Can a realtionship survive cheating and become stronger?

We think all of mankind acts and behaves like us. We tend to assume that everyone has the same choices and amenities that we do. We tend to believe that American society behavioral norms are the world's behavioral norms when it could be further from the truth. I find a lot of Americans to be closedminded, particularly black people. We don't like to challenge our own beliefs.

Hmmm.

I agree with you. Most are closedminded and cannot envision a world beyond their personal experience. I've found that it's really true among people who attended HBCUs. Very narrow and simplistic view of the world.

I think this is true of most Americans...look at the pres. contenders...if that ain't life under a bowl...

Neither are our bodies controlled by our minds. There are natural reactions in the body that take place without us ever thinking about it. Women naturally react to certain chemicals men release when they sweat, etc.. The male body is programmed to mate with as many people as possible to ensure the survival of the human race. We both know this is no longer the case but the body is programmed to do so and there is science to back it up. Personally, I think there is a constant battle between the two. I also am a very strong believer in the Sigmund Freud theories of the subconscious mind. We learn to suppress things. Up until 100 years ago, most grown men married 12-14 year old girls, now that is considered pedophilia. What kept the trend going for so long, there had to be some natural attraction in the mind.

I believe the beauty of Christianity is the submission of the will of man to the will of God.

Very well said Pops, and I do see your point. I just disrespectfully disagree with what you posted about how we weren't created to be monogamous. I just believe if God intended for us to have multiple sex partners, the union of marriage wouldn't be formed, nor would it be a Holy Union, with vows taken before Him. I just believe that if we were meant to sleep around, He would not have told us to cleave unto a (one) man/a (one) wife and that the two would become one.

Like everything else worth having in life, it takes an undeterred mindset, deep conviction in achieving what you want. If you believe in your convictions and truly stand by what you vowed, you can have a happy, monogamous, non-cheating marriage. It just takes effort.

Agreed.

We actually are made to be monogamous. However, temptation, lust and opportunity make it difficult.

I think that's why we have so many problems in the world. People want to live independent of that aspect of life.

Blanket statement. A lot of people have been tormented living in societies held to strict scriptural principle. In America, we tried to govern according to the bible at one point and people were burned at the stake. None of us would survive trying to live to according to literal scripture.

Also, Christianity is only around 2000 years old, how do you explain the behavior of those whose lives preceded it?

Lioness, my point is that I don't believe what God intended for us to do and what he designed our body to do is one and the same. I think he intentionally gave us this internal conflict. I think if we were designed to naturally be monogamous, it would show up in primitive societies.

No order, no structure, no discipline, no Grace

I don't think (my opinion) God intentionally nor unintentionally creates internal conflict within us or our minds. I do believe (again, my opinion), that He gave us free will and reminds us of the consequences that follow bad choices/decisions and rewards us for our right/good/positive choices. I believe He leaves the ultimate decision (to do right/wrong, cheat/faithful, good/bad) up to us. We all are given a choice on everything we do in life.

Again, that's just me.

Well, there are two forces at work here. One good. One not so good. That's where the conflict comes from.

One made us in his image. The other using every trick in the book to destroy us.

Conflict indeed.

We had a debate about Adam eating the apple yesterday. People looked at me crazy when I said I was kind of glad that Adam ate the apple because it allowed man to have knowledge. Up until then, we were ignorant.

I can see how that argument can be made.

I can also see how people will look at you like you're crazy when make that argument.

God said man could eat of any tree in the Garden of Eden (except for the Tree of Knowledge) that included the Tree of Life, where we could have had immortality and not have all these problems today, my friend.

And you said it was a good thing Adam and Eve spoke to the Devil? Come on, son. LOL

Kendrick, let me ask you this:

If God didn't know somebody would eat of those trees, would they have a reason to exist?

Give me knowledge over immortal ignorance brother...

Yeah.

God was obviously testing Adam and Eve. As a result of him giving man free will, he wanted to see if they would be loyal to his commands or do their own thing.

I agree; there is conflict, but I disagree that God put it within us or that He gave it to us. I believe the internal conflict is created by ourselves when we don't listen to what is right or good for us but rather listen to those who tempt us or encourage us to do what is not right for us. God tells us what's right for us and allows us to make the decision to act; the devil tells us to give in to what is satisfying and will sometimes create a false image of how we'll look to others if we don't act out our desires. When we listen more to the devil or even folks who encourage this, we create the conflict.

How has that worked out for mankind some 2,000 years later?

So, you would trade living in paradise for fancy book learning and street smarts? Remember, Eve was naked. And didn't care. That's how all the women would have been. But noooooooooo someone had to screw it up.

Uhh. Kendrick. You don't want to see most women naked.

Don't forget that the dude was naked too. :smh:

So you think the Big Fella would not have created decent looking helpmeets for guys if we had obeyed him from jump?

Lioness, babies are born with knowledge of God. They have to learn about his grace just as we all did. Children are having sinful thoughts long before they can even understand the concept of God.

6,000 years. I am not talking about book learning and street smarts but the ability of comprehensive, deep conceptual thought.
