Cador, Bethune Coach - Finalists for UNO Job

Southern better not lose Cador! That would be horrific for SU and very damaging for the swac as well. Do what you've got to do to keep him, fire Lafleur if you've got to!

Hell yea! Fire him and Tony Clayton!

Cador used this same move a few years back interviewing for the vacant Jackson State position. It simply a leverage move to try to get what he wants done for the program (i.e. locker rooms/coaches office facility and pitching coach). Even with i'm being a finalist for the UNO job i'm not sure that it will put enough pressure to get those things done. From what I hear many SU alumni are not too happy with Lefleur as athletic director. With a few more years left in his coaching career I do believe Cador would be a great AD for the Jaguar Nation. Then it would be interested to see who he hired as his replacement as head baseball coach.

Different situation. SU has more to offer than jSU in baseball and its a lateral move. UNO just had some rich guy die and leave their athletic department 50 million. He was a huge baseball fan, and I think most goes to the baseball program. Plus UNO paid their last coach $188,000, while Cador makes $95,000 @ SU.

I still think it's a move to get what he wants at SU. I would venture to say Roger Cador is a SWAC baseball coaching legend, and his career will begin and end at SU as a coach without a stop at UNO for more money.
As much as he put into Southern baseball going down the interstate to UNO is too much like starting all over for him.

I agree, if he was a few years younger, then I would really be sweating bullets, but I don't think he really wants to rebuild another program at such a late point in his career. Besides, we need to him to be the next AD when we get rid of, I mean when Lafleur steps down.

Latest.

Cador, 743-399-1 at Southern, would not comment on his interview with UNO, according to Jaguars spokesman Kevin Manns. But sources close to the situation said Cador would be interested in the UNO position because it would mean a significant pay upgrade, plus he has concerns about significant state-mandated cuts in the Jaguars' athletic budget, which included letting a pitching coach position go unfilled.

Why Cador should take the UNO job.

1. He stays in the same retirement system, in three years his retirement would reflect the UNO salary increase.
2. Better facilities.
3. No more Tony Clayton.
4. Increase salary.
5. He has done all he can at SU.
6. No more SU politics.

I only disagree with #5. SU has plenty of potential yet to be tapped. As for politics.... show me the college campus and I'll show you the politics. That retirement salary bump is a significant reason to leave though.

That means that after 2003 - he won 12 of 19 Swac Championships. He's had a helluva run even B4 we somewhat put interest in baseball as did PV.
