievers and running back. Quarterbacks also. Politics have influenced his roster.
