That is political spin. There were not as many black people in the voting process because a lot of them have moved away, or they just did not vote. In Louisiana politics there are lies, damn lies, and statistic.

I'm not sure who thinks Mitch is the "white savior", but how about him being the best candidate in the eyes of the black and white voters of New Orleans. You keep saying you don't live in New Orleans and you're not a democrat. If this is the case, why even share your comments. Look I don't care if the man is black, white, yellow, green or red. He has four years to get New Orleans back on track by dealing with the crime, educational and disaster recovery issues. To answer your question to my comment about the six months, you will see recovery start to move a rapid pace. The federal dollars have been in the city since 06 waiting to be spent. Nagin has so much red tape tying the money up FEMA told them to start spending are they we glady take the money back. Mitch has already announced of series of meetings to take place to get the money flowing in order to get homes and communities rebuilt and people back in them. Since you're an outsider, you have no clue as to how things HAVE been run in New Orleans. I will leave it at that since you're not from New Orleans or a Democrat. All you need to understand is that aint no way in hell some communities in New Orleans should still be looking like Katrina just came through. The next time you're in New Orleans, venture off and leave the comfortale atmosphere downtown new orleans offers. You can take St. Claude all the way down the 9th ward and back and you'll see what I mean.

I made a comment because you asked me a specific question. You asked me what problem I had with Landrieu and I was trying to answer. I don’t like the Landrieu name I will stick to that until I go to my grave. Mary Landrieu was campaigning all in North Louisiana telling black folks that a black person will never be senator. That is unforgivable to me. If she feels that way then I bet he feels the same way too. I have not been to New Orleans since pre-Katrina, maybe I am out of touch. I can admit when I am wrong when some body proves it. However, I don’t understand what Ray Nagin has to do with this election when he was not running. Also I just find it strange Ed Murray would drop out so late in the race when he was one of the front runners. And most important, what efforts are being made and what Landrieu has said he is going to do to get all those black folks back in New Orleans.

All I can say is just sit back and lets see what happens. I don't know and never heard of Mary saying that. Ray Nagin has nothing to do with this IMO as he is the lame duck Mayor. As far as Senator Murray, I'm sure he has his reasons why he dropped out of the race. That's just how the game of politics is played. Senator Murray said himself that he can best help the city of New Orleans by staying in the State Legislator. As far as his priorities are concerned, I have attached a link to a story which outlines them.

Landrieu said he will remain in his current job as the state's lieutenant governor until the day he is sworn in as mayor on May 6. He also said making the city's streets safe is his top priority, while he tackles the city's myriad challenges, including improving the public school system, rebuilding hospitals and reducing blight.

:tup: Ray Nagin was the BEST example of a terrible mayor! The election had everything to do with his ass. The people were/are looking for a change and saw it best in Mitch Landrieu. Had I been a resident I would have voted for him. The other candidates, including Troy Henry, were all about the same blame game BS ass rhetoric. It's time to look forward and I wish Mitch well in taking care of his beloved New Orleans.
BTW, Ed Murray is the most politically savvy man in Louisiana. He is smart, well respected and knew it was the right thing to withdraw from the mayor's race.

Players most of the black people in New Orleans didn't care for him. He was the black candidate the whites wanted in office. Keep in mind when the citizens of New Orleans didn't change the two term limit law for then Mayor Marc Morial, the person who ran against him was Police Chief Pennington. The whites of New Orleans wanted everything connected to Morial out, so they threw their support behind Nagin. Fast forward to Hurricane Katrina right before that happened, the whites who supported Nagin backed off after he didn't become the puppet man they wanted. Here comes the elections right after katrina that would give him his second term and that's why you saw the pro-black cussing chocolate city Nagin. For the next four years the same white voters who put him office his first term, did everything possible to make him look bad on the way out.

Like I said I can admit when I am wrong. I thought Landrieu and Fields had a falling out about a senate seat, but it was the 1995 governor’s race when Fields was running against Mike Foster. The Democrat Mary Landrieu can in third and refused to endorse the Democrat Cleo Fields against Republican Mike Foster. She was up here in North Louisiana insinuating a black person has no chance being governor of Louisiana. She called it political suicide. That is when I left the Democratic party and became a register Independent. It seemed like yesterday but that was 15 years ago. Time really flies. Also, 2002 Mary Landrieu has stated she has voted with President George W. Bush more than 70 percent of the time. This is when she was running against her Republican challenger Suzanne Haik Terrell, for whom Bush campaigned. In that same election she said she supported the NAACP 92 percent of the time. She won with 52 percent of the vote over Terrell with her unconventional strategy but I saw then this was a person who will do anything and say anything to get elected. I can go on and on about her but I can’t see how her brother can be anything different. I my opinion(I should have a right to have one) by bringing Ray Nagin to this election Mitch Landrieu used a JEDI mind trick if you will to make black people think that all black politician are corrupt. By the responses on this thread it worked. So drive on New Orleans I wish you and your new mayor well.

I used to work for Mary and I like her but she did issue Cleo a raw deal.
However, I can tell you that I personally saw her stand up for Barack Obama in 2008 when being attacked by John Kennedy and again at a fundraiser in st. tammany parish.

They called a "TWO TIME LOOSER!" What i think has been going on in N.O. is that the city was been making a lot of money as far as Mardi Gras, B.C. (Bayou Classic) and etc. but the thing is that a lot of these venues are not contributing much to the city's growth "by a long shot," which leads me to believe that their needs to be more or better marketing strategies for the city and also keep in mind that the city has faced a lot of corruption over the years or I should say up until about 1999 that has stripped the city of valuable finances and also you need to look at the the fact N.O is still or about the "Murder Capitol of the World" and that will really hurt business infrastructure in terms of trying to expand business and also they need to try annex more land but you can't fault them too much because of the previous agendas which mostly includes placing large financial packages to corporations and they either pocketed large amounts of money with no real gov't prosperity in return and mostly gov't business failures all "across the board" especially in the banking system. The city of N.O. needs to first clean up the streets (drugs and etc.) and then find the best research analysts from all spectrums and then go from there (basically finding what's best for the city)!

This issue has nothing to do with jobs or the environment, it’s about “BIG†oil money and I think she got of little of it. She could have let Republican David Vitter take a stand like this. Since his name came up in some hooker’s address book, he’s doing everything but calling Obama the “N†word. She could have done like Charlie Melancon (I call him Uncle Charlie, he is not a favorite of mines neither), said she was against it and moved on. She is not up for re-election this year. But since she gave Southern that $800,000 and a few black people big time jobs, she can say “You see, I have helped YOU PEOPLE. So don‘t get to tripin’ when I bust your BOY‘s balls.â€
I have wondered what did Mary Landrieu did for the Black people of New Orleans and Black people in Louisiana in general. I am wondering about her brother too. I wondered what did she say about BP specificially after the spill. I asked a north Louisiana resident about her, and they did not complement the senator to say the least. As it has been stated, she is not running for re-election this year. The Black vote in New Orleans got her re-elected more than once. Looking at her actions, Black people in the state should have long memories.
