Cador, Bethune Coach - Finalists for UNO Job

If SU loses Cador it will be just what they deserve. The most consistent winning program and the least supported.

According to the Jaguar Journal, Cador coached last season without a contract :retard: . Also from what I hear, Lefleur doesnt like Cador, and was trying to get rid of him . Cador is very outspoken on the bad things that have taken place in the athletic department and at the school. He is the only one that will speak up. Hopefully the school does what he has to do to keep him. He is the only coach we have, that others pursue. Every year someone is trying to hire him, which is a good thing.

Wow.......that will be bad news for us, especially since Rey just went to Alcorn. I have to believe that Cador doesn't think he will get the UNO job if Rey took the Alcorn job instead of waiting to see what happened with Roger. But then again, maybe the AD aint fond of any of Roger's proteges either. Oh well.

Southern better not lose Cador! That would be horrific for SU and very damaging for the swac as well. Do what you've got to do to keep him, fire Lafleur if you've got to!

While it would be a major loss for SU -- I beleive the job will be Puebla's or Rey. I would like to see what Cador can do at a white school.

Last I heard, UNO's baseball program was on shaky financial ground and the program might not be around in the next few years. Mind you the situation may have improved since I heard about it but if not why would anyone, other than an assistant currently on the UNO staff, chance leaving their head coaching job at whatever university to go there?

Some very rich guy died and left the majority of his money to UNO. UNO last coach was paid $188,000 while Cador was making $95,000 @ SU.

State Rep Cedric Richmond is the one pushing for Cador to get the job at UNO he was the one who initiated the job reopening.

Any truth in that or just wishful thinking?

Yes he is one of the finalist for the job he wants the job but members of the board are against him because he does not have a doctorate degree but I expect TC to take care of that by next weekend at the board retreat in New Orleans.

Rutledge said budget cuts to colleges and the formation of a Postsecondary Education Review Commission to study the future of higher education in Louisiana make it imperative that Southern find a permanent replacement soon.

“There are rough waters ahead,†he said.

Some points of contention up for discussion at the retreat could be the criteria for the job, which Southern released this week only after the first search committee meeting.

The presidential criteria include an “earned doctorate,†a “commitment to fundraising,†a “sustained record of productivity in teaching, research and service,†and a strong record of “financial management expertise.â€

Requiring a doctoral degree is often a divisive issue. Rutledge was quick to note that the criteria are in draft form only and subject to many changes before receiving full board approval.

Southern Board Chairman Tony Clayton, of Port Allen, already opposes requiring a doctorate for the job.

Nominees for the interim presidency who do not have earned doctorates include retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré and James Joseph, a former U.S. ambassador to South Africa.

Clayton was publicly in the Honoré camp. “We’re looking for leaders,†Clayton said, noting that software giant and multibillionaire Bill Gates dropped out of college.

for that Number the AD could love me and be married to me in I would still be Gone.... Its Crazy that SU program is better then UNOs program but its a huge difference in Pay and assuming Budget.
Whats sad about the SWAC is that We dont recognize when we have a programs that can be Special. No way as the AD or President that I dont understand that SU Baseball has the patential to be just as big as the football team if you plant the right seed... The same could have been said about Grambling's Womens Basketball teams in the 90s, a few extra dollars in we might be one of the best programs in the Nation right now, But look at us Now. Another example: SWAC football 91-95, no one really took advantage of McNair playing in the Conference.

All Cador wants is for them to build the Club House, which they already have the money for, and a pitching coach. Thats really not that much to ask for.

It is not at all. I don't think any schools have a pitching coach. I know the SWAC is lauded for it being a football conference, but over the years baseball programs have gotten better and better.

Certain baseball programs have always been good. Look up the players SU, Gram, Jackson, and tSU had drafted.
