You go try to coach @ Valley and lets see whats your record.

That's the same thing some would have said about P.V. 3 years ago.

Where does the excuse line end?
Stop accepting excuses for failure.
How many members of this board think they would still have thier jobs after years and years of ineptness?

If the swac was to get some business acumen some people would be in trouble.

DA SLEEPER

you are correct. ask anybody in 2002 do you think the 2008 PV team will be 9-1 and finish second in the western division race. Nobody would have beleive that And PV was in worst shape than MVSU is
Totten can not coach. period . Didn't one year he had both preseason offensive and defensive player of the year and did not thing with that talent. You get the right coach in there and things can turn around for MVSU

I agree, Lil Jag. It's gotta be some sorta status thing, as was eluded earlier with the name of the stadium.

He's gotta go.....they need to dig up Denny Green or something.

Totten has made some very stupid decisions. First and foremost was getting rid of Shaw Gregory as OC, in favor of his brother. Valley had that winning season and looked poise to be competitive. Then Totten struck.

Totten's contract expires in Dec.,2009. Hopefully this is it for him. Also, the new prez has already stated that a winning athletic program is a must and not an option. Thanks for your unwanted concerns. Have a lousy day.

its about the school valley, totten has had some talented teams, that team with tyrone timmons, aries nelson, and that LB but bad coaching hender the team, if henry frazier can turn around praire view, it can be done at valley also.

and if valley bring him back, the swac need to discontinue valley football program.

That sums it up right there. Full support from the President's office is a must. In my previous statement above, I was not showing favor or against Totten but if the administration doesn't hold him accountable who will? Now that V Stater is saying that the new president is saying a winning athletic program is a must and not an option should be the writing on the wall to Totten spelling out that you got to win or you go to update your resume.

Presidents can talk about this and that, but at the end of the day money talks. He (the President) and the AD need a plan. How are they going to fund an athletic upgrade? The State of MS ain't giving them anymore money. Are they planning to implement a fund-raising initiaitive? As it stands now, Valley can't even afford to issue a full allotment of scholarships. Last I heard they were working with 42 scholly's a year.

Then there's recruiting. MS doesn't have the population that LA and AL have, so we have to leave the state.........that's talking major expenses.

Let's be honest, when you have a lack of scholarships, subpar facilities and little money to recruit with you are facing an uphill battle. Totten is doing more with less. I bet you wouldn't find one coach in the SWAC who could make Valley a contender. If they want to up the ante, be fair and do it while Totten is there. Don't try to get rid of him and say, "it's a new day".

Totten is a decent coach that does a decent coach with what he has. He has underachieved just like some of the other coaches in this league. Before you criticize Totten look at your own coach.

Valley needs to be D2 and that is not a put down on them but you need to be where you can be most effective. Valley could still play JSU and Alcorn if they wanted. Heck JSU could open up the season with them every year in Jackson for Labor Day. Of course, we would miss them in bball and baseball but they are not dynasties there either. Put them up against Fort Valley, Albany State, Miles and Tuskegee. With the relaxed recruiting rules, they could get a lot of talent in MS. If they are only giving out 42 schollies anyway, they are barely above the D2 max. This would put the SWAC back to a 9-team league (unless we send UAPB with em) but that would not be so bad.

Then it would boil down to Valley and Skegee every year duking it out for the Title!

Valley could actually BENEFIT from a move to D2. They would just need to figure out how to play JSU and Alcorn... no other SWAC schools want to play them anyway. But having a chance to play from Mississippi to Georgia would be great for them. Morehouse, Clark, Miles, etc.. is not a bad schedule for them.

They need to take AAMU PV and TxSU with them

I disagree, PV is right on Houstons doorstep, so a vast pool of local talent was right there to get. PV was just trifling and didn't care. Valley got real issues way beyond their coach.

BTW, in the last 10 years, Totten ain't the only dumb coach in the SWAC by far.
