Southern at Northwestern State

Also, I do believe SU set the attendance record for Nicholls State too. I remember marching in their stadium my freshman year in college. That little stadium was so packed, I could have sworn people was sitting on top each other. Also, Northwestern State would place chairs on the field behind each end zone for the bands when they played SU.

I believe Southern holds the attendance records at NWST and ULL as well.

...and? That STILL sounds like a better home-home deal than playing a home-home with most other teams across the nation. It benefits your local fans, your team and it keeps down the travel costs for your dept. Again, if you don't play them, who will you play that will be more convenient to your own school and fan base? But don't worry.. when these schools get banned from playing FBS teams, all of this we are talking about won't matter. It's gonna either be McNeese or Benedict. You choose! :D

TP, you state that as if jsu can't play Louisiana schools. You guys will have the same choices as S.U. One of your choices will be to play Southland schools or the Delta States and New Havens of the world. Just don't get on a bus and travel to New Haven again. Try to make them come to Jackson anytime you all play them.

We have NO connection to the LA schools. You do.

If we don't win, then we now have a target to strive toward. If you're playing against a historically solid program (McNeese is a good example), winning half of the time is nothing to sneeze at. From there, your recruiting pitch is that we're competitive with them, plus we have a larger fanbase and more TV exposure.

Not a bad argument, but I'm not convinced wins against SELA would be the determining factor in many recruits decisions. I think recruits are attracted by facilities and other amenities just like they are at larger schools. Things that cost money. That's why I don't think you can get away from focusing on the budget. Focusing on building those dollars that allow you to provide better weight rooms, etc. Playing McNeese doesn't help do that. Well it helps McNeese do that, but it doesn't help Southern.

When building a program, the dollars always matter. Always.

They are probably just as close to Northwestern State as SU is and they are not that far from Southeastern. It's just a few hours down I-55.

You all are a FCS program and can MAKE a connection. I noticed a lot of your fellow posters are running around this forum for example with their lips wrapped around McNeese's behind. All they need to do is press your AD to schedule a game with McNeese since they believe they are the measuring stick. Also, you all do have a little relationship with NWST, so it wouldn't take much to re-establish it.

They became McNeese's No. 1 cheerleaders. I'm sure McNeese was to glad to pickup the extra fan support.

Those are only excuses. Jsu has always been scared of PWC competition on their level during the regular season. They will play New Haven or Delta State before playing a McNeese or Sam Houston.

I have noticed that.

We already have better facilities than those schools. Yes dollars always matter, but it's also shortsighted to focus solely on that. Additionally, we can't just focus solely on ticket sales. Fundraising is really the lifeblood of a thriving athletic department, and nothing stimulates that more than winning.

Yeah, a lot of them are always whining to play in the FCS playoffs. However, their fan base is too coward to push their AD to play FCS programs consistently during the regular season (not that their administrators would listen to them anyway).

Is she still getting paid?

Wow SU breaks attendance records at other schools..

I wonder how many other schools can say the same Lol...

Folks know we carry this conference lmao

Wins against those schools are not guaranteed. That's the whole problem with your plan. You could play those schools and not get the benefits you want. What's worse, playing them could make them stronger and give them the very advantage you wish for.

I'd still take more money and build the program from the inside rather than hoping for marginal benefits while helping your competitors. The possible rewards for Southern don't justify the risks in my opinion.

I agree with you...

man If I'm coming into SU program from high school..I'm not getting to geek'd playing your NWST, I'd be sold on the likes of playing a UGA or a UH etc top program than playing your NWST, SLU

juss saying and speakin on how these kids and not us see it

Considerable fan interest?

SU fan interest? TP, those schools have no fans. If Southern went there or if they came to Baton Rouge, Southern fans would be paying their bills. Why would anyone do that? Why do you think that McNeese guy was whining so much about a $60,000 payout? That money meant a lot to them.

It doesn't make financial sense to play them home or away, TP. The stands would be packed with Southern fans in both locations.

Forcing Southern to pay the buyout fee had nothing to do with any need for a paltry $60k. From an economic standpoint, we could have schedule a D-II for a home game, paid them a guarantee (AND gotten a better opponent on the field) and made exponendially more money than the $60 k.

The point is, we signed a home and home and, in good faith, we went to Southern, first, paid the higher prices you charged for that game and - aside from your homecoming game - brought the largest crowd to visit Mumford that year. The game did nothing for us other than drag down our strength of schedule. We took the worst McNeese team in 30 years into Mumford, whipped you like you stole something, didn't even get to see the band perform because of the rain, and then had you reneg on the contract. Stuff like that's culmulative. You guys wussed out of the EARLIER discussions about a contract, signed one, announced it, then corrected yourselves and said that it wasn't signed, but wouldn't return the blank contract to us ;) What's up with that? Anyway, water under the bridge...

The buyout clause wasn't about financial need. We built a $10 million dollar fieldhouse and turfed the field in that same time frame, so your $60k "meant a lot to McNeese" rant is so you can try to salvage what little pride you've got left. You know if Southern wouldn't have paid the buyout, EVERYBODY would KNOW Southern punked out. As it is now, they only suspect that's so ;)

The money wasn't about "need." It was about honor and doing things the right way. Which is PRECISELY why you don't understand the concept...

It's an honor thing. A Jaguar wouldn't understand...

Your SWAC cheerleaders will be in here in a minute.

Another lie.

I never thought I would come across a person that lied more than JayRob. Dude, you win. Damn. :shame:

First of all, from an economic standpoint, you could not have brought in a DII school and made more money or brought more excitement to your little funky town than playing Southern would have brought. Could you have made more than 60K? Sure. But, the fact remains that you were looking for a much bigger payday from Southern and didn't get it. That's why you're still acting pissy about it all of these years later.

Secondly, the contract was for a return game or the buyout. You got your buyout, the contract was fulfilled and Southern's pride and honor are intact. Believe that.

The bottom line is that you all thought you were going to get paid by Southern's fans filling your rinky dink stadium and it didn't happen. That wasn't about pride. That wasn't about honor. That was about greed as it typically is with people like you. And you've yet to stop whining about it. :smh:

Cal poly send help :smh: . McNeese didn't honor them. Oh we built a 17 million dollar field house. And again SU never paid McNeese Espn paid them because we played in the Swac/ meac challenge.

Uh dude, we didn't raise ticket prices for McNeese State. LOL. Sorry to disappoint you. Those ticket prices got raised for the entire season and everybody paid the same. We don't raise ticket prices just for certain home games. Not even homecoming. So that's another lie told right there.

Why the hurt feeling over SU not coming to Lake Charles? If there was no Katrina, SU would have played at McNeese that year. It didn't happen and other MONEY opportunities happened. You got your payout. SU ain't the first to cancel on you cats and will not be the last. We have had cancellations as well. It is what it is. But you mofos act like you got to have SU come down to Lake Charles. You already said SU football ain't isht. So why would you even want a sorry football team to come play McNeese? It ain't no honor thing. You got your money. So the honor isht goes out the window. Wasn't like SU set attendance records in Mumford with McNeese fans showing up and such. You would think we beat yall down on the field the way yall are whining about SU needing to return the favor.

Let me let you in on something. If SU didn't mean that much to you all, you wouldn't even care to be commenting about why SU ain't calling to play McNeese. If all we do is bring down your strength of schedule then your AD shouldn't even utter SU's name out of his mouth. What's wrong with you Lake Charles folks. Do you guys not feel part of La or something? I know yall damn near to Texas, but the way yall whine about folks not wanting to play yall in La is over the top. Just continue to say SU is scared. I don't what for. If we are sad, what is it to be scared of? We have played FBS level teams and ain't scared to take that arse whooping. We don't seem to have any issues with your Southland brother in NW LA State. So why would SU be so scared of McNeese State? Ain't like yall are the best team in the Southland. So I guess if SU plays Sam Houston State, that would piss yall off too. Just tell the truth. It ain't about no damn honor or nothing. You keep mentioning not seeing the band. I guess you just wanted us to come down to Lake Charles to ENTERTAIN you folks. More reason to say no. For a team who has gone pretty far in the FCS playoffs, you cats sure have some issues of wanting to belong. I see why the ULL and LSU folks treat you the way they do.

Man RC Slocum send help. Maybe your alum can help yall get a game with Texas A&M for a paycheck. Sheesh.
