It is projected that by the year 2012-13, a large number of colleges and universities will be suffering or operating in the red. Dr. Mason warned us of all these budget cuts and they will effect not only SU but every school in the swac. I hope we all survive.
When Mason's plan was leaked, the masses couldn't see the forest for the trees. They saw the word "merge" and didn't give a crap about anything else.Glad he got JSU on the right track on budget shortfalls long before he left. Our state cuts are not the hatchet job Louisana's is, but he started planning for these days a long time ago. That is where that "out the box" merge plan came from. I still say Mason never had no intention of putting that merge plan into motion because in this state, a college merge that big that don't stand a chance, but when Gov. Haley Burbour asked for out the box thinking on budgets a year earlier, that is what he came up with.

When they saw "MERGE and HBCU" it was over. Nothing Mason said about it after the Clarion Ledger sued to publish that idea mattered to the masses. :lol:When Mason's plan was leaked, the masses couldn't see the forest for the trees. I love bands because it is the best student activity on a college campus. President of AAMU started a fund raising campaign to buy new uniforms for the bands. It was announced that we were about $35,000 short at the end of the fund raiser, however, the band uniforms were ordered and worned on homecoming this year. When he welcomed the homecoming crowd, he asked everyone who purchased a band uniform to stand and be recognized. It was a proud moment for me to be able to stand, but as I stood, I looked around to see who was standing and alums who I would have betted my last dollar on in support of this project did not stand. We can all do something, if it is only $1.00. I hope your fund raiser is successful.

Hey 96lioness, no hard feelings about what happened last Saturday....I still love dem Golden Lions as I do all my HBCU's.....I saw it as a situation between 17 to 21 year old YOUNG men who were still in battle mode after a hard faught game where things just got out of hand...but we know all our kids are better than that and we will all bounce back from it....
I blame Mr. Jackson. Why increase the size of the band in tough economic times by 100 members? What happened to the phrase "quality over quantity"?
Dr. Greggs had the most efficient marching band there was, there was no pork in a Dr. Greggs band.
The way our state govt. fights over money the only way you can get them to get off their duff and start "thinking" is to use terminology like "merging" and "consolidation". That invokes a Pavlovian response in them and actually makes them put forth an effort to think of other ways to save money. Ray Mabus did the same thing years ago. Half of the state legislature is too busy hanging out with lobbyists at Tico's when they are in session. We all saw what happend when the Gov. simply suggested looking into a merger...no motions were made in the house to do so...just a "suggestion", and you see what happend. Mofos had to actually WORK on other things and get it straight because they didn't want to go down that road, which is what the Gov. actually wanted in the first place.
Interesting! Glad that worked for yall. Here in Louisiana, politics is a whole different ball game.Yep.
They went from "Can't do shat..........We ain't got shat", to "here is our budget plan" in less than 2 weeks.
They straightened out a lot of shat quick when the word "merger" was spoken. One week people was marching, protesting the THOUGHT of merging Mississippi State with MUW/Delta State and JSU with Alcorn and Valley, to JSU getting Memorial for 3 years with all the profits and Valley getting money for their Gym and Football Stadium repairs the next week.
https://foundation.sus.edu/payment.htmlWhere is the link to make a donation? I would like to give something.
Some student fees also goes to the jukebox. Its sad that more money isn't pumped more into the band program at SU. I know at GSU: Sponsors, Student Fees etc are pumped into the World Famed's account.
Well lets make it simple, Alumni who got it. DONATE back to your schools just like everyone else does. Case closed
