I don't see it. Even with 25K it would be a shabby dump with the kind of money they can access. They would come out ahead building something like Bama State has.

Dump you say?

You have a bad habit at attempting demagogue when you don't agree with someone. Don't address me any differently that you would address your mother or father. If you call your mother or father's opinions foolish then address me differently. I wont answer your question because of the way you addressed me. And by all means learn how to spell.

From the article in the web link below, this is the one statement that caught my attention:

Apart from wanting a stadium on campus, JSU is also feeling pressure to get out of the university's current football home, Veterans Memorial Stadium. That stadium, first opened in 1950, sits in the middle of the strip of land along Woodrow Wilson Avenue that several groups hope to transform into a health-care corridor.

The corridor would include a collection of medical and other health-related services, including retailers and manufacturers stretching from Interstate 55 to Interstate 220. The plans include expanding the University of Mississippi Medical Center onto the land where Veterans Memorial Stadium sits today.

Seems like someone already have plans ready to be built for a particular site. Sounds like gentrification is still alive and well.

So, does this means jsu has to sell Confederate Memorial Stadium before they can break ground on that dome stadium?

JSU plans to put the money it receives from selling Veterans Memorial Stadium and the surrounding land toward funding the new stadium.

They have known for a while the time is ticking on that property. They will get a stadium but it wont be what they are proposing.

Also, it seems like they have to sell and VACATE their current stadium long before they can break ground on their dome stadium:

A lot of what they are proposing is a pipe dream. 200 events per year in Jackson state's dome, yea right!

I'm sure there are outside forces helping to create this pipe dream.

I will agree with that. B'ham has been trying to put together a package much longer to get a facility a little better than what they are proposing and it hasn't happened yet. They better try to get something like Bama State and be thankful for that. And it will also be interesting to see how the state is going to respond to their double dipping (requesting money from the state in addition to getting money from Memorial Stadium)

You guys don't seem to know the difference between the smack board and the sports forum. As far as I know there are no curfews in the forum. You people try to make things personal when someone disagree with your perspective. If you want to smack meet me in the correct forum.

 All of this is funny. But there are a few things to consider here but if I say them, it will certainly be smack.

oh.. LOL @ jrock

We don't really have a perspective. We just have trust in our President and we know that out athletic department is tight-lipped (please don't run with that) ... so if they are letting this be known to the public, they probably have their ducks or some chickens or something in a row.

Also, just like you all have opinions, so do JSU fans. Not all of us even want a domed stadium or a 50K seat stadium. But for those of you saying that MS won't support this, you seem to forget that MS might be the force behind this. JSU does not need a 50K seat dome. The state of MS and the city of Jackson need it more than us. The stadium will connect the convention center with downtown hotels and the Farish Street District. All of that means money for MS and the city of Jackson.

..as for those who are mentioning BHAM. The city of Jackson is not running this. JSU is. BIG difference.

I have not been to Jackson in some decades. Is JSU in close proximity to the downtown convention area?

Yes, three blocks away.
Three streets (vertically) separate our campus from the convention center
The stadium's (main) proposed site sits between two of those streets (University Blvd and Gallatin St) <----- big chunk of land
Univ Blvd borders the East end of our campus which is our sporting complex.

if the arrangments for the domed stadium is like the arrangement that ul lafayette has with the city of lafayette, then the domed stadium would have been the best busness deal ever in the history of jackson state. ul's cajundome has brought the city of lafayette concerts, trade shows, monster truck shows, and the wwe is in lafayette almost every 4-5 months. if there was no cajundome none of these events would not even think about coming to lafayette. trust me that arena is not making money off of ul basketball there is nobody at those games. if jackson state can sell the dame as a place to bring in those type of big events to the city, then this domed stadium will become a reality very quickly.

Jrock, do you know who our sponsors are? If you don't, then you're just as misguided as you were before this thread began and don't know it. Then again, it IS your right to be mistaken and misguided.

The stadium already has a buyer who is ready to take over the land...that information wont be released until the deal is done but every one familiar with Memorial knows who is ready to tear it down.....

Take y'all asses to church

All of this over a Jackson Free Press article.
No photos and no official announcement from the University. Lol

Meyers ain't said a word and folks already in their feelings. Geesh

.... a 50k seat DOME for 200 million? That would have to be the most bootleg dome ever. How do you get a 50k seat dome for 200 million? Get a 100 million dollar football stadium... and 100 million dollar basketball arena.

And where did you get your info from? The average 25000 seat dome would cost approximately 80 million, so why is it so farfetched to think that a 50K seat dome would be more than 200 million? And please don't use the NFL domes as a comparison. This isn't the NFL, this is college football.

Well the Birmingham Dome's cost was 440 million for a 57k seat dome... and that was in 2007... estimated cost now would be between 600 and 700 million.

So are you suggesting we build a bootleg high school stadium like Crews?
sounds to me like everyone is in their feelings because they don't want us to build the nicest stadium in the conference.
Regardless of how bootleg you think it will be, it will SHIT on Crews for damn sure
Dome or No Dome. That's a fact.
But carry on

Like I said, Meyers ain't said a word and folks all "rolled" up lol
Over an article that's not 100% correct smh
